the only answer I can think of is because they prove that there is something beyond death.. because they are powerful, because they are not human, and therefore are different, and unknown..

Because I consider them to be truely like me and almost like the family I wish I had. (maybe because I'm also a Demon myself rolleyes Idk) I feel most at ease when I'm thinking about such things, like I could go into a trance and never want to wake up again (that probably didn't make sense but wth)
I also agree with Dearg-Dhul. Definitely powerful, proof to something beyond death, different, and unknown. I'm pretty sure they enjoy living in mystery, arousing the interest of us, and scaring all the poor townspeople. (Vampyre: ...boo. /people: OMG RUN! /Vampyre: *laugh* /Demon: *facepalm*)

Because fate has bestown upon them the dark gift of immortality at the high price that they must consume human blood to continue that immortality.
