This is a thread for strange, but true facts. You find one that isn't in a post some where in the thread, feel free to post it and enlighten us. ^-^
And please if you alerady knew something that someone posted don't be rude about it, someone else might not have known.
Some strange facts i have found:
-There are no clocks in Las Vegas gambling casinos
-A violin contains about 70 separate pieces of wood
-Slugs have 4 noses
-The average American/Canadian drinks about 600 sodas a year
-The fear of vegetables is called Lachanophobia
Have a strange fact? Post it here.
Have a comment such as 'I'm drink above/below the average of sodas per year.' or 'I don't live in America/Canada, so I don't know the average' Tell us, you could start up a conversation with someone.
Just please don't insult anyone.
Also don't just post, comment and discuss, it makes things more interesting. Not a rule but a request from someone who likes to talk. XD
Strange laws are fine too. We all might get a good laugh out of them.

Since when was there 70 pieces of wood on a violin? Where was this information found? =D I'd like some background info on it, as I do play that particular instrument.

Midnight Lace Since when was there 70 pieces of wood on a violin? Where was this information found? =D I'd like some background info on it, as I do play that particular instrument.
On a side note, I do love your little song in your siggy. Nightmare before Christmas, si? heart Yes, Nightmare Before Christmas. I love the movie. I saw it in 3D yeasterday (I live on the east coast, so it's 1am here). I'll get that information for you. I think it meant that it was was made of 70 pieces of wood all put together but I'll get the website. Here it is: It's almost at the bottom of the page, fifth from bottom.I'll work on getting back up information.

okay I guess this isn't really a strange fact, but it's a funny law.
I believe this was recalled by now, but throughout the 90's in California there was a law that stated if you are caught detonating a nuclear device in the city of Chico you will be charged a fine of 500 or more.
This is so dumb, because even if you were to do such a thing, do you really think you would live through it in order for the police to catch you and fine you 500+ dollars?

I agree, I mean, would you even live threw it? Would the police even live threw it?
Midnight Lace- It was is fun to mock their voices. My mom told me to make sure I didn't sing during the movie, so I mouthed the words instead. I was all, 'must not add voice' gonk

Erm...
In Japan it's good manners to refuse something you very much want multiple times before accepting it... I don't know if that's very well known or not.
When you sneeze it's supposed to mean someone is talking about you behind your back (be it good or bad).
Some antique wooden flutes were made with ball of string in place of the cork... yeah. I wouldn't really call these strange though. Hmm... something strange in fact form...
The word stewardess is the longest word that you type with your right hand and lollipop is the longest you type with your left. That's a fun one. ~shrugs~
On the note of Nightmare Before Christmas, my favorite song from that is "What's This" and I'm making an AMV to "This is Halloween."
... an AMV that I will not get done in time, no sir. I guess I'll have to post it next year. Just as well, I need more anime for it anyway.
EDIT: At first I said lollipop was the longest word you type with your left hand... my lack of coherency frightens me right now. eek
