armageddon smile
After viewing the other thread and seeing so many artists that we considered overrated / overpaid / overpriced, I wanted to make another thread dedicated to just the opposite. To keep this fair, try to pick excellent unknown artists. On Deviant Art, I'd prefer them to have LESS than 100k page views. If they have more, oh well. Share anyway I suppose.
At least try to keep with the theme!
Now, here we go! Agree, or disagree, but add your own!
I present my first choice to you:
Adnagaporp!Beautiful traditional paintings, intense style, gorgeous color. Ignore the fact that the person looks like Jeffery Starr, if Jeffery Starr were actually somewhat attractive.
How could I forget the lovely
Fenol?Strange drawings, interesting colorations, intriguing concepts. More people should see Fenol's art!
And one of my long time personal favorites:
Furgur!Monsters! Adventure! Terror! Danger! Joy! His art is so very simplistic in some ways, and at the same time thought provoking and complex. He should write children's books, as far as I'm concerned!
well damn
i posted a whole big response/rebuttal and then firefox crashed.
adnagaporp:
not traditional, actually, only real media. although the colour is good, the artist relies on it too heavily because they seem to have only a fairly slim grasp of composition. also, on a personal level the content is uninteresting.
fenol:
this is interesting. definitely some cool technique going on, and an interesting combination of what looks like classical training and what could either be personal style or awkward tentativity, or maybe both.
as illustration, it's sound.
furgur:
meh.
basically his brushwork isn't tight enough for almost anything he's doing. some of the landscapes and architectural stuff have promise but, again, sloppy, fuzzy brushwork make it unengaging (PS, i should know when that's a problem, because i have the same problem in real life). also, his human figures are frankly off-putting and meh.
on to new people, though:
http://dreamcatcheuse.deviantart.com/this young lady looks like she'll probably pick up a lot of people fairly fast, but she's pretty new, and i think definitely has some promise of talent, and a style that is permissibly cute, as opposed to opressively, or whatever. content is not always perfect, but there are a lot of things in there i enjoy a lot and i'm glad she posts photographs.
http://stoantje.deviantart.com/this is odd, and not for everyone.
strange things done in ink and charcoal, mostly, it looks like- i keep meaning to ask him to size everything down, because the thumbnails are frankly gorgeous, but the images are so huge you can't take anything in, really.
http://troutfishing.deviantart.com/one of a long list of favourite secret people. good combination of individual style, illustrative approach, and the coloured things are gorgeous.
http://sadidas.deviantart.com/i don't know, does 40,000+ hits disqualify someone from underration?
either way, this person is way cool. i love love love the figures, textures, and repetition of themes throughout the gallery.
PS
http://enymy.deviantart.com/this guy is a friend of mine in real lifes
his style might be a little odd, to some, but basically it's great, and he is a cool guy.
