Subject 437: Origins
Chapter 1
Sadness and Rage A voice in darkness, a child, a young boy, ‘Who am I? Where am I? What...Am I?’ The voices of a man slightly drowned by the blockage of glass, “Doctor, Subject 437's brain waves and all other vital signs are normal...But...He still hasn’t gained consciousness...” Another voice replied, “This one’s brain patterns are far stronger than the last specimen...We may have finally done it...We may have finally cracked the code of evolution.” A pair of striking blue eyes open ever so slightly and a thought passes through its mind, ‘What...Are those sounds?’ Suddenly another voice, the voice of a young girl echoes through the darkness, “Those are words, their talking silly.” The eyes open fully revealing, a dark void of nothingness. Those eyes are attached to a creature, unlike anything ever seen before, though his body is primarily that of a young pale human boy, protruding from his lower back is a long whip-like tail with a sharp still developing barb on the end. His fingers are tipped with claws and the bottom tips of his fingers look spongy as if he had just come out of a shower. He has short sharp teeth coming from his upper lip and white hair adorns his head. He turns, floating in the void to meet the eyes of a blond haired young girl and says, “Words? What are those? And...What are you? And...What am I?” The girl responds with a giggle and says, “Words are sounds you use to communicate, your using words right now. And I’m a girl silly, my name is Eve. You? I’m not quite sure what you are...You look kinda like a boy but...Different...All I know, is that I’ve heard the men out there talking about you...Your name is Adam.” The creature points to himself and says, “A-Dam? Adam?” Then he points to her and says, “Eve?” She giggles again and nods saying, “Yep, those are our names...You and I are both clones, though, I think you were worked on before you were made.” Adam cocked his head to the side and said, “Cloned?” While he was asking, outside where the men were a woman spoke saying, “Um...Doctor...Adam and Eve seem to be communicating...Mentally...” The room is full of computers, and also, two tube shaped tanks, floating inside in fetal positions were on the left, Eve, though she was naked and had wires connected to her and a breather mask, and in the right one, Adam with the same wires and the same type of breather mask. A sort of older man steps behind the woman who is looking at two computer screens that show two sets of brain waves, one marked “Adam” and the other “Eve”. The brain waves are in perfect sync and the woman says, “Should I administer the serum and stop them?” The man replies, “No...Let them talk...She’s teaching him...” Back inside their mental realm, Eve had taken Adam’s hand and was flying seemingly nowhere through the void. Finally some sort of detail appeared, it was a small town, with a large probably usually bustling market full of food and weapons and such, and many houses. Though the sky was still black as the void. When they slowed to a stop Adam looked around and said, “Where are we now?” Eve replied, “I dunno, I found this place one day. Its somewhere in my mind, a memory or something...” Adam looked confused and said, “Memory?” Eve then turned to him and said, “Their things you remember.” Adam nodded, trying to understand. Suddenly, a white ball began to glow in the sky, and suddenly the town below gained color where before it was in black and white. The sky turned blue. There were two glowing balls now. Adam looked up at them and said, “WHAT ARE THEY?!” Eve replied with another giggle and said, “Those are the twin suns...They give our world light and warmth and bring smiles to people.” Adam reached up to try and grab them in his hands, but suddenly drew his hands back when drops of water began to fall from the sky. He said in a panic, “Eve...EVE! Whats going on?!” Eve giggled once more and said, “Thats the rain, sometimes it can be very soft, and other times really strong and even dangerous. This rain is soft though, so don’t worry.” Adam looked into the pals of his hands as rain drops began to fill them and said, “Rain...Say...Who are those people outside, and what do they want with us? Why are we here?” Eve suddenly looked sort of sad. She looked away and said, “They made us...I don’t know why though.” Adam looked confused but before he could say anything, the light began to fade and disappear for a moment, before being replaced by the brilliant light of three huge moons. Adam looked in shock and said, “Are those suns too?!” Eve shook her head looking back at him and smiling sweetly she said, “No, those are moons, they take the suns place when the suns decide its time to go to bed.” Meanwhile, back in the lap, a warning light suddenly went off on the computer screen. Eve’s vital signs were flashing red. The woman working there yelled out, “DOCTOR! DOCTOR STROM! EVE’S VITALS, SHE’S DYING! WE’RE LOSING HER!” Inside the mental realm, Eve suddenly began to glow. Adam looked at her and said, “Eve? Whats happening?” Eve looked sad, but smiled softly to him and said, “I think its time for me to go...” Adam shook his head and said, “Go? But why? I don’t want you to go!” Eve smiled sadly and said, “I’m sorry...” Adam’s eyes filled with tears, he reached up to wipe them and said, “What...What are these?” Eve replied, “Their tears...Your crying...Please don’t cry Adam.” Adam shook his head again and said, “I don’t want you to leave me here alone.” A few tears escaped his eyes as Eve said, “You’ll never be alone...I’ll always be with you. Please Adam...If you do the right thing in this world...Life...Is wonderful...” And with that, she suddenly vanished, as did the reality around them. Outside, her vitals went flat and her brain waves ceased. The woman then said, “Doctor...We lost her...” The older man revealed to be Doctor Strom looked at the screen in awe and said, “Alright...Keep Adam alive. At least we can finish him...” Suddenly, his vital signs and brain waves began to go crazy, and in his tube, it seemed that energy began to eminate from him. In his own mind, the reality around him began to take on a more menacing look as he said, “These tears...What use are they? NOTHING! THEIR USELESS! EVE! EVE PLEASE COME BACK!” The glass of his tube began to crack. Doctor Strom yelled out, “ADMINISTER THE SERUM! NOW! 100 CC’S HE MUSTN’T REMEMBER ANY OF THIS OR ELSE HE’LL GO INTO A RAGE!” Suddenly, a number began to count quickly towards 100. The woman read it off the screen saying, “97...98...99...100...Adam’s vitals and brain waves are returning to normal doctor.” The entire room sighed with relief. Over the next six months Adam grew to his adult form. He thought as he aged, ‘I've been sleeping for so long...Who am I? Where am I? What am I? I am alone. I have a memory...Of someone here...But I can’t...Remember. Words echo through my mind...’Life...Is wonderful’...But...Why?'To be continued...

Chapter 2
I'm Nobodies Slave “Doctor, all life readings are at 100%...I think he’s ready.” The woman at the computers said. Doctor Strom replied watching a now fully grown Adam floating in his holding tank, “Alright...Lets thaw him out.” There was a hiss, and suddenly, the wires that held Adam in place began to disconnect from his body. The water that filled his tank began to drain away and was soon gone. When it was empty, the glass lifted up and went into the ceiling. It was then that the breather mask left his face. His eyes fluttered open and as the light hit his eyes and he was seeing the real world for the first time he said, “Whe-Where am I?” Doctor Strom smirked and said, “Hello there Adam...This is your first day. Welcome...To reality.” Adam loosened his legs and got out of the fetal position moving so that he sat on the edge of the pedestal that his tank sat on and said, “Reality? I have slept for so long...This is what the real world looks like?” He looked around and said, “Metal and machines...” Doctor Strom laughed a bit and said, “Oh dear me no...This is just the lab where you have been born...The real world is much more beautiful...You’ll see it soon, but first, come with me, I’ll explain things to you.” Doctor Strom turned to walk out of the room, and Adam followed, his long tail trailing behind him. Outside the door to the lab they were met by two guards wielding big swords. As they walked through the halls, the other scientists cheered seeing their creation finally out of stasis. Adam looked around confused and said, “Why are they so excited?” Doctor Strom then said, “Well, you are our first specimen to survive the process, we’re all very happy.” Adam then said, “Specimen? I’m a specimen? To be tested upon for research?” Doctor Strom looked over at him and said with a smirk, “Your extremely intelligent, I assume you were absorbing language from our minds with your telepathic powers while you were sleeping. But yes, you have a long road ahead of you, first, you will be checked on to watch your powers develop, and then you will be given to Emperor Toji to be used in his army.” Adam suddenly stopped walking and said, “Used? In his army? So I am to be used as a weapon, by this...Emperor?” Doctor Strom nodded and said, “Yes thats right.” Adam replied, “No...Thats not right...I’m alive...I will do things right and make my life wonderful...And that does not include being used as a tool of destruction!” His eyes suddenly began to glow and energy began to emanate from him, suddenly the pipes that ran along the ceiling began shaking, and in moments one of them broke free and steam filled the hall. Doctor Strom stepped back watching in horror and said, “Adam! Calm down!” Adam suddenly left the ground, levitating and said, “NO! I WILL NOT BE USED BY HUMANS!” Suddenly a wave of energy shot from his body causing all the glass in the hallway to shatter and for the walls on either side of Adam to dent deeply. Doctor Strom was struck with terror and turned to run. Adam held out his hand and suddenly levitated the doctor. While he was in the air, he began screaming in agony as Adam attempted to destroy his very architecture. The guards reacted, raising their swords and charging at Adam. Alarms went off. Adam looked over his shoulder to see at least 25 guards charging him. He threw Doctor Strom aside and turned on the guards, not even having to move his arms they were thrown back by Adam’s incredible power. Then, continuing his rampage, he returned to the lab and began destroying machinery including his former stasis cell. The woman who had been at the computers before was levitated and literally crushed by Adam’s powers. Her mangled corpse tossed aside. As he continued destroying things, another scientist wounded and bleeding crawled his way to a computer panel. He typed something up and said weakly, “At least...If we’re going to die...He’ll die with us...” A red countdown began. But as soon as it was up, the scientist lurched forward, the barb on the end of Adam’s tail went right through his stomach. Adam levitated out into the hall again, his eyes glowing blue. Inside the lab, the countdown hit ‘3...2...1...0'. Suddenly, somewhere in the facility, there was an explosion. Adam heard it and turned his head to look over to his right, just in time to see a blast of fire flow down the hall and engulf him. The facility which was situated somewhere in a beautiful almost Alaskan looking mountain range, suddenly glowed bright red and then, exploded, leaving just a stream of smoke rising high into the sky. Flying above the wreckage and carnage was a black helicopter with an emblem on the side, the emblem was two dragons intertwined, and it said underneath ‘Carthian Empire’. Back down in the wreckage, Doctor Strom somehow survived, he pulled himself out of the rubble and saw a wall of fire before him. The flames suddenly parted, and there was Adam, not a scratch on him. Strom looked in horror, blood streaming from his head he said, “My dream was to take a step forward in evolution...I succeeded...” Then in an instant, Adam’s barb shot forward and plunged through Stroms head, killing him. As Adam looked upon the wreckage of the laboratory, there was suddenly the sound of clapping behind him. He turned to see a man in a black suit with dark sunglasses, a rapier on his hip, and slicked black hair walking towards him. The man stopped about 12 feet from Adam who said, “Who are you?” The man replied, “Wonderful, simply amazing good Adam...My name is Toji...” Adam turned to face him completely, his tail waving around a bit he said, “Toji? The Emperor? They said you want to use me as a weapon...Thats why they all lie dead this day.” Toji chuckled and said, “Indeed I wanted to use you as a weapon...But your far too intelligent to fall for that. Tell me Adam, those powers of yours...Their reckless, even you can’t fully control them...Can you?” Adam looked down at his left hand and said, “Not fully yet...No.” Toji smirked and said, “Then come with me...I can teach you, train you to harness those impressive powers...I only ask for your allegiance in return.” Adam replied, “I’m nobodies slave...” Toji laughed and said, “You won’t be one. Promise me your allegiance and you shall be my equal...Partners...If you will. By the time our plans are finished, the entire world will respect you.” Adam looked at him suspiciously and said, “Why are you doing this? Whats in it for you?” Toji laughed outloud and said, “I will have the most powerful being on all of Terra as my ally...Do you accept?” Adam looked around at the flames and wreckage, then back at Toji. He nodded reluctantly and slowly, and then the two of them climbed on the helicopter, and flew away. To be continued...

Chapter 3
Betrayal Over the next several months, Adam became more machine than organic. He was given a suit of armor which did little more than to suppress his powers into a more controllable form. When he was not outside carrying out Toji’s dark designs, he was kept in a large metal box with a single round window on the front. Inside the tank, he was kept in his space age looking armor, with wires attached to him, he spent those hours, meditating on his life and continuously trying to figure out...What was his purpose. On one occasion, the Carthian Army was fighting in a burning desert against the army of Theron. The Carthian marines were being pushed back. A Carthian warrior who had just sliced the head off a Theronian yelled back, “WE NEED TO FALL BACK OR ELSE WE’LL ALL BE KILLED!” Gunblades continuously blazing. Suddenly, a helicopter could be seen in the sky, it slowly lowered to the dusty sandy ground, and out stepped Adam, alone. He levitated off the ground and floated forward, the Carthian troops knew exactly what to do and fell back a bit. The Theronians stared at Adam confused, he had no weapons, was this all that Toji could conjure? Some freak with a tail? Adam needed only to lift his hand in the direction of his advisaries, and suddenly, his fist took on a blue glow. As soon as that happened, the Theronians began to be thrown around, their tanks and armor support exploded or was lifted in the air and dropped on the unfortunate troops...All with a single flick of the wrist... Back at the royal palace of the Carthian Empire, which lay in the capital city of Darea, Adam was back in his little metal prison. He said outloud, “Why am I here...What is my purpose...” Suddenly the sounds of clapping could be heard, he lifted his head to look out the window, to see Toji standing on a platform above where Adam was. Toji smirked and said, “Very good Adam...This latest victory will extend our borders into the Iron Desert, you should be very proud...” Adam replied, “I’m glad...But there is something you have yet to tell me. I have asked you this everyday...You will answer me now...What is my true purpose...Why am I here?” Toji chuckled and said, “I suppose I should tell you...I commissioned your creation for you to be a weapon, and whether you realize it or not, you’ve been doing exactly that.” Adam’s eyes widened in his helmet as he said, “What?! But...You told me we were partners...You said we were equals!” Toji laughed and said, “Fool! You were created by humans to serve me, you could never be my equal...” Adam called out, “Humans may have created me...But I will never be their slave! THIS CANNOT BE...MY DESTINY!” Suddenly, the room began to shake, the glass window began to crack. Already rubble and dust began to fall from the ceiling. Toji stepped back and looked around frantically in nervousness he yelled out, “ADAM! STOP THIS NOW! I COMMAND YOU TO STOP THIS!” In an instant the metal cell vaporized, and Adam stood there, exposed to all he levitated and yelled out, “ONLY I MAY COMMAND MY POWERS!” Suddenly, a wave of energy began expanding from Adam’s body and engulfing everything in the room, whatever it touched was vaporized. Toji turned in panic and ran out of the room. Adam levitated up to the door that Toji had left through and followed him, destroying things as he went. Servants fled in his wake, some were vaporized and killed. Outside, explosions could be seen coming from the palace as Adam began firing balls of energy everywhere, destroying all in his path. An alarm went off in the city, and news helicopters were instantly on the scene. As he rampaged, Adam suddenly spotted someone, a young girl about 17 years old, with beautiful blond hair. He looked upon her, and his eyes widened his voice stumbled as he said, “E-Eve...Eve!” At that very moment, his memory had returned. As he looked on her suddenly, there were gunshots reflected on the energy field around him. He looked back to see a unit of guards, with Toji at the head, all wielding gunblades. Adam barred his teeth, flew foreword and hit the girl on the head, wrapping his arm around her he started levitating into the air. Toji yelled out, “STOP FIRING YOU FOOLS! He has my daughter! MONSTER! GIVE ME BACK CHRISTIENA!” Adam looked at the girl and then at Toji and said, “A fair trade...For my time of servitude...” With that, he looked towards the ceiling and launched through at least 9 floors and into the air, he held the girl in one arm and with the other, he began to charge up a ball of black energy. Toji looked in horror and yelled out, “RUN YOU FOOLS!” He and the guards fled for their lives and burst through the front door of the palace right when it suddenly glowed crimson, and in a flash a beam of energy fired into the sky and all that remained of the palace was a pile of charred stones. Toji watched as Adam flew off into the sky and disappeared faster than the speed of sound. A guard ran up and called out, “EMPEROR TOJI! ARE YOU ALRIGHT YOUR HIGHNESS?!” He ran up to him and said, “Don’t worry sir, everything is alright now...” Toji looked back at him and said, “Nothing is alright! My daughter is in the hands of that beast! For him to do with what he will...” A few months later, on an island far out at sea, with black swirling clouds overhead, a dark fortress stood. Inside the fortress, there were a few interesting things, in one room, sat Toji’s daughter Christiena in a jail cell. In another room, was a place that looked, almost identical to the cloning lab that Adam was born in. And finally, at the top of the tall tower in the center of the fortress, on a throne, sitting before several computer screens showing various major cities, including Darea was Adam. On his right there was a large keyboard, which he was typing on, and on the left, there was a glass container, with nothing in it except a blue glowing orb of light. Adam sat brooding over the screens, he cupped his clawed hands in front of his face and said mentally, 'I was brought into this world by humans...But my creators used and betrayed me...They let my first love and only friend die, and they did nothing to help...Then...They used me as a weapon...To kill other humans in their pathetic wars...They have no love for life or decency...But...Soon my life will be back to normal...Soon...Eve' He reached over and ran his hand down the side of the glass and said, “Very soon...” And so it begins...
