The Palomino mare stopped cold as her ears grew erect on the top of her head. It was quiet, and normally, it wouldnt be this quiet. She shook her head, letting her mane fall around her shoulders. She took another step, hoping to shake the feeling of unease from herself. After a minute of deliberation, she sighed, and laid down in the green grass that crunched under her feet. All was well.

"A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, but the ring of lyricism would be dead, gone, and replaced by something that fills the heart with less joy." Humming along to himself, the vibrant red stallion strolled through the green meadow grass. It was a gorgeous day, bright and sunny; and the sunlight glinted magnificantly off of his glossy red coat and deep black roses. In fact, he seriously doubted he could ever look better than he did in full sunlight!
However, he wasn't the only thing that shimmered in the sun. As he tossed his head, a gleam of gold caught one of the stallion's eyes. For a moment he glanced that way, curious as to what it was and whether or not it could possibly be worth going out of his way...before finally concluding that yes, it was indeed possible. After all, all that glitters had that potential to be interesting! Consequently, he changed his direction and sauntered up to what he could now tell was a mare. Better and better!
"Good day to you, my dear lady! Lovely day to be out in the meadow, wouldn't you say?"

Esperanza lifted her head from the lush of green which she had been dining previously. She finished chewing, and swallowed with a bit of a blush. The stallion had caught her off guard. She offered a friendly smile, and met his eyes with her own chocolate ones. He was the most beautiful shade of red, and her eyes were shiny. "Why hello there, Sir. Good day to you as well. Tis a lovely day indeed." She said, glad to find someone who she could maybe hold a conversation with.

As the mare raised her head and looked at him, Guilian's smile widened even more. Obviously his instincts had steered him the right direction, for here was a truly dazzling speciman of femininity. That golden hair, those captivating eyes...yes, it definitely was a lovely day!
Sauntering up to where she was nesting, Guilian swept Esperanza a low bow, a few black rose petals falling from the flowers in his mane to the grass below. "And seeing as how it is such a lovely day, it seems hardly surprising to see another out enjoying this weather. What brings you out to this meadow today, if I may be so bold as to inquire?"

Esperanza gave a bit of a blush. Letting her creme cheeks turn the slightest shade of pink. She shook her head. What would Tai think of this stallion? He would probably be shocked. She giggled a bit, and gave Gullien the horse form of a curtsey. She stood back up, and looked at the black petals falling from his brightly colored mane. "It was just so lovely, I had to be out here." She said with a smile. "Might I inquire about your name?"

Better and better; she was a polite mare! Well, that actually wasn't the best of things for a guy like him...but hey, at least she wasn't cursing him out for glancing her way!
Sweeping back his mane with one wing, Guilian adjusted the shedding rose with the ease of much practice. "My apologies if you're allergic to roses; these things just don't know how to behave!" Giving Esperanza a smoothly apologetic smile, the red stallion nodded an agreement to her comment about it being a lovely day, adding his own view on that sucject. "You obviously share my feelings on enjoying weather such as this; if there were more with this attitude, I imagine that the fields would be very crowded on warm days like today!" Chuckling, he finally addressed her last comment, bowing his head yet again. "And I'm called Guilian; what name do you go by, if I may ask?"

She gave a lopsided smile. The smile she gave when she felt she had found a friend. She offered him a giggle, and picked one of the fallen roses up with her teeth, and tried placing it back in his mane. "Oh quite the contrary, I love roses. They are most beautiful, and yours are no exception." She said, blinking, and admiring his wings. She stared for a bit and shook her head. How rude she was being! "My name is Esperanza.. Er, Esper for short.. At least, thats what my friends call me."

Smiling at Esperanza's efforts, Guilian lowered his head to ease the replacement of the rose among his red hair. This Esper certainly was quite the tease, wasn't she? The question was, did she realize it or was this charming behavior completely unintentional?
"Well, it's certainly a pleasure to know that my roses don't offend; it has been to my great misfortune in the past that others have been horribly allergic to my rose friends, and seeing as how I can't possibly get rid of them all..." As he spoke, he shook his tail gently to demonstrate the seemingly endless amount of flowers contained therein; as a result, what seemed like a cascade of loose petals showered delicately to the ground. "Indeed, one might go so far as to say that these flowers are a physical part of me! And for that reason especially, your compliment is very kind."
Flashing her a winning smile, Guilian acquiesced her introduction of herself with a low bow, chivalrously sweeping back one wing in a gesture of acknowledgement. "Well, tis a pleasure to meet you, fair golden one; since you have so kindly offered me a choice, I think that I'll take your kind offer of a "friend" name and call you Esper. As for myself, I'm called Guilian (Guil rhymes with tool and fool XD) by friends and foes alike. Or I imagine that I would be, as to my knowledge I have no foes..." And didn't want any!

Esperanza smiled. He was quite the charmer in his own right. She appreciated the attention, even if she was to be mated. She loved Tai, but she was sure he wouldnt mind her meeting more Stallion friends. As Guilian kept drawing attention to his roses, she couldnt help but keep her chocolate eyes trained on the mass of black in his mane, and the fallen petals that cascaded down his body from both mane and tail.
"Well Mr.Guilian. It is quite a pleasure to meet you. I daresay I have met very few with your vocabulary, or your most fabulous peculiar coloring. I do hope I shall see more of you. See, you remind me quite alot of my poor past brother. I shall hope that you would like to be friends." She said, offering him another smile.

"Well, vocabulary skills are something that I've been working on cultivating ever since I was a foal, so it gladdens my heart to know that they're of interest to you, and as for my coloring..." Glancing down at his coat with a self-depricating smile, Guilian preened a bit, nibbling at the glossy red hair at his shoulder. He did look fabulous, didn't he? So very red and intense...
But that wasn't something he should be thinking about right now; he might look fab, but he wasn't the only one that did! "Your brother, huh? Well, if he was like me he must have indeed been a great creature, indeed he must have. And I would frankly be honored to be your friend." After all, one could never have too many friends, right? "You seem to be a bright mare, appreciating speech as you do. Do you enjoy speech, Esper?"

She gave a smile, and spoke. "I adore the speech very much. Its just so seldom you find a stallion who knows their hoof from a hole in the ground. It has saddened me of late to not meet anyone I could hold an intelligent conversation with." When the talk turned of her brother, only a hint of sadness clouded her eyes. Her brother had died with her past herd, and he was indeed, a fabulous creature. She had been very depressed for years after that. "Yes. My brother was magnificent, I only wish you could have met him, I daresay you and he would have been great friends." She said, of her palomino brother.

"Well, not only do I know my hoof from a hole in the ground, I know my hoof IN a hole in the ground. Although I have to admit that such happenings aren't high on my list of priorities." Winking roughishly, Guilian raised one forehoof as he spoke, making a great deal of a show examing it. "Definitly not a hole in the ground, not by any measure. And I"m glad to know that my conversation is actually serving a purpose."
A purpose other than the usual purpose, anyway. However, Guilian's cheeriness didn't mean that he was oblivious to sadness; the instant he saw the grief in Esper's eyes he was giving her a one winged hug. "I'm sure that we would have gotten along magnificantly if he was even half as pleasant as you, Esper; but I daresay that he, being such a splendid thing, wouldn't want you to mourn him at the expense of your own life." Maybe he was taking a stab in the dark here, but he'd always felt that excessive mourning meant losing people besides the one being mourned. A vicious cycle, really.

Giving him a smile, as she gave into the winged hug. She closed her eyes and nodded as she remembered her brother. Maybe this horse could fill his spot as her brother, she hoped so. She was rather lost without him. She figured she'd ask, before she got too attatched. "Would you mind terribly if I considered you my brother? I understand if you do."

Crash and burn. One minute, things were looking extremely positive; the mare was certainly a friendly and accomodating creature, after all, and she was definitly giving him hints of approval...and then she was asking if he would be her brother. Lovely; a wet fish upside the head might have been easier on both Guilian's pride and his libido. Mares weren't supposed to lead you on if they weren't serious on sharing a little affection, after all!
Still, he hadn't gotten to where he was by being easy to read; indeed, he was the master of masking what his true feelings of disappointment were, when the situation warranted it...
And this one did.
"I'd be honored to be your brother, Chica; assuming that means that I get the enviable role of beating up any guys that hang around you of which I do not approve." His tone was as light-hearted as ever as he spoke; even one who knew him well would most likely be unable to guess how much he had felt rejected by her offer. But unlike some cassanovas, Guilian was honestly fond of all females; even those who rejected him!

Esperanza found herself happy, even if a tinge of tension did come into play for some reason she didnt know, but she didnt linger on it. She gave a soft smile. She really did like this stallion, but she refused to be unfaithful to Tai. Maybe him being her brother, would change the way she saw him now. She was not a mare to lust after anyone, but here she was, lusting. It had been awhile since she had seen Tai, and she just wanted to nuzzle him.
She gave him a nod, and nuzzled him kindly. "Yes, it would give you any brotherly rights you'd like." She said. She leaned into him, and rested against his body. "Oh dear, I do hope you do not find this too bold."
