And no, instruments of destruction do not count. =P
Couple of reasons I ask:
1) I play an instrument 2) I want to get a demographic of who else does 3) This place needs to be more active--this subforum would be awesome if people would post in it.
Mostly I just want to know what you play and, if at all possible, the reason you decided to learn it. If you want to, share how long you've been playing it.
I'll even start. =P
I've played the drums--my time with them lasted about five minutes at my friends house.
I've played the guitar. I played it for about a year, tried to play a Slayer song and quit.
I currently play the bass. I've played this instrument off and on for about four years. However, I've only recently picked it up again after a year long break. The reason I chose the bass, and I tell this to all who ask, is because I hate the sound of an electric guitar and I can't sing well enough to do anything else. =P
So, what about you?

I bought an ocarina at a Rennaisance Fair, but I can't play it sad
The instruments I can play are:
guitar - electric bass clarinet flute trombone tuba melophone/french horn oboe baritone trumpet
and there's probably a few I forgot, but those are the main ones. Everything but the bass and guitar were learned in band in high school. The guitar I taught myself, but I suck and don't play anymore. The bass I'm taking lessons for and some day I'll be good.

Flute for me...
I've been playing since before my arms could reach the full length of the instrument [started with a curved head joint, hah] but took a couples years' breaks whenever we moved. I picked it up in high school again, but spring term senior year, I was like, "Forget that." My teacher's methods of "encouragement" were basically yelling at me about how much I suck and could be better and how all my potential is squandered because the flute isn't the focal point of my life. When it got to the point where our "flute ensemble" pieces were divided into "favorites get the good parts, unfavorites/newbies get the two-note parts" I bailed.
Instruments are good for you, but...I guess I'm picky.
