Take it back to the store?

I have to ask, are there any Computer Wizards on this Guild? The reason I am asking on here is because I have spent so much money for a problem that is still existing and it is very, very frustrating, so I am seeking help. My computer continually gives me pop-ups, even though I've had the best of the best as far as Virus Controllers which happened to be the 2007 Norton Anti-Virus which cost me $50.00. I was ok for about a month and then it started doing the same type of thing; freezing, pop-ups, pop-ups and more pop-ups. I love to bump on Gaia and after the 2nd bump my computer acts as if its sleep and won't do anything so of course out of frustration I will turn the computer off, watch television, come back to the computer and the exact same thing happens all over again. This is making me so mad I just want to toss this computer but of course I won't because it is not even 2 years old. I would like for someone who knows about computers to pm and I can tell him or her exactly what is going on but I also would like suggestions from others as too what I should do besides toss it out the door blaugh .

Okay: how old is your computer, what operating system does it use, what programs do you have on it, how full is your harddrive...

Wow.... all the good questions. You know I probably could not answer all of that, most but not all.

Thanks for responding to me and this computer is not 2 years old yet, as far as the type of programs I have I have to ask you exactly what you are talking about. I have the same programs that came with this computer such as windows xp, internet explorer. I can tell you this much that I had this guy repair my computer because there were so many pop ups and when I did get my computer back (after having it for 2 months and removing things on it) it really hasn't worked right since.

Do you check for spyware often?

Free software, I recommend using both.

Spybot S&D
Adaware SE Personal

lunashock

It's a Dell Computer that I got about 1 1/2 years ago. Could you tell me how I could go into the memory of this computer because my niece has gone to quite a few different websites and that could possibly be my problem, I'm just looking for answers.

I did have spybot, but the guy who repaired my computer removed it because he said that it was not good.

Odds are that you've got a virus or a worm.
I'd suggest running over to the McAfee website and doing a free scan to see what it finds. Also, check and see if you've got any programs in your menu that you don't know what they are.

Of course, without being there I can't tell you exactly what it is. wink

If your machine is seriously infected, the only way to be sure to purge all the malware is a backup and clean install of the OS. I know it's a pain, but it will make the PC like it was when you bought it.

* BE SURE TO BACK UP DATA 1st *

Good luck!
