Its fiction, Simply because they have a basic concept, but to be able to measure all the ingrediants would be beyond painstaking, even if scientifically proven, you'd need a sealed lab, years and years to gather the items, drawing the perfect transmutation circle, amoung other things...sadly enough -.- me and my lil bro already went over this.

Actually, though the form of alchemy in FMA is fictional, Alchemy is a form of science. Transmutation, etc. is fictional, but the baisic concept, which is creating phenomenon with the right mix of ingredients (though in FMA those ingredients are often specific symbols), is an actual form of science.

Unfortunately, that kind of alchemy is fiction...too bad huh? however, alchemy does exist. Just not in the transmutation kind of way. it's more about turning certain things into better or stronger things. hmmm, then in a way I guess it's the same thing...the real world stuff isn't insantanious tho. it takes months or even years to take effect. Be kind of cool tho if it did exist like in the show huh?

Alchemy is a science. It is very possible to turn (what was it? umm) i dont remember what metal it was but--(oh iron i think) into gold. it would take a long time for each atom of iron to turn into gold but it is possible. If only transmutation was possible. that would be awesome^^

has anyone ever heard of electrolosys? Well, the basics of it is that you take a comon, low cost metal(like aluminum or copper or something like that) and put it in a chemical bath. Then using electricity, you can turn it into gold or silver. It takes about 6 hours to do it too.
