You can read the Quran from anywhere you want. If you are going to read the arabic read it for memorization purposes. If you don't know the meanings make sure you get translations after you memorize a surat, and memorize the translation.
Also I was listening to this scholar one time. He said that there is no need to do wudu when reading the Quran. Muslims hands are always clean! If you however do need to do wudu provide me a strong hadith or Quran verse to support your point. If you can't find it then you will see that doing wudu before reading the Quran is pointless.
[56:77] Most surely it is an honored Quran,
[56:78] In a book that is protected
[56:79] None shall touch it yamussuhu save the purified ones.
Yeah, you don't HAVE to do wudu to read Quran. HOWEVER, that doesn't mean that one shouldn't bother to do it at ALL. Putting oneself in a state of purity and covering oneself are signs of RESPECT to the Quran, to the word of Allah. Reading it with dirty hands and messy clothes are kind of like how you would pick up just any book and read. If anything, it's only disliked to treat the Quran like that.
Also, if you think about it, in Salaat, we are reciting Quran the whole time, and we HAVE to be in wudu and must be covered and nicely dressed. Why not when actually reading the Quran, too, which is also a form of worship?
If anything, we shouldn't try to break the myth of YOUMUSTDOWUDUBEFOREQURANREADING, but try to keep it going. It makes us get into a good habit of practicing it.
