It hadn't taken very long for the order and Halloween costume to be placed on her doorstep and thankfully there wasn't any stupid pranks inside... she didn't think she could take them right now. The staff had done enough, why would they add to her misery?

A number of yellow dresses and the like had been inside and for once Amaya was enjoying the fact that she was starting to look a little more like a girl. Reptilian mug aside it was... nice to look in the mirror and see a female instead of an androgenous lizard.

So after trying them all on and picking one to wear out, she made her way to the cafeteria for an early dinner. She walked inside and got herself a fruit salad along with some strawberries and a bottle of water (bowl included) before sitting down at a random table in the center and starting to eat.

Utensils were rather hard to use or hold when you had huge fingers and couldn't see directly in front of yourself - and to watch her eat was kind of disgusting, as Amaya had to mash the food over her teeth while moving it back with her tongue.

Ah well. She was in a slightly better mood today anyway.

Sid had just finished a shower once he decided he wanted something to eat, so his hair was still wet when he stepped into the cafeteria. On the plus side, that made it look closer to black than gray, but then again as long as it was wet it also brushed along his tail. At least he didn't reek of salt water anymore.

He was more or less resigned the fact his diet was going to consist mainly of sea food in the future, so he had a shrimp cocktail in hand when he left the line. A drink could come later, he didn't want to subject anyone to the sight of that as long as he was sober.

With no one else around, he opted to be sociable and head over to the lizard girl's table. She was even more far off than that dragon he knew, so maybe- he hoped- he wouldn't get any guff for his looks or eating habits. It'd give him another excuse to practice talking, anyway.

"Hey," he said once he reached her table. "Awight if I join ya?"

Amaya watched as the man entered, able to spot his odd mouth and tail from across the cafeteria. At least she could say she got better eyesight out of all of this. But wow... what in the world kind of fish was the guy turning into? What fish had teeth and a jaw like that?

But once he started over to her she had stopped her little bout of staring, nodding up to him and giving a tiny little smile that looked rather off on her inhuman features. "Sure, go ahead." She gestured to the empty seats around her.

The girl sat backwards on her chair despite wearing a dress. Her five foot long tail hung off the back of it, trying to curl around some of the table to stay out of the way.

Sid nodded and sat down, careful of his own tail. He'd more or less gotten the hang of not mashing it, but it still required some conscious effort not to.

"No sssense bein' a reclu-- recluse, right? Ah... I'm Sid."

Now if he could just drop the compulsion to correct himself in the middle of a sentence.

"Names Amaya." She headbobbed to him in greeting before untwisting the cap to her water and trying to make casual conversation. Now was a good a time as any to try and force herself out of her little depression, right?

"I seem to be running into a lot of new people lately." The girl gave a dry smirk and poured the water into the empty bowl next to her fruit salad. "I guess another wave came in." She gave him an appologetic look.

"You have no idea," Sid said. He smirked, no matter how odd it might have looked. He picked up one of the shrimp, studied it for a moment, but still wasn't quite to the point where he could feel comfortable eating in front of someone. His track record with trying to eat in the cafeteria in general wasn't that great either, come to think of it.

"So, uh... gueth- ********, guess- you've been here a while."

He winced at his own horrible attempt at conversation.

Though Amaya didn't seem to mind it. There were very few undepressing things you could talk about on the island and as long as the conversation kept from going negative she was fine to talk about almost anything.

"Yeah, guess you could say I was one of the first couple here. Obviously." She craned her neck down, her muzzle going into the water as she sucked it up through her mouth. It was a rather odd way to drink, but she couldn't think of anything easier.

"Sstill, nice dress." Compliments always helped. After watching Amaya drink, and stopping himself before he was outright staring, he felt a little less self-conscious about trying to eat. He popped the shrimp into his mouth, made a few half-assed and messy attempts and chewing, and then swallowed. It wasn't exactly whole anymore, but sometimes he worried.

Amaya smiled, lifting her wet snout up from her water once she was finished. She tried to speak but coughed a little before being able to fully. "Thanks." Awww, yay! Someone liked her dress. That made her feel nice.

She grabbed her napkin to wipe the water from her muzzle, speaking again only afterwards. "I haven't trusted the labs enough to order clothes in a really long time. I guess I finally just got fed up with walking around naked." The teenager said rather casually.

Sid coughed and narrowly avoided choking on his second shrimp.

"Naked, huh?"

He tried to picture that but... no, his mind's eye refused to comply. It came up with Angelina Jolie instead. He shook his head to clear the image either way.

"Well, uh... It's nice." Recycled compliments always helped.

The lizard winced as she watched him cough and flinch. Damn, the newcomers seemed to be really... weird when it came to that. It didn't occur to her that walking around naked wasn't supposed to be normal, but something inside her felt it was just a hassle to wear clothing when you had absolutly nothing to hide. It just got in the way and kept the warm sun off your scales.

Ah well.

"Sorry." She said bashfully, looking down at her fruit salad. "It's... a lot more normal when you don't really have anything to hide and most of the people around are just as changed as you are." She looked back up at him. "S'been awhile since more people've come in."

"I ss-suppose... haven't kept track." Sid looked doubtfully at the next shrimp in line for devouring. Now that Amaya mentioned it, he thought about how eventually he likely going to be covered in scales as well... He barely kept himself from glancing down as he wondered what else might happen. Billy had his special tentacle, and Sid had no idea how viperfish reproduced.

It'd be nice if he could go a single day without worrying about the future. He cleared his throat and tried to change the subject.

"I'm adj... adjusting. Dunno about the others," he said.

He doubted any of the normal folk he knew were still normal now.

"That's good." Amaya headbobbed, though didn't detect the sense of disscomfort he seemed to get when she mentioned her more private changes. To her it was nothing new - she had been this way for months.

"As horrible as it might sound, it's better to just try and accept it. There isn't anything we can really do about it. Just stock up on painkillers." Ugh, she was such a hypocrite. Hadn't she been depressed about how she looked not moments before?

Sid snickered and unconsciously touched his knee under the table. "I gah-got thah covered."

Getting the majority if the words right was good enough for him. He finally popped the shrimp into his mouth, chewed all of three times, and swallowed. After that there wasn't much choice but to suck back the spit that went with it. Disgusting as the whole process was, somehow drooling was so much worse.

He glanced around the room awkwardly before a new topic hit him. "Any plans fah Halloween?"

The iguana continued to nibble on her fruit salad. Although the term "nibble" was used loosely. She would pick up a couple pieces in her mouth and smack them along her sharp teeth, pink tongue flickering and moving the food back so she could swallow it - no matter how solid or mashed up it was.

So it seemed Sid wasn't the only one to have the misfortune of rather poor table etiquette where changes were involved.

"Uhm... I think so, yeah. A guy named Marshall promised to take me. I'm going as a mental patient." She smiled. Nothing frilly for her... despite the dress. "What about you?"
