There are 78 cards in a tarot deck. Fifty-six of these are known as the minor arcana, twenty-two are known as the major arcana.

Each suit of the Minor Arcana has four court cards- King,Queen, Knight and Page.

The Major Arcana are numbered zero through twenty-one, starting with The Fool and ending with The World.

There are hundreds of different tarot decks from Lord of the Rings to Gummy Bear (both of which I have seen).

Each suit of the minor arcana has its own element; Wands-fire; Cups-water; Swords-air; Pentacles (or coins)-earth.

Each card (depending on deck) has two meanings, normal and reverse.

Tarot cards are fun, I'm in the middle still about whether or not I believe they work but I have a different sort of set of my own.

I knew most of this already; just not the specifics of each suit.

I'm waiting to begin to study tarot, I'm just waiting on my bag to get in from order, to season, bind, etc, etc..

I work with a clairvoyant that can read tarot cards. I haven't gotten too far in it, but I have been read by two other Clairvoyants that worked for us.

Just have to add this...

The Tarot was originally a cards and dice game. No one, to my knowledge, plays it anymore. It wasn't until several hundred years after its introduction that it began to be used for fortune-telling.

Of course, now I have to do more research on the actual game so I can post the info here. ^^ Fun!

As much as I dislike Tarot and other forms of fortune telling (most of it amounts to a scam), I do find the history of it mildly fascinating. I remember reading about how various fortune telling methods changed over time. It was really interesting. If only I can find where the hell I read it.

I agree there are a good number of scammers out there for this type of thing. However, it is an interesting thing in itself, especially if you can obtain your own deck and method of reading the cards. I have my own set, and I think it's a nice way to pass the time sometimes and see how the readings coincide with your life. I get pentacles in most of my readings which I find odd for me. xd

I've never been very interested in Tarot cards, though not for any particular reason. Actually, I don't know why! Now that I think on it, it all seems rather fascinating. (: Most of what you listed, I already knew -- facts like that are discussed reasonably commonly among a fair few of my friends.

Are you deep into Tarot? How did you get into it? I've always wondered how people begin an interest in occult... Or does Tarot count for occult? Please forgive me, I'm terribly ignorant.

Tarot cards in themselves have nothing to do with magic. You can use them in magic. You can get them in a metaphyical (pagan) shop, online, or at your local book store, such as Barnes & Noble or Books-a-Million.

I have......*thinks*....four or five decks, Universal Waite, Celtic Dragon, Bhudda, Tarot of the Dead, a Teen Deck, and some other crazy Golden Dawn scrying deck.

Tarot didn't originally come out as "black magic". It actually started out as a card game named Tarumph.
