Guild Questions

On Profiles
Do profiles have to be sent to Rhia-chan or a mod?

No, they don't. Just post your profile in the correct profile thread. Rhia will go and preview it later and PM you if there are any problems with it, along with any of the other mods.

Race Questions

On Fingerprints
Do Vampires/Angels/Demons/Lycans/Slayers leave fingerprints at all?

Slayers obviously would, being human. The rest would only leave muddled prints that wouldn't be recognizable by any system, as they're not human.

On Hybrids
Are we allowed to create hybrid characters?

It depends on the case, but in almost every single situation, the answer shall be no. This is not a game for hybrids and more than enough races are given to choose from. As of this moment, there is only one hybrid character in the guild and it is an important NPC. If you feel that you absolutely need a hybrid for whatever reason, PM me and we'll talk about it.

On Leaders
Are the leaders of each race the only ones in the world?

Not at all. The Alpha, Elders, and ect are only the leaders of Los Angeles. There are other leaders for the races in major cities across the world and have various methods of keeping in contact with each other. Each race also has its own unique governing body, such as the Council for the vampires, that watch over the leaders. All of these types of governing bodies live within the old country, Europe, and will rarely be seen within the roleplay.

On Base Instinct
What exactly is "base instinct"?

This phrase only applies to vampires and lycanthropes.

Base instinct refers to the lower aspect of character that resides within the blood, for vampires, and the DNA, for lycanthropes. It is the basic need to feed that activates upon starvation or near death. Once activated, the base instinct seeks to protect the body by consuming the nearest nutrients or destroying the threat. Strength is boosted, though mental acuity is severely depleted, leaving only a simple beast. It can also be set off by intense emotions or great pain and is largely situation-dependent.

Lycanthrope Questions

On Being Changed
In what way are humans turned into lycanthropes?

There are two methods of turning a human into a werewolf, one far more prevalent than the other.

Saliva: The normal and widely used method is a direct bite from a lycanthrope in wolf form. The teeth must puncture the skin and allow the saliva to enter the bloodstream of the human. Once insinuated, the saliva changes the DNA of the human into its new morphology in a rather painful process. This creates a new werewolf that is entirely their own, though still subservient to its creator.

Blood Fusion: This method is a combination of the previous one and having the human directly drink the blood of the creator. A process such as this is far more painful because of the direct and forceful insinuation of the saliva and blood in tandem. The human becomes a werewolf of the exact same type and color as the original, barring any scarring. This is only done for the creation of a descendant to carry on a familial line, such as a specific Alpha gene. Transformation by saliva, however, still creates Alpha genes, but more generalized ones.

On Genetic Lines
What about a child born from a lycan? Are they automatically lycans?

Yes, they are. But there are a few circumstances that have to be understood.

Female lycanthropes cannot have children, or it is incredibly hard. Because of the necessity of changing during the full moon or at some point during the three trimesters, all lycanthrope pregnancies would usually result in miscarriage.

Thus, most children of lycanthropes only have a lycanthrope father. But this does help them.

They change at the normal age of eighteen. Starting off, they have complete control over their wolf form and are never overcome by hunger blackouts. Furthermore, they are naturally stronger than their parentage. Through enough lines of lycanthropes, some child descendant will naturally become an Alpha of their own right, even without the blood in their veins. At a certain power level, the wolf body creates the Alpha strength genes and the ability to lead a pack.

On Transformations
Do lycans turn back into humans when they die?

No, they don't. The form a lycan dies in is their permanent form. This means that they will stay as a wolf if they die like this. The reason for this occurrence is because transforming between wolf and human form takes physical effort and mental power from the individual. With the individual being dead, there is no way for the body to utilize any energy to change back into the human form. Because of this problem, all lycan bodies are to be burned upon death, so no detection is found by humans or the Slayers.

On Shifting
Do lycans shred their clothes when they change or what?

This is a difficult question that i've really wrestled with time and again. It can really go either way, but, after careful consideration, I decided to opt our of the shredding of clothes option. It makes roleplay much harder than it should be and, in some ways, make it hard to roleplay at all and keep the roleplay at a clean level.

So, I decided to go with the melding option, one that is kept up in some werewolf lore, in which the clothing becomes a part of the body as the fur grows out from it. This makes changing of clothes unnecessary and saves a lot of difficulties.

On Panting/Sweating
How do lycans deal with overheating? Do they pant like dogs do?

Yes, they pant as a way of getting rid of excess heat, but they also sweat. Since lycanthropes were initially human, they bring with them the ability to sweat when in wolf form. This is actually more efficient, for it creates a dual method of expending heat. Of course, sweating makes wolf fur sticky and matted, but it's just something they have to deal with. Good hygiene in lycanthrope culture is largely tied to the sheen of their coat while in wolf form, so it is a good idea to have someone brush them out every once in a while.

Vampire Questions

On the Sun
Can vampires go out in the sun or do they just burn up?

Actually, vampires can, if only for a limited amount of time. The idea that vampires turn instantly to ashes with the touch of the sun is a myth that has been found out to the regret of many mortals. The actual effects of the sun is on the skin and what the UV radiation does to it.

Because of the skin's composition while being undead, much different from being alive or dead, there is a heightened weakness to UV radiation. In essence, the radiation eats up the skin at five times the normal rate, leading to fast dehydration and other sun-related effects. For vampires, this means that the supply of blood that they have stored within their body evaporates with the sun's rays, which is the main reason that they die.

Though this does mean that vampires can be in the sun for a few hours if protected well by clothing, preferably black, and for just over an hour if they are unprotected.

This is also the main reason why most vampires sleep in coffins, because this gives them greater resistance against any UV radiation leaking through windows or some from through walls.

On Scents
Do Vampires leave behind any particular scent?

Besides that of blood, of course. Vampires are somewhat dead, so after a certain amount of time they wouldn't have much left to rot and smell...

On Blood
What is Vampire blood, and how does it affect the body?

Vampire blood is a virus that infects and assimilates the blood of the victim, taking over the bloodstream and using the victim's red blood cells to produce more Vampire cells. The victim's physiology also changes, the stomach and intestines are minimized in favor for the liver, lungs, muscles, and bone structure.
Vampire blood is nearly sentient, it has its own needs, instincts, and behavior patterns. As time passes, the host is further and further taken over by the virus, until his or her instincts, needs, and, to some extent, behavior echoes that of the virus completely.

During infection, it has been noticed that resisting the transformation can cause pain for the victim. If the victim is relaxed during the transformation, controlling their heart rate and breathing, adrenaline is not produced by the heart and the Vampire blood can assume control with more ease. There will always be the natural uncomfortable sensations that come when a host's heart ceases, but much pain can be avoided during the process by not resisting.

Why Blood
Why do Vampires need to drink blood?

Vampire Blood is also carnivorous in nature. Once a host is fully possessed -a transformation that uses the host's own organs as fuel- the Vampire cells begin in a non-stop craving for more blood, more fuel, which the host must supply. If the victim goes for too long without a fresh supply of blood, the Vampire cells will begin to break down organ tissues and muscle tissues for energy, eventually causing death.

Blood also contributes to how a Vampire grows in strength. Certain races will provide immediate strength and power without any long-term effects, humans on the other hand provide a 'compound' power, small remnants of energy that are left behind meal after meal, year after year. Combined with the slow total takeover of the Vampire blood, this buildup of energy is what causes Vampires to grow stronger over time, giving them new abilities and allowing them to sire and control more Vampires.

Effects of:
Animal blood: Animal blood is the most basic requirement for life. Nothing fancy, no strength is gained, no other effect than to stave off hunger a little longer.
Human blood: Human blood is the basic, and perhaps common, sustenance for Vampires. Plentiful in number they are slow, stupid, and easy to kill. Each human contains a little bit of energy, how much energy depends on their age willpower.
The young, the healthy, strong of will, and the innocent are the strongest meal for a Vampire in the human department. They have the most energy to offer, and possess a rather pleasant palate...
Lycan blood: Most Vampires would agree, Lycan blood is an acquired taste. Once fed, the Vampire can last for a long period of time without feeding again, although the blood provides little more in the ways of strength or power than human blood does.
Vampire blood: Varies from Vampire to Vampire, due to the diet of said Vampire and how well they take care of their self. Blood accepts blood, although it is easier to share between those of the same family or those who have previously shared blood than complete strangers. It provides more nutrition and power than Human blood, but the effects are temporary and hunger returns quickly.
Angel blood: The holy properties of Angel blood have always combated with the very nature of Vampires. Angel blood provides strength, but little nutrition, barely more than the average human.
Demon blood: The most exotic of the races, it is said that no two demons will ever taste alike. Whether or not this is true, Demon blood has always had the strongest effect of all the races. However, coming down from Demon blood is fast and dangerous. Within a few moments a Vampire can go from calm and collected, to ravenous and dangerous.

Vampire Bites
What happens when Vampires bite other races besides humans?

When Vampire blood is introduced into a non-human body -Lycan, Angel, or Demon- it immediately attempts to take control of the body, allowing it to start the turning process. When the blood can not assume control of the body and unsuccessful in turning the host, it reverts to its carnivorous nature and will essentially devour the host from the inside out, until either it gains the upper hand and take over is possible, or the host dies. The process in this case is extremely painful, as what little control the blood has will go towards weakening the host body's defenses.
*Cutting off airways, physical immobilization, et cetera.

The Lycan body has natural defenses against Vampire blood, to the extent that it is unheard of for a Lycan to be turned into a Vampire, even in the unlikely chance that he survives the transfer.
The holy properties of Angel blood would prove a challenge for Vampire blood, and it is unlikely that a complete takeover would ever be possible. Otherwise, turning would affect the Angel much the same as it would affect a human, the only major hurdle would be bringing the Angel to death.
Demons, on the other hand, are something completely inhuman. Their physiology varies totaly from race to race, and in the case of shape-shifters can change completely. For the same reason that one does not encounter Vampire cats, dogs, and birds, it is extremely rare for a Demon to be turned successfully into a Vampire. The Vampire virus was meant to handle the human body -the more inhuman, the less likely a successful transformation is possible.

Vampire Families
What is the usual size of a Vampire Family? How do Vampire families work?

Traditional Vampire Families range anywhere from two to ten Vampires, large families are considered to be fifteen 'children' or greater.

The conditions within a Vampire family vary between them. Physical freedom, mental freedom, feeding restraints and requirements, everything is determined by the 'parent' Vampire. The older the parent Vampire, the stronger his or her control over the children. This can include physical control over actions, control over thoughts, control over abilities (shapeshifting, psychic, etc.) and state of sleep or wakefulness.
The age of the Vampire, the quality of blood the Vampire has ingested in the past or present, the number of children the Vampire has, and the number of children that rely on the Vampire's power all have to do with the Vampire's control over the children.

Demon Questions

On Possessions
What are demons abilities in terms of possessing mortals?

It depends on the type of possession being done. There are several types: Full, Partial, and Overshadowing.

For a full possession, a demon will take full control of a mortal and force back their consciousness. This allows the demon to do anything with the body at all, including forcing it to commit suicide. This form of possessions can only be sustained for a short time, half an hour at the most. If a mortal with an abnormally strong will is possessed, then it is possible for the mortal to force out the demon.

A partial possession is quite different. Most of the time this form of possession is mutual between the possessor and the possessed. A demon control the muscles and extremities, giving the possessed mortal incredible strength and power. The demon is also able to speed up the mortal's thinking capabilities, making them essentially more able to react to attacks by deciding actions in a split-second. There are some instances in which this possession is not mutual and it is most likely that the demon will then be weakening the mortal and making their thinking muddled. This usually leads to the death of the mortal.

Overshadowing is when a demon merely inserts their presence over a mortal. The idea is shown through the mortal idea of a angel on one shoulder and a demon on the other. This is an exactly true statement, for the demon will whisper thoughts to the mortal, giving them ideas that are usually evil and things that they would normally never do. The mortal, most of the time, does not know about the demon overshadowing them.
