Kida sat by her well loved pond, out in the garden behind the castle. Her legs were streched out in front of her and she ran her fingers of her left hand lightly over the surface of the water, watching her reflection ripple.

Sighing, she held up her hand to eye level, rubbing the ring on her finger and stared at it.

She still felt the surge of happiness when she looked at it and thought about it, but there were times, like now, that it felt restricting and scary. Was she really ready for this? There was so much in the world she wanted to see and do!

The tan woman shook her head. She just didn't know.

MacBeth had seen her from the library window and came practically running down and out into the garden. He hadn't seen his friend in such a long time, and he hadn't properly congratulated her.

"Kida!" he nodded as he approached the Atlantian. It was so beautiful, the way the water reflected off of her skin, it almost made her look like a goddess.

It also glinted off the ring all the same, like a beacon of golden light. It was almost mocking him, it was so easy for some to find love... but to others...

"I wanted to congratulate you, Kida," he nodded, "I hope that you and Jack have a wonderful life together!"

Kida's hand flew down, and her face seemed to compose itself. It seemed there was always a show she was putting on for others. Sometimes she felt she could never display anything properly.

"MacBeth!" she cried happily, jumping up and throwing her small arms around his neck.

It felt so different, hugging MacBeth, then hugging Jack. Jack was slightly shorter then her friend, as well as leaner. She tried not to feel the muscles in MacBeth's arms wrapped around her.

"Oh, thank you," she said graciously, releasing him. "I'm...sure we will." She smiled, with only the hint of uncertainty about her air.

Kida had developed her skills at lying well over the years.

MacBeth hugged her close, it'd been awhile since he'd been out to socialize. He had a younger sister worried about her engagement and another one who was busy trying to take care of an alien baby!

However, the fact that he had over ten siblings gave him a rather nice flair at insight. .... Something wasn't right.

"Kida," MacBeth said, "Is there something wrong?" He raised an eyebrow, shaking his head, "Don't tell me you're getting cold feet. Little Wendy's getting the same thing!"

Kida jumped a little and blushed.

"No, no! Of course not!" She said, sounding more like she was trying to reassure herself then MacBeth. "Well, I mean I'm just a little scared of being tied down." She shook her head. "But it's silly. Jack travels, it's not like I'll be trapped in one spot or anything, and I'll be with him." She sighed. "He always goes away, and I have to be here alone."

She took MacBeth's hand and started strolling down the path. "I feel like there's so much that I haven't done yet, though. But I love Jack, I know."

MacBeth squeezed Kida's hand reassuringly, "If you love him, Kida, then there's nothing that you can't conquer."

He paused to laugh, his barrel chest moving up and down, "I know it sounds silly, like something out of a movie. I didn't believe in it, you know. I used to think that books and action could solve any problem. But after you have love and lose it, you realize. Love can change a person, it can change civilization... I mean, you know the story of Helen of Troy, right? Adam and Eve? Romeo and Juliet?"

Kida laughed. "You're mistaking me for one of my sisters. I am not the reader of the family." She could care less about fine literature, but she didn't mention that to MacBeth, out of politeness.

"My sister has told me of Romeo and Juliet, though," she said. "I don't know, that's a very sad view on love, isn't it?" She shrugged. "Well, Imbri seems to be able to do without it, but she's kind of bitter sometimes."

"It's just rather sad," he shrugged, "I had lots of opportunities, but I gave them up because of my strange hopes." He chuckled a little bit, "You're lucky, Kida. Jack seems like a nice man. A bit of a vagabond, but I've heard that women tend to like that sort of thing."

"Oooh, a vagabond," she said, wrinkling her pretty nose and running her shoulder into his arm. "How can you say that?" she smiled up, her eyes laughing.

"Opportunities? Strange hopes?" She wasn't sure what he was reffering too. He had always been curious to her, the silly little boy she played with, the teen she tried to embarress and now a man with secrets that she had no idea of. She recalled that as much as she had talked and joked with him, she didn't know too much about him.

MacBeth laughed heartily, "Well, you ARE in love with a pirate, aren't you?" He grimaced a little bit at her confusion, though.

"Do you remember, a long time ago, when Aurora was a teenager? She disappeared one day, only to appear months later... as a child. She had no memory of me, but I pushed away all opportunities of romance with other girls. I guess I hoped that she'd remember or something silly like that. But, she doesn't remember, and there's a little boy who I hope ends up courting her." He looked down at the pond and gently stroked one of the lilypads that floated on its surface.

"However, my hesitance has left me in a rather dire pickle. I'm not getting younger, however there seems to be no women who strike my interest in that way."

She smiled. "Yes, I guess I am. How unfortunate," she laughed. "I suppose he's just predispositioned to it."

The white haired woman sat listening to MacBeth, remembering a time when Aurora had been with MacBeth. Poor little Aurora. She had been a friend to Kida and she looked mornful, realizing that she related well with MacBeth. She had lost a good friend when the girl lost her memory. She could always restart, but it wasn't the same as growing up together. "Oh, I'm sorry, MacBeth," she said. Kida leaned up and gave the dark haired man a quick peck on the cheek and stroked his hair.

"I'm sure there's got to be someone out there," she said softly. "It might jsut take some time."

"You are a kind woman, princess," said MacBeth as he hugged his friend once more, "I suppose I should be patient. After all, in fairy tales doesn't the prince have to travel to find his maiden?"

Kida blushed and smiled. "Thank you, MacBeth," she didn't say anything about him calling her a princess. Heck, for all she knew in a former life, maybe she had been.

Obviously the gracefullness hadn't carried over into this life.

"Perhaps your fair maiden will travel to find you?"

MacBeth laughed, "I can't just sit and wait, maybe we'll meet each other halfway there."

He sat down on a bench, his laughter turning into a smile, "If I may ask, how did you and Jack meet?"

Kida sat down next to him on the bench and leaned her head backwards, thinking. "I don't really remember. Somewhere in the castle. We played a lot as kids, and then when he was a teen," here, she giggled. "I asked him out."

"How come you can't just sit around?"
