The dead of the night brought silence to the thick snow covered forest. High above the skeletons of trees was the full moon, its light casing down an eerie blue glow against the fresh layer of powdered snow. Nothing made a noise except the occasional gust of wind, the bare limbs of trees shaking just enough to drop their burdens of snow to the earth. All was peaceful, at least until the silence was broken once more. A horse came running from a distance, its hooves pounding rapidly against the frozen earth. Mounted upon the horse was a man desperate clinging onto the reigns. He could do nothing but hold on and listen to the loud breathing of the mare; he was pushing the girl to her limits and knew it. "Steady girl... "He whispered, praying silently that they would make it back to town alive.
It all started as a test. He had to prove himself ready to take the title of Shaman, but what it turned into was a challenge for his life. He had made one of the biggest mistakes. He let his guard down. Rewind back to the moment when the man's eyes bore straight into the heated eyes of a white wolf. The animal was tense, its head lowered as it was ready for any chance to attack. The man could not make any mistakes; he had to tame the wolf with his magic. However the startled whinny of his horse just beyond the bushes caused the man to gasp in shock. And there it was. His gravest mistake, his attention turned from the danger at hand to the well being of his horse and the wolf took that chance to attack!
Lunging forward, the wolf bared its fangs and would release a bone chilling snarl from its throat. Canines plunged deep, ripping the man's flesh. The beast surely enjoyed the gush of blood that entered its mouth. The man screamed in pain, cursing himself for being so stupid. He could do nothing but raise his staff and desperately beat the animal off his person. With a yelp the animal gave one final tug to rip away the appendage. Satisfied it began to feast upon the man's flesh, the man in question throwing down his staff as he ran for his life.
A whistle into the air alerted his mare that he was approaching. He was lucky, had he just escaped with his life? He at least told himself that as he hoisted himself up over the back of his horse. He wasn't far from town and if he could stop the stub of his arm left from bleeding he could survive. Though the lone howl coming from behind him made his blood turn cold, and he wasted no time in kicking his horse into a gallop. "Run fast!" He cried out, listening as wolves in the distance answered the call. And almost instantly we're brought back to the present.
The horse had run for what felt like hours to the man, but was nothing more than minutes. He had yet to stop his blood and was already fearing the worse. His fate was sealed; he wouldn't make it. At this rate not only would he fall prey to the wolves, so would his beloved mare. "This will not do.." He whispered to the mare, trying to focus on its face though darkness had already begun to steal away his vision. His body became a shivering shell as the blood that kept his body alive continued to betray him and escape into the air, leaving a thick scent. He knew the wolves were following, hearing their cries behind them.
"I cannot bring this fate to you as well my friend." He muttered, the mare far too beautiful to allow the gruesome death the wolves would no doubt deliver. Gently he rose his hand to pet her, running his fingers through her mane. "Thank you for everything..." Leaning forward he pressed a small chaste kiss to her neck, "Spirits, please protect her." He pleaded silently before using what little strength he had to brace himself as he fell to the snowy ground.
Feeling the weight vanish from her back, the mare immediately stopped by rearing up and neighing. Quickly the animal circled back to it's master. Pleading neighs were accompanied by gentle nudges of her nose to urge the man up to once more mount her. However the man refused each attempt, gently pushing that nose away from him. "I'm sorry my friend.." The man whispered as he stared up at the horse, raising his hand to gently brush it against her face leaving a smear of blood upon her white coat. "I cannot make it... You must go." With a hitch of his breath the man stood up once more and guided the horse to face the direction of home. "Run my precious, and never stop." Raising his hand he gave a sturdy whack to her rear and sent her galloping off into the night. He knew he would never see the mare again, tears welling in his eyes. "Goodbye." His best friend took her escape and the man turned to face his destiny.
There only feet away from him stood the wolf that had attacked him, the animal having blood smeared across its face. "Didn't have enough?" The man chuckled dejectedly, staggering in his spot. His head was beginning to spin and he wanted nothing more than to sleep his eternal sleep. The wolf however had other plans, throwing it's head back and letting out a howl that sent a shiver down the man's spine. It was a sound so haunting that he could have almost died of fright. Before he knew it, dozens of eyes reflecting the moon light circled around him. The pack. "So I am to be outnumbered..." He spoke to the wolf, looking the animal dead in the eyes once more. His response was a low growl as the wolf advanced, pressing its ears tightly against its head. "I'm not out yet..." He warned. The wolf had won the battle but who would win this war?
With a bark the wolf lunged, plunging its fangs once again into his flesh. The man never cried out in pain, though it was tough biting back the scream his throat begged to give out. "Our fates... Have.. Been decided..." He choked out, his only arm wrapping around the shoulders of the wolf. "Spirits I pray to thee, bind us so we shall live in harmony!" The man screamed, and not a moment later a warm light grew around them. Steadily it grew brighter, turning night into day. Fearful of what was before them, the pack whined as they retreated back into the bushes for cover. The light would burst fading away to expose the haunting truth. They were gone. No one ever saw flesh nor fur of them again...
Until...
Hands raised up to the light of the full moon, the village Shaman smiling to herself. "Come." She whispered, and there between her raised hands formed a ball of light. It grew, stretching to the shape of a child as she lowered it to her arms. "You have passed child." She said lightly, passing the child to another woman.
A necklace was removed from her cloak, hanging from the leather string was two items. A tuft of and a carving from bone. It was placed around his neck as the woman continued. "When it is time, they will return to you. Until then grow strong for the trials that await you."
The woman that held the boy cradled him in her arms, speaking in a gentle voice as to not wake the baby. "I think I'll call him Waya."

When Waya first arrived at my home, he had a rucksack filled with several objects and a few possessions already on his person, which he later explained to me. Here's the bunch of them, and how he described them (though hesitantly, as he takes his time with words):
He brought along two bracelets that were given to him by Cubi from Orphne's house. They seem to be what he cherishes most. Waya wears each on his left arm and likes that they compliment his pendant so well. I think he's turning into some kind of druid. X3
A special pendant and plush toy given to Waya with a note from Xaria and Cheshire. <3 He wears the necklace all day (even to bed) and sometimes in the shower!
A pretty fan with wolf ears (he pointed this out insistantly) from Kamtrouble.
A cute bumblebee toy that he likes to pretend with. From Lucifer Force.
A pair of toys from Kimiko. Waya chews on the sheep when he's bored. X3
A thick black teddy that with a tag on it labeled "To: Waya, From: Buffynick and Bowen." Whenever Waya holds the bear he rocks back and forth pretending to fly, whispering "Galador" under his breath.
This is one of his most precious possessions. It was from his previous guardian, Cubi, a good friend of mine, and he is always excited to see her again. <3
And here are the things Waya has acquired since I've adopted him:
These cute little plushies were all that I had when Waya first arrived at my home. I didn't want him to feel unwelcome, so I let him have them. Originally, they were a trivial bunch of things I purchased to decorate a bare shelf, but never got around to setting them out. He likes their soft textures though.
When we went on our shopping trip, I was finally able to get Waya something a little more custom. A wolf plush! I think he like it lots. He likes to tote it around with him now and probably sees it as a miniature likeness of himself. Or something. X3;
Saturn and Karan sent us a cute little Christmas box! Waya and I wonder what is inside...
More mystery gifts... Waya tells me that the peaches look so good that he's had trouble not sinking his teeth into their "juicey bodies." Such a wolf. X3
Raven left this strange crystal for Waya at the HQ. Neither of is sure what it does, but it's curious nonetheless. It sits on the family mantle in the mean time.
An adorable gift from Prana! With so many pets and dolls accumulating, We set out to the store once again and got a little tank for the frog as well, set next to the Koi. Waya feeds them all religiously.
