 Hello, and welcome to Kamiki's personal webspace for her Shaoilin Wolf, Akui.
I received Akui by placing 3rd place in a roleplay contest. The contest was over custody of the lone wolf Nantauri, when the original owner decided she'd rather surrender Nantauri to someone who would have the time to roleplay him more. Vashyta won custody of Nan, while Zero Dream and I received pups as runner-ups. heart Thanks so much to JadeEye for that. She ran the contest and it was her decision to offer up the runner-up pups 3nodding
Please note that if you are interested in getting a pup of your own to visit the main thread for information on upcoming flatsales, raffles, auctions, or contests. Shaoilin Wolves are not RP required, and as such, never one should never PM a lone wolf owner asking for custody of their wolf.

To know about Akui, you have to first learn about his mother. Kakia was a large, strong, beautiful, and dominant female. Her fur was solid black, except for a few cowlicks of grey she called "wind kisses." When she was born, Nananii was already the alpha male of her pack.
Nananii would certainly be one of the most impressive wolves you would ever see. His fur was a dark forest shade of green. Dark enough that when he was hiding in the shadows be looked nothing more but a shadow himself, but when stood in the open sunlight, he sparkled like a emerald.
Nananii was strong, and became Alpha of his pack when he was barely a few seasons old. His first mate, Lulia, bore him many cubs. Most the daughters stayed in the pack, but most of his sons, who were impressive specimens themselves, left to find mates in other packs, hoping to assume dominance. Some of his sons even challenged Nananii himself, only to be quickly defeated.
Just as Nananii's fur on his face began to grey with age, and Kakia was just coming into her first season of pup-bearing, a group of fur-hunters ambushed the pack at their densite. There were many men who were all ultimately slaughtered by the pack of strong wolves, but not before the men took their tolls. Nananii survived, but Lulia did not. His only son remaining with the pack, who everyone believed would one day take Nananii's place, was also killed while protecting his mate.
It was not long after that Nananii took his next mate, Kakia. Kakia was young, but her power was undeniable. Even in his elder years, Nananii was strong. Several male wolves from other packs challenged him, and all failed. But Nananii knew he would not be around forever, but he was determined to have his processor be his own progeny. He became obsessed with fathering a male cub with Kakia: the son that would one day take his place.
However, Kakia was young, and Nananii was old…and unfortunately this combination led to a staggering mortality rate among Kakia's litters. Over the next few seasons, she managed to raise up one female, with all her other pups dying shortly after birth, or stillborn.
Not only was this worrisome for Nananii, it was heart-rending for Kakia. She wanted so much to give Nananii a son, and it was tearing her apart to see her children die. She grew weary and depressed, beginning to dread her heats: knowing each one would only lead to further disappointment.
One day, as she came into heat, she wandered into the woods, avoiding Nananii, knowing in her heart that their mating would only lead to more dying pups. While she was wandering in the woods, hunting for small game to keep herself occupied, she found herself nose-to-nose with a stranger wolf.
The wolf, obviously a lone wolf, stared her down, smelling her scent. He was thin, as most Loners are, but his gaze was startlingly intense. This slightly shaggy fur was midnight blue, and his eyes were highlighted in white.
Kakia never did explain the details of what happened next to Akui. Whether it was her aching heart for a son that made her so desperate, or her perhaps her judgment was clouded by her heat, or perhaps the lone wolf took her by force. Akui never knew for sure, but regardless how it happened, several weeks later Kakia gave birth to him.
It was unknown at first if the little black cub was the son of Nananii or the stranger, however the fact that the pup lived past its suckling age was a major indication. Denial or strong hope kept Kakia second guessing herself, however, and she raised her little Akui to be strong. She taught him how to hunt at an early age, and to be dominant, but friendly, when playing with other pups.
However, at a couple of months old, when the pup began to wander further away from the den each day, his new coat began to come in at the changing of the seasons. And with it, the markings. A bright blue, incredibly intense, pattern began to form across his eyes. With each day it became more visable, and Kakia was forced to finally admit that this child was not Nananii's son.
At first, Kakia tried to convince herself Nananii would never know the difference, but her rational mind quickly overcame. Wolves can tell a lot by smell, and any wolf who knew Nananii well could tell this pup was of no relation.
One spring day, Kakia took her son to a clearing on the fringes of her pack's territory. She sat him and told him everything. Her heart was heavy in her chest, but she knew she was ultimately saving her son. The moment Nananii found out Akui was not his child he would have ripped out his throat.
She looked into the eyes of son, trying to block out the overwhelming sadness brewing inside her, and told him he had to go.
"You are strong, Akui. You will find your place. It is just not here with me."
That was the last thing she ever said to him. She turned her back and headed back towards her home, never to see to son again.

Akui's closest friend in his new life is Nyx. While Akui has never met a human, he has only heard bad things about them. He feels sorry for Nyx, whose whole pack was slaughtered by the humans, and agreed not to join with the "human-loving" Nokota. They have decided that they shall look for a pack together, for they are both tired of being loners.
Akui's beautiful playmate, Monenoke. Akui is teaching Mone to be a better hunter and fisher, and she adores him for it. And he loves the attention.

Akui padded out into the meadow. Dusk was falling early now as the days got shorter and the winds grew colder. It had been several months since he left his original pack and wandered into the area he now called "home."
He was getting older, and as the winter grew closer, he felt the yearning for companionship grow stronger. He ruffled his black fur and put his nose to the wind, sniffing out other wolves in the area.

*Nyx had, for the most part until this point, retreated to the small den area that she considered safe. It was far from the warm, comforting den that she had lived in with her mother and siblings as a cub, and it had been far too long for her since she had been in the company of the other wolves she knew roamed the area. Stretching and crawling out of the den, she looked down at her now big paws, still silently amazed that she now was an adult herself. It seemed like just yesterday when the only wolves that seemed to roam these woods were cubs, hardly old enough to defend themselves if the need arose.... now... there were others like her, but hardly any older. Some followed the arrogant Notoka- the one who consorted with the monsters that had killed her family. They were fools she thought to herself as she followed after the scent of a young rabbit, and sooner or later it would come to bite them on the tail.
However.... she was lonely..... her disgust for his methods was not felt by the other wolves; even those who had had similar expierences blindly followed his leadership, and to her knowledge, none had stood against him.

Akui's nose caught wind another wolf in the area, a female, and quickly the scent of a rabbit. Most likely her prey, he thought. He moved silently in the general direction of the wolf, trying to a get a glimpse of how else was stirring in the early evening breezes.

*Nyx's nose alerted her that the rabbit was close, and she clung closer to the ground, her dark fur blending in well with the shadows of the dense foliage, her footfalls landing softly on the moist earth. She caught site of the small rabbit nibbling warily at the last tender grasses of early winter ahead of her, and she crouched, waiting for its attention to pass from her before dashing forward... when she caught another scent - another wolf, younger, and male. Her ears flicked back, not wanting this potential prey ruined by an inexpierenced hunter*

Akui's nose told him both the rabbit and the wolf were close, so he stayed put, being as silent as possible. His itention wasn't to interupt the hunt, so he hung back into the scent of the rabbit's blood filled the air.

*Nyx noted that whomever the scent belonged to was not moving, and thus was not trying to steal her quarry. The rabbit's head swiveled at the sound of a small bird hopping in the underbrush, and Nyx moved, quickly and silently - her jaws upon the rabbit's neck almost before it had time to turn; its dying squeal reached her ears as the gush of hot blood hit her palatte. She crouched over her meal, wolfing it down by gulps, her ears perked and eyes scouting the area for others*

Akui smelled the rabbit's blood and his stomach reminded him that he was hungry as well. But pushing that aside, he padded over towards the scent, not making any special precatiouns to hide his approach. He held his head and ears up, putting on a friendly, non-agressive posture.

*Nyx lifted her head at the newcomer's approach, her tail lashing back and forth warily, her eyes gripping him as he stepped out of the woods, a low growl under her breath*
