I figured this might be fun to try, but if it violates any rules, go ahead and lock and delete or whatever.
---

So, I figured, despite my being full of myself, it might be fun to have everyone guess what sex I am, and why.

For those who know what sex I am, vote what you thought I was before I told you.

Please post the following things when you vote(all are optional):
- Why this is such a dumb topic blaugh
- Why you think/thought I was said sex
- Debate the difference between sex and gender
- Happy late thanksgiving, canuks!

Have fun.

You are aware that sex and gender are too completely different, unrelated things, are you not? Well, consider yourself informed:

Sex refers to one's genetic make-up. It's XX, XY, XXY, etc. That's all.

Gender is an entirely cultural construction. Everything that makes one "male" or "female" other than the X and Y chromosomes fits under this catagory. It is the way these factors are interpreted and represented by society and (in response to society's constructions) by the individual for itself.

Please decide which one you are interested in asking for, and try again.

So flamboyant.

Anyway, only after reading that five times, did I get a semblance of what you were saying, although sex and gender are synonyms in my dictionary...
(You know, Webster's ever-so-famous one)

But I changed it to sex anyway, even though I know this conversation will probably predominate the thread about the difference between sex and gender. xp

OK! I think your a guy because you....I dunno, but it's just a hunch. Anyway. This is NOT a dumb topic because no one really knows who's behind the screen. IM A DUDE! Anyway, and sex and gender, I know this. I read my dad's psycology book and it said that sex is what you've got (p***s or a v****a) and gender is sex you imagine yourself as. I imagine myself as my avatar ^_^ *is psycho*

Psychology always over-analyzed everything, I thought.

-shudder-

Anyway, while I'm able to edit my post, each time I do the poll deletes itself... Stupid glitchy thing... -stays away from editing post-

Anyway, only after reading that five times, did I get a semblance of what you were saying,

After rereading what I wrote -- several times -- I have to say that it was actually pretty damn clear. You have, however, been conditioned to see the words as synonyms. I therefore forgive your confusion.

North American culture has taken issue with the word "sex" and therefor its media outlets have come to use "gender," incorrectly, as a more "appropriate" synonym.

You changed it? How? Holy cow, we can edit poll threads now!

Actually, you can't really. Check my post in the glitches thread(in guild council). -sigh-

But it IS a step up.

EDIT:

I figured, since this is a thread about me and all, that a side-discussion about me would be okay. (mmm. Main course of me with a side of me and a glass of me next to that. Er...) Anyway.

Do you think I make a good authority figure?

I mean, when I'm not in a bitchy/bipolar state of... Bitchy bipolarity. sweatdrop

Boy. Your avatar is male and I based my opinion solely on that.

You do decently as an authority figure, though you have a tendency to be a bit... out in the open about everything. Sometimes, telling someone something in private is the best thing to do.

On a side note:

Yeah, I'm superficial like that.
Actually, I don't really put much thought into someone's gender, I guess. I've seen a few people put disclaimers in their sigs when their avatar is of an opposing sex. There isn't one in Q's, so I just figured he was a boy. Even if he isn't, he seems to want to be thought of as one. It's no skin off my nose if it turns out that he's really a girl. Not only that, but unless he decides to offer the information himself, it's not really any of my business.

Astri...hun, I don't understand a lot of what you say. I read it over and over and I eventually think I understand, but I am probably far from it. I know you are very intellectual, but some of us aren't *cough* me *cough*. I'd like to be able to read your posts AND UNDERSTAND THEM.There's no use in using intellegent english when some people can't understand. You might as well be speaking in tongues. You can still show off your knoledge in plain english.

I don't know you well enough to make assumptions about your motives or to feel comfortable PM'ing you about said assumptions. However, through observation of your behaivor in this guild alone, it appears that you have too much stress in your life and need to loosen up a bit. You seem to take things far too seriously.

It makes me cry when people say things like that. Broaden your horizons! Expand your mind! Go to dictionary.com. It's easy, really 3nodding

Actually, I just figured out what exactly Astri was saying. I would argue connotation, but we're not having that argument xp

Basically, stop me if I'm wrong, it goes like this:
Gender
Based on the opinions of society. For example, a drag queen in the company of other drag queens would be referred to as "she" and considered a female for all intents and purposes. If that same drag queen were to go to, say, a nazi get together, she would be referred to as "he".
Gender deals with how a person and society veiws their sex. It does not necessarily have anything to do with what their reproductive equipment looks like.

Sex
You have a p***s or a v****a. End of story, it is that simple. You are genetically, scientifically, and technically either male or female despite how you feel or what someone else believes.
