Nu-rock bands seem to be fellating thrash as of lately, some of it actually not bad. However, since they aren't metal, they can't kill metal.

Actually, scratch that, nothing can kill metal, you can't hurt a concept. It's just there. >.>

Music should be complex, and heavy metal should tend to it's roots. With all this new~age crap coming in, it is destroying the very best thing this world has to offer.

Metal.

xd Ah dear...*wipes tear from eye*

Sierro has a point, but you have to remember, concepts such as genre aren't eternal and immutable. Just as perceptions about the meaning of a word, for example, the cultural perception of what constitutes 'metal' retains a sense of plasticity. As the public at large begin to tag certain bands as 'metal', the idea of what metal is changes also. The sad fact is, the majority rules, and should 'nu metal' bands in the public's eye be seen as falling under the category of metal, then future generations will learn that to be the case. It's not so much that the kids who think Slipknot are "hardcur thrash/death metal" are especially stupid (although....), they're simply misinformed by the media, record labels, etc. When the culture becomes saturated with this notion, and they become the majority, what metal means for future generations changes also. The same way that some might classify Judas Priest or Black Sabbath's very early material as rock rather than metal (some of it was, indeed, but somewhere along the way the idea of what the music was changed).

Thats just my opinion, so I might be entirely wrong. All I know is that I know nothing. whee
