So, they're testing it out in Denver before it goes to Broadway. My mom said we'll definitely go see it when it gets here.
Any thoughts on this new stage adaptation?

I am definitely excited for this, making me wish more than a little bit that I were living in Denver. I think that the person that was picked to play Ariel was Kerry Butler, which makes me happy because I think that she has a great voice (especially in Batboy: The Musical).

I've heard the demos... it sounds TERRIBLE! Kerry Butler has a nice voice but she is to nasal for Ariel.
Also, I have a friend who has a friend that is IN it and even the girl in it is like, "What the hell is this s**t?" Apparently there are lots of scrims with bubble gobos and people doing flips with wire working that looks NOTHING like swimming.
I have very low expectations.

I think that its a great idea. Hopefully they'll work out any kinks in the show. I love the music in the movie. I'm sure that it will be a sucess in the future.

There are rumors going around for the casting of Ariel. Apparently, someone who is playing Christine in the Las Vegas version of Phantom has been offered the role, but has not agreed as of yet. An article about thisI'm going to try youtubing her to see if I can hear her voice, but since I'm going to go see Phantom in March, I might hear her then.

Mostly anyone I think would be better then Kerry Bulter. Ugh, those demos. They hurt!

One of the alumni from my college is assistant designer for the set. It's going to be made out of sculpted glass, at least for the underwater part.

Sierra Boggess Confirmed as ArielWe can all breathe a little sigh of relief that Kerry Butler will not be playing the part. Granted, it's not certain of what Sierra Boggess' voice is like, but she did originate Christine in Vegas, so it should at least be clear and not that nasal-ness that came from the demos.

Well, we've got tickets for August. I don't know much about Sierra, but, as stated above, at least it's not Kerry Butler.
I'm hoping it's not quite the flop that Tarzan was. I don't exactly see how it could translate to stage (when there's movies like Hunchback of Notre Dame and Sleeping Beauty that are, I think, much better suited), but I guess we'll see.

Here's an interesting tidbit: Sherie Renee Scott will be playing Ursula! When I think about it, she's probably a good choice for the part and will make the character very new.
Also, Norm Lewis, who is currently playing Javert in the Les Mis revival, is King Triton. That's probably also a good thing.
