After viewing the other thread and seeing so many artists that we considered overrated / overpaid / overpriced, I wanted to make another thread dedicated to just the opposite. To keep this fair, try to pick excellent unknown artists. On Deviant Art, I'd prefer them to have LESS than 100k page views. If they have more, oh well. Share anyway I suppose.

At least try to keep with the theme!

Now, here we go! Agree, or disagree, but add your own!

I present my first choice to you: Adnagaporp!
Beautiful traditional media, intense style, gorgeous color. Ignore the fact that the person looks like Jeffery Starr, if Jeffery Starr were actually somewhat attractive.

How could I forget the lovely Fenol?
Strange drawings, interesting colorations, intriguing concepts. More people should see Fenol's art!

And one of my long time personal favorites: Furgur!
Monsters! Adventure! Terror! Danger! Joy! His art is so very simplistic in some ways, and at the same time thought provoking and complex. He should write children's books, as far as I'm concerned!

well damn
i posted a whole big response/rebuttal and then firefox crashed.

adnagaporp:
not traditional, actually, only real media. although the colour is good, the artist relies on it too heavily because they seem to have only a fairly slim grasp of composition. also, on a personal level the content is uninteresting.

fenol:
this is interesting. definitely some cool technique going on, and an interesting combination of what looks like classical training and what could either be personal style or awkward tentativity, or maybe both.
as illustration, it's sound.

furgur:
meh.
basically his brushwork isn't tight enough for almost anything he's doing. some of the landscapes and architectural stuff have promise but, again, sloppy, fuzzy brushwork make it unengaging (PS, i should know when that's a problem, because i have the same problem in real life). also, his human figures are frankly off-putting and meh.

on to new people, though:
http://dreamcatcheuse.deviantart.com/
this young lady looks like she'll probably pick up a lot of people fairly fast, but she's pretty new, and i think definitely has some promise of talent, and a style that is permissibly cute, as opposed to opressively, or whatever. content is not always perfect, but there are a lot of things in there i enjoy a lot and i'm glad she posts photographs.

http://stoantje.deviantart.com/
this is odd, and not for everyone.
strange things done in ink and charcoal, mostly, it looks like- i keep meaning to ask him to size everything down, because the thumbnails are frankly gorgeous, but the images are so huge you can't take anything in, really.

http://troutfishing.deviantart.com/
one of a long list of favourite secret people. good combination of individual style, illustrative approach, and the coloured things are gorgeous.

http://sadidas.deviantart.com/
i don't know, does 40,000+ hits disqualify someone from underration?
either way, this person is way cool. i love love love the figures, textures, and repetition of themes throughout the gallery.

PS

this guy is a friend of mine in real lifes
his style might be a little odd, to some, but basically it's great, and he is a cool guy.

Omg Somebody here knows Kris/CCE

snapple!

http://monavx.deviantart.com/ : lettering fiend and his illustration capabilities are above top notch.

http://iononemillion.deviantart.com/ :Friend of mine, with rather fine skills and rather inspiring concepts and practice (and the man keeps it varied which is actually hard).... if the Nutcase would update his page more often...check out his sketch thread on SatSoda for fresher work http://www.satellitesoda.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1720

http://sausage-of-joy.deviantart.com/ :'nother Sodyite, the man has a whimsical style but what really sells his work is the way he renders, brushwork is dope

My bro - THIS NAME IS QUITE SMART

I honestly feel outclassed artistically by his work, and yet I'm the one making money. Not that it's anyone's fault but his own, he's really crap at promotion, can't maintain a webpage etc. But still I see his work is full of a type of energy that I just can't pull off.

Love his style so much. He's a street artist, which I tend to enjoy more then most art. surprised

Claudio Donato! An amazing artist. check check check it out! His more traditional pieces are nice, but I'm completely in love with his stencils and use of colour.

Fumi Minnie Nakamura. Her art is amazinggg. Her incorporation of animals completes the pieces with a whimsical feeling. Her polaroids are pretty too.

http://lilykane.deviantart.com/ and http://rdsullivan.deviantart.com/ .

Lilykane's coloring, and the meaning behind her pics are what makes em great. She's got almost simplistic coloring, but it's perfect for the mood of her art.

And Rosie, my god, I don't think I've ever seen someone do so much in ShiPainter. Her oekaki's are so smooth, and the textures are flawless.

i dont know how under appreciated they are, but i know no one has any idea who they are here.

Milo Manara and Hugo Pratt are amoung my favorite European comic artists. Infact, i was really rather impressed with the comic/graphic novel scene whilest i was in france. They have got some really amazing stuff. I plan on going back and buying all the books that i couldn't fit into my suitcase the first time.

Anyway, official sites for each:

Pratt - http://www.cortomaltese.com
His website really wont do him justice, you'd probably be better off doing an image search for both these guys actually

Manara - http://www.milomanara.it
I can see fewer people agreeing with me on this one, he's an erotica artist and does alot of girly work...but really nice girly work. If you read the 10th anniversary Sandman book Endless Nights, he did Desire's story. I just really like the way he draws flesh.

Pratt's probably my favorite artist though. His sketches and watercolors are just so loose and cool. I get really nostaligic looking at them.

I also like Juillard.

You don't know who francis is because you don't sit next to him in class, but I think someday everyone will know who he is. They won't know he's a really friendly guy though.

Okay so definitely not underrated but still.. I'm always in awe of ShardGlass's work.

Not sure if he counts but Mead Schaeffer's pretty damn nifty, even if he is dead.
Can't say he was underrated or underpaid, but nobody really remembers him.
Just wish I could find one of the paintings from my Illustration History text book.

EDIT:
and because any publicity is good publicity, i think I'm a little underrated.

Hey~ I remember Rdsullivan. I've seen her on some Oekaki boards. Definitely underrated.

I also think Hehe-m is underrated. I kind of adore her whimsical and colorful style.
