This morning, whilst looking through a local magazine I found out that my city also has a 'gay district' (I was suprised enough to find my dump of a city has an arts district). I knew that there was an alternative nightclub there, but prior to the nightclub opening a few years back that area was a dump of gangs, prostitutes, and drug dealers. My parents had always avoided that area of town because of all the violence and crap associated with the area, so we never knew that it was cleaned up. Apparently they have a pride festival thingy there every year (maybe I'll go this years festival). I didn't know that that district of my city exisited.
Last night I found out that my town has a GBLTQ youth (err... teen) group that meets every week, and holds a yearly prom. Also my school has a lagrely unadvertised GBLTQ group (I saw a flyer in the nurses office the other day... I'm just wondering why it's so low profile... all the other school clubs everyone knows about)

I dunno... I guess then knowledge that my city is a bit more open than I had come to believe made me kinda happy.

I wish my town had something like that, but it's so completely sheltered, it's like living in a chruch.

I'm in houston, texas, and I'm pretty sure there isn't some sort of all gay neighborhood. There is montrose, which is a street that is pretty much gay stores, clubs, bars, restaurants, etc, but the gay things gon't stop at the that they, they branch out a litttle. I suppose the neighborhoods around montrose may be what you were thinking when you said gay neighborhood?

Well, my school has a G.L.A.S.S. club. I think they downplay it because everybody hates people they don't understand. Everybody stereotypes (see?) It's like when a friend of mine told that she was thinking of killing herself. Everybody laughed. She told us this for two years straight.

Still, she was met with 'get it over with then' remarks and rude 'shut up and die already' comments. Then we found her in her room. She had gotten home from school, slit her wrists, and died after many hours, which she used to type out an explanation and a plea to make sure we all educated ourselves on the matter and tried to see where she was at.

No body laughs anymore in my group. The GLASS club and the GLOBE club didn't have any recognition until the prepies decided it was 'in' to have a bisexual or homosexual friend. We don't really have a gay neighborhood as, like i said, a lot of people can't open their dumb minds and accept what they can't wrap their dense skulls around.

In conclusion: it's all because people suck ^_^

I wonder why a "gay district" should be a good thing. It sounds like locking away the people to not have to watch them. I would be much more happy if people wouldn't treat us like something special, like something that needs to be put away so noone might get "infected". I consider gay districts to be the most perverted things there can be...

Yea...i never knew my school had a GSA cause no one ever held meetings...when i did find out tho, my friends and I brought it back. We had the German teacher run it cause he came out to the school at the beginning of last year...and yea. Everyone was cool with it, so why not. We had a lot of people join just because he was the supervisor

The town I am located in is too small and based upon conservitist bastards. That, and the majority is the elderly, which of course looks down on anything different. It's pathetic here. Let me out!!!!! cry
