1. What happens IC stays IC -- If our characters had a tiff ICly, then it was between them. Please don't hold any OOC grudges with me because you disagree with something that happened while we RPed...

2. Please only post for the following reasons -- You're a GM dropping off an announcement/update/growth, you wish to drop off an RP compilation we'd done that I hadn't yet posted (I promise you I appreciate this a lot), you wish to drop off a gift. Any other reason, please PM me first.

3. Don't air your dirty laundry in the journal -- Even if our characters are sworn enemies, please don't have them come in to leave death threats or trash Karma's duplex uninvited. If you don't have MY clearance, at least have GM clearance to do it. Likewise, if we've had an OOC arguement that you feel will severely impact your ability to finish an RP with me, please just tell me so and we'll wrap it up quickly. I don't want RPs degenerating into passive-aggressive digs at each other.

4. Please turn off your sig if at all possible -- Not required, but it just keeps everything neater :3

5. When in doubt, PM me first -- Just what it says

Katherine lived a typical life of a North American kid growing up in the 80's. My Little Ponies were her bread and He-Man was her butter. Day-Glo clothes were still considered awesome and you weren't cool unless you owned an obnoxiously-colorful friendship bracelet and a lunchbox with Rainbow Brite on it. She was a happy child who showed an aptitude for writing and nature at a young age.

As the blues of adolescence set in and the magic of childhood faded, Katherine tried to remain optimistic, though the teasing of her classmates as they established their pecking order was often unbearable. The happy child faded into a gloomy teenager with few friends and fewer ambitions. She would remain this way up until the end of Middle School.

High School, it turned out, was much kinder to her and she regained some of her lost happiness as well as her nickname. Karma was fitting for her as it seemed that her ex-lovers and friends both had a habit for falling upon ill times shortly after jilting her. Though it was never through any fault of her own, some of her friends would joke that she was jinxed.

After graduation, Karma and her friends went their separate ways. They, off to universities and jobs, she attempting to make her way in a retail job and community college due to her family's limited funds. After a falling-out with her manager, she and her job parted ways. The time that was once spent at work was spent, instead, on the internet which provided her with all she needed -- entertainment, enlightenment, and a way to stay easily in touch with her friends.

While she was perfectly content to live her days this way, her parents concluded that her reason for shutting herself in her room for hours on end and deciding that a computer made for adequate interaction was because she had become depressed and possibly-suicidal. Occasionally they would question her about it, only for her to tell them that she was perfectly fine. Add denial to their list of self-diagnosed problems.

It was through a friend at work that her father had heard of a place that dealt specifically in troubled youths -- an island resort in the middle of nowhere that offered counselling, job training, and schooling for malcontent young adults with no direction in life. Apparantly it had rave reviews backing it from parents and children alike who had mended bridges that were previously thought to be burnt beyond repair. To him and his wife, it seemed ideal and they made the arrangements without Karma's knowledge.

It was quite the traumatic experience when a complete stranger appeared in Karma's room early one morning, flanked by her parents, and ordered her to get dressed. Frightened, she complied and was soon bundled into a van and driven to an airstrip where she was then flown far from all that was familiar and to an obscure tropical paradise.

The illusion of Moreau's Island being a troubled youth camp remained intact for a week or so before being torn down by meeting a few of the other inhabitants and discovering that they weren't there for counselling at all. They seemed, in fact, to be warping in strange and hideous ways. A few weeks later, she would recieve the injection that would trigger the first phase of her own transformation and she would realize that this wasn't some sort of horrible joke at all.

This was her life now, and she was never going to see what she had once called home again...

  • Name: Katherine Aislynn DeFeo
  • Preferred Name: Karma
  • Gender: Female
  • Born: May 10th, 1983
  • Birthplace: Lexington, Kentucky
  • Sign: Taurus
  • Zodiac: The Boar

  • Height: 5'3
  • Weight: 133 lbs
  • Eye Color: Crimson
  • Skin: Cafe Au Lait (beneath her fur)
  • Hair: Black
  • Ethnicity: half-Spanish (father's side)

  • Serum Used: Procyon Lotor (Common Raccoon)
  • Progression: 75%
  • Mutations: N/A
  • Complications With Transformation: N/A
  • Disorder(s): Diagnosed in the labs following her suicide attempt as suffering from depression and possibly Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. She is now being medicated for both.

  • Marital Status: Single
  • Sexuality: Straight
  • Children: N/A
  • Former Occupation: Temporarily a store clerk. Was unemployed when taken to the Island.

  • Appearance: The third transformation has left Karma looking more raccoon-like than ever. Her nose and mouth have shed all remnants of their human appearance and have pulled into a rudimentary muzzle. Her skin is now completely hidden by a chocolate-colored pelt, and her fingers have elongated into the articulate spidery grasp of her serum's animal. The only features that betray her original body are her eyes, the black mane of hair, and the slightly curvy build of her body.

  • Personality: Karma was very uneasy and skittish when first brought to the island, making a shut-in of herself and coming across as awkward and overly-emotional to those she met. After her "episode" which resulted in several months' confinement in the laboratory, she's mellowed out quite a bit. She's still a bit uneasy around strangers, but has more or less come to terms with the idea she is never leaving the island or turning back into a human. Overall, she's more pleasant to be around these days. Some aspects of her serum have begun to kick in, making her compulsive about washing food before she eats it, and sometimes annoyingly inquisitive about new things. She also has a weakness for shiny objects and tends to gather small colorful trinkets during her travels, no matter how worthless. Her pockets at any given time can be found to contain foil wrappings, lustrous seashells, shiny rocks, or even lost jewelry. If asked, she could not tell you WHY she does it, she just can't help it.

  • Likes: Reading, writing, video games, comedy movies, Weird Al Yankovic, chocolate, Pepsi, shiny things, sleeping late, Stephen King's books

  • Dislikes: Being harrassed, people who are jerks for the sake of being jerks, loud repetative noises, complete silence, hot muggy weather, romance novels, anything mint

Sean "The Dude" Carroll -- One of the first truly-friendly presenses Karma met on the island. He seemed a bit skittish around her, as though she reminded him of someone he'd rather forget, though it didn't repel him from comforting her and trying to help her gain a better understanding of what was happening to them all on the island. She has not seen him for quite awhile now.

Vasile DeRossi -- Someone Karma met in passing and, consequentially, allowed to take her to bed, hoping it would relieve some stress and loneliness. While friendly and a charmer, she couldn't get past the charisma and fame he carried with him and felt insignificant in his presense. She's not seen him since that night and assumes he's found better people to associate with.

Lauren Granger -- Thorn lived in a duplex upstairs from Karma's and, on one occasion, they walked to the cafeteria together. That's really all and Karma doesn't feel one way or the other about her otherwise.

Dr. Moreau & Staff -- Karma went through a phase where she wasn't sure who she hated more -- her family for getting her into this fix in the first place, or Moreau & Company for shamelessly abducting her and altering her. However, if it weren't for the combined efforts of Moreau and his people, she might never have recovered from her "episode" and been able to progress beyond it. The counselling she recieved in her time of mental weakness has helped to endear her to them somewhat, but she is still quite confused as to whether they're good or bad people.

When Karma arrived on the island, she recieved a standard welcome package containing a few items to make her stay a bit more comfortable. These items included a scented bath set, a box of gourmet chocolates, a sand castle-making pail, a pocket PC, some sunscreen, a stationary kit, and a fitted swimsuit

Moreau later dropped off a present in the form of a shiny silver iPod, meant to appeal to the raccoon in Karma. It had, at first, contained a selection of pop songs and obscure internet groups, but Karma put in a request for the music to be switched over to a selection of various Weird Al and Oldies hits.

While under observation in the labs, there was not much else to do while being evaluated, recieving counselling and being medicated except to read. She requested a plethora of Stephen King's works which were delivered one at a time as she finished them. They came back to her duplex with her when she was released.

Karma's duplex follows the same formatting as all of the others, complete with a double bed, complete bathroom, wardrobe, windows, and a mini-fridge.

The only features that really mark it as belonging to her are her clothing and the scattering of things she has acquired during her stay on the island. The top of her wardrobe and dresser are likewise accumulating a collection of shiny shells and stones that she has collected during her walks outside and arranged where she can look at them whenever she likes.

Her bed is often unmade as she is a restless sleeper and she has a bad habit of stashing food from the cafeteria in her minifridge to save for later and then forget entirely about until it becomes stale and inedible.

She does not live in squalor, however, and makes it a point to clean her duplex at least once a week to keep the mess from getting out of hand. All in all, it works rather well. A visitor might find her quarters a little unkempt, but far from disgusting.

Raccoons are nocturnal mammals in the genus Procyon of the Procyonidae family. They are unusual for their thumbs, which (though not opposable) enable them to open many closed containers (such as garbage cans) and doors. They are intelligent omnivores with a reputation for being clever and mischievous. Raccoons range from 50 to 100 cm in length (including the tail) and weigh between 4.5 and 16 kg. The raccoon's tail ranges from 20 to 40 cm in length. Male raccoons are generally larger than females.

There are three species of raccoon. The most widespread is the Common Raccoon (P. lotor), which has a natural range of North America, and has been introduced to Continental Europe. Raccoons can live in the city or in the wild, but are not normally kept as pets but it is not entirely uncommon to hear of a pet raccoon.

The two rarer species are the Tres Marias Raccoon (P. insularis), native to the Caribbean, and the Crab-eating Raccoon (P. cancrivorus) of the tropics. The word "raccoon" is derived from the Algonquian word aroughcoune, "he who scratches with his hands." The genus name, Procyon, comes from the Greek for "pre-dog"; this term is also used for the star Procyon.

Some raccoons once considered separate species are now thought to be the same as or subspecies of the common raccoon, including the Barbados raccoon (P. gloveraleni), Nassau raccoon (P. maynardi), Guadeloupe raccoon (P. minor), and Cozumel Island raccoon (P. pygmaeus).

In many languages, the raccoon is named for its characteristic dousing behavior. Waschbär in German, orsetto lavatore in Italian, єнот in Ukrainian, vaskebjørn in Danish and Norwegian, tvättbjörn in Swedish, szop in Polish, mýval in Czech, wasbeer in Dutch, pesukarhu in Finnish, araiguma (洗熊) in Japanese, huànxióng (浣熊) in Chinese, all mean "washing bear." In French the common raccoon is called raton laveur or "little washing rat"; the Linnaean binomial is Procyon lotor or, roughly, "washing pre-dog." In Russian they are called "enot". In many Russian stories they are bandits, because the markings on their face look like the mask that robbers wear. Raccoons are often colloquially called "clever bandits" because of the markings on their faces (see photo).

All raccoons are nocturnal and omnivorous, eating berries, insects, eggs and small animals. Raccoons sometimes wash, or douse, their food in water before eating it. It is unknown why raccoons perform dousing, but cleaning food is unlikely to be the reason. Studies have found that raccoons engage in dousing motions when water is unavailable; researchers note that captive raccoons are more likely than wild raccoons to douse food. It has been suggested that captive raccoons are mimicking fishing and shellfish-foraging behaviors. It may also be that the raccoon is searching for unwanted material, as water is thought to heighten their sense of touch.

As city dwellers in the United States and Canada increasingly move into primary or second homes in former rural areas, raccoons are often considered pests because they forage in trash receptacles or eat dog food left on back porches. Raccoons also pose a serious risk to any household pet within their vicinity, it is not uncommon at all for a raccoon to eat, kill or seriously injure cats and small dogs.

The raccoon has also adapted well to city life, and in cities such as Toronto the raccoon is, after the grey squirrel, the most common urban pest. Introduced into Germany in the 19th century, raccoons seeking food in wine cellars and storage areas have become a threat to the country's wine industry. Beginning in April 1934 raccoons, which were being commercially farmed in Germany for their then-fashionable fur, were experimentally released into the wild [1] in the Kellerwald range. Population growth greatly accelerated in 1945 when disruption of the infrastructure led to numerous raccoons escaping from farms across Germany.

Because they seemed to have minimal impact on forest ecology, raccoons were a protected species. Lately, however, the population density in some regions may have reached 100 raccoons per square kilometer and hunters have been offered rewards to cull the animals

Raccoons can carry Baylisascaris roundworm, canine distemper, parvovirus and rabies. Of the 6,844 documented rabies cases reported in the United States in 2004, 37.5% were in raccoons
