I know a lot of people here read books involving our beliefs, other peoples beliefs, and the likes. So instead of having a ton of individual threads I thought it would be best to just have a sticky on it. That way we won't have to go searching around the guild and we can keep a record of books that might give you some help if you happen to be searching for a specific topic or just want a good Christian book to read smile If you find a good book, fiction or nonfiction, please post it here. It'd be nice to give everybody a little reference. Reviews on the books also welcome. 3nodding

Soooo starting us off I'll post a book I'm reading now, as well as a book I just finished. Er...in reverse order though heh. What I Wish My Christian Friends Knew about Judaism is an interesting book, giving you an outlook on the Jewish community. It's a pretty basic book meant for people who just want to know the main traditions and teachings of Judaism. I know quite a few people in here may be curious with Judaism and the likes so I would suggest reading this book for a basic background. Straight & Narrow is a book I'm currently reading. I'm not very far in it (once I finish it I think I'll review it again) but it is a book debating one of the major issues in America today: homosexuality. Note: if you read this book you should probably read it with an open mind. If your mind is strongly set on one opinion this is probably not the kind of book for you. I can't very well say if it is opposing or supporting homosexuality because I feel the way the author is speaking in it he takes in the point of view of everyone. I won't know the book's position til I'm done. It is, however, very well referenced. So, good read indeed. But we can not forget the most important book to read about our faith: THE BIBLE. xd

those are good. There are a bunch of books i like- ex.
The Case for Christ and The Case for Faith.
These books go into the search done by an atheist who set out to disprove Christ but in the ended- he confirmed it as well as became a Christian himself.

I don't know many atheists who would admit they're wrong after searching for proof against only to come up with nothing eek

Update on Straight and Narrow: This is a book pointing out some "flaws" per se in the homosexual community. It notes how the Bible looks at it, revisionist theories, it relies heavily on one other writer's opinion (the other writer is revisionist/pro-gay from what I can tell), medical statistics, just generally looks at how homosexuality affects the world. I don't know that final message on whether it is anti-bible or not (a few chapters left til I'm done) but I believe this book is more about opening the views on what homosexuality means to society today. Pretty much saying "we say no because the Bible 'tells' us to, but here are some reasons for people to look more at their stance on homosexuality if they don't go with what the bible says," if that makes sense. If someone else reads it and would post an opinion, that'd be great. Good (though long and tricky to comprehend sometimes) read.

~JesusFreak_90~ Soul sista by Beth Redman She wrote two of these books, one called 'How to be a girl of God' and the other called 'The truth shall set you free' The aim of these is to encourage, inform and equip young Christins today, and they have really opened my eyes to the things around me. Give them a try You won't want to put them down! Thanks for the reading material! Kissed the Girls and Made Them CryThis is an excellent book by Lisa Bevere about the temptations and downfalls of sexual immorality. It's very heartfelt and full of her personal experiences while explaining how we are intented to be living sacrifices for God. It talks about how He wants us to wait before "awakening our love" and goes on to illustrate many Bible verses in ways that will truly grab your heart. Everytime I read more from this book I cry. It's just touching and is a good spiritual booster. Whether you're a girl or boy this book is a good read. Specially for anyone battling with sexual sin or thinking that they should continue to sin because they already defiled the gift from God. It's amazing and you won't be disappointed.

"Mere Christianity" by C.S. Lewis is an awesome book and should be required reading for all christians. I suggest anything else by Lewis namely "The Great Divorce" which is an allegory about Heavon and Hell. Also, "Soul Survivor" by Phillip Yancey and "Orthodoxy" by G.K. Chesterton are quite good. Now, these are more books on theology and christian living if you want something more like a novel I would suggest anything by Endo Shusaku.

When God Doesn't Answer Your Prayer This touching novel by Jerry Sittser really pushed me to think more about prayer and what it really is. Sometimes hard to swallow, this book touches key ingredients to our prayer, what God does with it, and how we view our prayers. With such concepts as why we pray, how we pray, how prayers may be answered, and the heartwrenching truth that when we pray desperately we are setting ourselves up for disappointment, this book is a must for anyone who is struggling with prayers. Sittser, being a man who has gone through heartbreak at the loss of three loved ones, knows all about desperate prayer and how depressing matters can become which makes this book something of a comfort to know that the author knows just how badly you are seeking the answer you want to the prayer you're sending up to the Big Man Upstairs. A nice thing about this book is that it's great for groups too. There are conversation questions at the end of each chapter, allowing you to try and apply what he talks about to your own life and really see the works of prayer in your life, even when you don't realize that a prayer was, indeed, answered. So whether it be for a bible study you're a part of or just reading for yourself because you're questioning prayer, this is a good book for the praying person. (NOTE: The author also goes by Gerald L. Sittser in some of his publications as well as has some books "remade" per se with different titles so finding some of his books may be harder than usual.)

Theres this series of books called Key Stone Stables. The first book of the series is called Trouble With Skye. This book is about a girl named Skye who has been moving from foster home to foster home all of her life. She is into drugs, alchohol, and has done many bad things over her life. Then one day she was just about to be sent to this place called Chesterfeild Detention Center when another family took her in. They were different from all of the other foster homes that Skye had been to because they are Christians who really love and care for Skye and they want her to become a Christian. It is a very good series!
Another book is called: Little Pilgrims Progress. It is a story about a little boy becoming a Christian and following Gods path to get to Heaven. But the authoer changed it into a story so young kids could under stand it.

Well...I know I haven't been around lately (Sorry Matt for not doing too well as a mod lately gonk ) BUT! I have some new books I've been reading that I think some of you might enjoy. Babylon Rising - Tim Lahaye I'm on the third book now and so far it's a very fast-paced, exciting pageturner worth a read. It's a fiction about a biblical archeologist who keeps getting clues from an annonymous person on how to find things that could prove the Bible is true and that God is real. But there's an evil force trying to stop the truth from spreading by using him to find the artifacts so they can destroy them. "The Seven" as they're called are trying to take over the world. If you've ever read Left Behind it's sorta like that. They're trying to create a one-world religion, currency, and all this in the end would be the end of the world. Very interesting read for those who are fans of Lahaye. Also The Wounded Spirit - Frank Peretti It's about bullying and how it wounds our spirits. It's an incredibly personal account on the teasing he received as a child over his "disability" and how the teasing can batter and bruise you for life. It goes into such depths as the Columbine Tragedy, morals (and how they can disprove evolution in the sense that scientists want us to think of it as), looking into ourselves to stop the bullying in us and to help stop it around us. Got me to cry a few times. If you've been harassed at school or work this is a good read to start a healing process. Another book by Frank Peretti is Hangman's Curse I have the second book with me too but I haven't started it yet. These are basically a set of mystery books about a family with a strong Christian spirit who are hired to go around solving mysteries in the country. This first book took me by surprise more than once. Mysterious incidents are happening at the high school and everyone wants to blame a ghost "controlled" by a certain group of kids. But when someone who "shouldn't have been attacked" comes down with the sudden symptoms of being hit by the ghost the family has to figure out what's REALLY causing all the students to get sick. Creepy to the core at times, if you have certain phobias it might be a good idea to read this during the day (I won't say which phobias but after finishing the book I woke up fast 4 times a night for a week thinking of the things in the book attacking me).
