Fables is one of my favourite comics.
From Wiki:
Fables is a Vertigo comic book series created and written by Bill Willingham. It takes place in a continuity of its own, and is unrelated to the larger DC Comics continuity. The series deals with various characters from fairy tales and folklore who have been forced out of their native lands by a mysterious enemy known as the Adversary. They travel to our world and form a clandestine community in New York City known as Fabletown. Characters from fables with non-human appearance must live at the "Farm" in upstate New York.

The Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense (the B.P.R.D. or BPRD) is a fictional organization in the Dark Horse Comics universe charged with protecting America and the world from the occult, paranormal and supernatural. It maintains and the services of several supernatural persons. It was originally featured in the Hellboy comics and has since been expanded in a series of comic miniseries and one-shots.

far left: Johann Kraus, a medium whose physical form was destroyed many years ago, he now resides in that current form which is a suit to hold his essence, he is a psychic and can temporarily create forms for the dead to speak to the living.
Mid-left: Liz Sherman, a firestarter since the age of 11 until she burned her family and the entire neighborhood to a chrisp she was a regular girl, she was then transported to a mental insitute and traveled around a lot due to her abnormal abilities until she was picked up by the organization BPRD and helped out, she frequently leaves the organization due to being mentally unstable.
Middle:Abe Sapien: he was found in a laboratory and no one knows where he came from, he is a fishlike creature who appears to live forever. [recently they found out some background information in a comic book, he was a man who was the decendant of merchants and sailors and further back pirates, he had a lot of money and built a large house on the edge of the ocean and married a woman; one day he went out to sea and never returned, his wife committed suicide after waiting for 2 years].
Mid-Right: Roger, A homunculus made from human blood and herbs, he was brought back to life by a spark from Liz's supernatural powers and now is a member of BRPD, he is the most advanced of his series of homunculus out of a 6 set series developed by a scientist. He recently died again and we are awaiting his revival.
Right: Dr. Kate Korrigan, former graduate at New York University, she has been an occult specialist for B.P.R.D. for over 10 years now and is now the liason for the special-enhanced task force [all of the above].
Hellboy: spawned during WWII by the third reich, the plan was to use him to fullfill Hitlers goals but the Allied Forces intercepted the mission and he was raised on the side of good, since then he has been fighting the forces of darkness and the things that go bump in the night while trying to discover were he is from.. note: he is from Hell, his father is the son of Lucifer. Hellboy has for a long time not been in the BPRD comics nor had his own comic, he is currently trapped at the bottom of the ocean.

VCmnky LOL I'm the only one who voted for "Comics are for Kids" Meh', most comics now arent for children, infact I would be confused if I saw a kid reading them... the older ones like Superman, Batman, Spiderman can be read by kids.. so can X-Men and many of the old Marvel and DC comics, new comics from companies like Image, Dark Horse, Virgin Comics, and Wild Storm are not for kids, they have graphic violence, sex, murder, sometimes blood, exposing scenes, adult situations, adult dialogue that a kid wouldnt be able to comprehend [X-Men and Spider-man sometimes have adult situation and dialogue], especially series like B.P.R.D., Spawn, Witchblade, Hellboy, Hellgate, etc..
I think people really need to get over the idea that comics are a childrens outlet, they are quickly becoming for adults only, with only the original icons remaining for children and young teens [as idols].

I make a webcomic for fun. It's here if you want to read it: http://evilish.pensandtales.comMy favorite superhero comic is Batman. My favorite manga is Et Cetera (it's so awesome with great balance of comedy, action, and drama... but so underappreciated that local stores don't even carry it anymore because people besides me don't buy it).

If any of you followed the Infinity Crisis / Civil War (DC and Marvel are both doing the same basic thing, bringing many series together to tie timelines firmly in place) series then the assumption that even those old standard heroes are for kids even goes away, murder, blood, and political intrigue, these are some of my favourite things, hehe. Icon Comics is doing probably one of my favourite comics to date, The Walking Dead, the whole series is great, and I'm steadily buying the trade paperbacks. (G4 TV got me into the series about a week ago) Definately NOT for kids, though you have my permission to show your little brother the *axe to the face* scenes just to see their reactions heh. And then of course I'm a huge Green Lantern fanboy, which is explainable, he (the rest of the corps too) rawks. That is all

When I was five I was reading Ogre Slayer, Lum Chan's Freakshow, and Pixy Junket. I really can't read comics now because like most cartoons they become really transparent and boring.
