Quote:
Trees were growing out of the sky. Bright reds, oranges- greens still left clinging. She couldn’t see them, but in the eyes of a bird sitting on top of one of the sky-trees, she could feel them. And in her mind, she painted them back up. Brilliant orange, flowing from the sky. Clouds in the earth and rain growing beneath it. Space, time- beneath it. And the grass blew the reflections of the clouds down below.
The small female sucked in a breath and stretched, her lean body curving as she did. She was laying on her back- and because of this, her opinion of the world was skewed. It would have been lovely though- to think of trees growing out of the sky. It brought a smile to her face, and lazily she stretched her paws forward. These were the lazy kind of daydreams she’d done as a child when she had been alone. Now, she continued them on such autumn afternoons.
Phib was out and about fixing this and that- and there always seemed to be things to fix. The pack seemed to be swirling with life. Everyone was expecting! Phib pretended to be cranky, but even she could see an eager bounce in his step about the coming puppies. If only--
Amélie rolled over with a sigh, ignoring the slight dull throb in her shoulder as she did. She would have loved children. A million of them- if she could. She’d name them after flowers. It would make Phib furious. That too brought a smile. She couldn’t be too disappointed. It was too lovely an afternoon to drown with self pity. Perhaps Gareth would have some babies. Phib seemed to be deeply interested in that happening. With a sour face, Amélie signed. Hopefully he wasn’t going to scare poor Gareth- or Mozelle! Away with his eagerness.
The autumn wind blew, and slowly she turned her head towards it. She was waiting here for someone- but she had only dreamed it, and sometimes her visions were shoddy at best.

Not too far away from where the pretty seer was resting, another frail figure stumbled along randomly. She didn't know where she was going, only that she was walking and going some place else. Her life recently hadn't been very exciting. She'd run into a couple of wolves, but not that she could completely remember. Her life before a certain time was nothing but a blur, and so she often left all of that alone, allowing herself only to focus on when her next meal was going to be and how she was going to get it.
Whisper was growing older and older by the day, it seemed. She was going deaf in both ears and she was mostly skin and bones, no fat on her frame at all. She could hardly hunt and mostly scavenged off of dead creatures. It wasn't a good life, but at least she was alive.
Sighing, she continued along with her tail dragging behind her. When was the last time she had let it wag? Unable to remember, she simply shook her head and thought of something else. Like the scent that was suddenly wafting towards her. Instantly she became frightened. The last thing she wanted was a confrontation with an aggressive wolf. That would surely be the end of her if she stumbled upon the wrong person.
She didn't want to go forward, but no way was she going back. It seemed rather useless, going back the way one came. But what to do about this strange wolf?
Glancing around, Whisp tried to scout the lands to see if she could find anything, like a hiding place of some sort. Nothing. Whining to herself, she sat down uncomfortably and thought. The grasses were still green enough that perhaps she could pass by unnoticed. Hoping that this would work (and even if she was caught, what was she losing by it?) the female sauntered cautiously forward. Her ears flicked this way and that, though she knew she couldn't hear a growling bear sneaking up upon her.
Nervously, she passed through some tall grasses. The wind had changed, and she lost the scent from before. Startled, she stepped back and snapped a twig, though she couldn't hear it.
She was in trouble if she ran into anyone..

Sadness, hunger- the overwhelming emotions suddenly pooled through her body. She felt them as vividly as if they were her own. In her joints, in her muscles- and yet, she knew they were not hers. They hovered inside of her like a ghost; her mind picking up the slow pangs and reflecting them throughout her body. But it was the loneliness that swelled in her that made the breath rush from her throat. So lost! It was hard not to absorb too much of the feeling. She could not manipulate such things- although inwardly, she tried to grasp out the loneliness reflected in herself and warm it away. Did people not know they were never alone? Oh! She felt them!
Amélie cut the connection, and felt it slide away from her, tendrils of what remained clinging to her only as a source of reminding her of another’s presence. A weak creature, not one she was familiar with. She felt a connection to this lady- and the strangeness pulled her to her feet.
The autumn wind was blowing again. It wasn’t a cold wind- but it warned that in the days ahead time might fall to the chilly north. She sucked in a breath and settled her mind, focusing in on where the shifting shape was in the distance. "Hello?" She spoke, but not loud enough. It became drowned out in the wind and rustling bone leaves, and slowly, Amélie moved forwards.
"Hello there- not too good for seeing," She admitted, as had become tantamount to an introduction for Amélie. "But I am here. Where are you?"

Whisper remained glued to the spot, her tail twitching as she strained her ears. She wished that she wasn't going deaf, that way she wouldn't have to be so cautious. It was amazing how much a wolf could rely on its sense of hearing to keep itself safe.
With nothing randomly popping out at her quite yet, she began to relax. In her mind, if something wanted to kill her or attack her, they wouldn't wait there for a long time to do it. It just seemed easier if they attacked her right away and killed her, got it over with. Therefore, with each passing second, she found herself more ready to move on.
As she was about to take a step forward, the wind blew furiously in her face, causing her to fold her ears back and squint her eyes and habitually lift her right forepaw from the ground to place it close to her chest. As she did so, she could have sworn that she heard some whisperings in the wind. Maybe it was her old mind finally going crazy, but she doubted it. Why now, and not earlier?
Glancing around, she tried to see if anyone was around her. She spotted a slim, silver wolf not too far away. Instantly all of her senses went on high alert. The other didn't seem to know where she was, though, and so she became curious thereafter.
"H-hello?" she stammered rather loudly, not really certain if she should be calling out to this wolf or not. Was it playing dumb? Sniffing the wind, she scented no aggression. But did that make the other safe? Unsure, she shuffled her paws and readied herself to flee if the situation demanded it.
"I'm sorry if-if I've trespassed or anything... I don't r-really know where I am."

She spoke! In her hazy mind of moving shapes and echoes, she turned her head to the direction of the female. She could ‘see’ her in the distance; her mind swirling somewhere and out of touch. "Whisper!" Amélie uttered. She had never heard the name before- but she knew it now. She did not know this wolf, but she knew her now. Enough so that for a moment, she forgot the restraints she imposted upon herself to keep her abilities hidden.
"No no," She spoke again, approaching slowly. She did so in a shy way- her body low and her tail tucked between her legs. Seer or not, she would always be an omega. "No trespassing. I am Amélie-" A pause, and she realized she might have already ruined it. She’d already uttered the female’s name, hadn’t she? Well, she would do no more to mess the situation.
"You are here, this is where you are." Amélie spoke, looking around. "Some miles away from the sea, and some miles from the mountains. You are some miles from anything, really." She admitted somewhat cryptically.

Whisper tilted her head slightly at the other. Her lips moved, but she had a hard time hearing anything that might have come out as words. Frowning, she shook her head and flicked her ears nervously.
"I'm sorry, you'll have to speak up a little. I... can't hear too well," she admitted, not really liking doing so. Being nearly deaf was a weakness, and she knew how dumb it was to admit one's weaknesses to a potential enemy. But she looked at Ame and simply couldn't help trusting the other female. She didn't know why, but she felt an instant connection between the two of them, and she felt a certain warmth coming from the other that she hadn't felt in a long while.
As the seer drew closer, Whisp glanced at her eyes and noticed that they seemed rather dead. They had a certain tint to it that suggested something might be wrong. Blind, perhaps?
"Ame.. A.. what?" she asked, feeling stupid for having to ask the female to repeat herself. If only she had her hearing back.
Amazingly, though, she heard the part about being miles from the sea and miles from the mountains. She had seen the mountains, but she hadn't known there was a sea nearby. But suddenly she realized something. What was a sea? She hadn't seen one before, had she? If she had, she certainly didn't remember.
Shaking her head, she blinked at the other. "I'm Whisper, if it matters any," she said quietly. The volume of her voice often increased and decreased sporatically. It came with being virtually deaf.

Amélie smiled genuinely, and leaned forward. "Hee- I can’t be seeing to well. How sad a thing!" She spoke, but did so louder to compensate for the others hearing. "But we get along, don’t we? Don’t need ears to hear or eyes to see. Sometimes, you don’t need anything to have everything." The female spoke again, and Amélie smiled considerately. She had no problems repeating herself- and did not bat an eye to the question.
"A-may-lee." She pronounced louder- but not in a condescending way. "Amy; you can call me. Sometimes they call me Fourth- names are no worries. It is nice to meet you Whisper." She spoke, lowering her head in as respectful a position as she could.
For all her abilities- she couldn’t tell if this female was older then her or not. Her spirit was old- and she felt it heavy in her heart. "Whisper’s name matters to Amélie." She remarked; repeating her name again for good measure. "Are you headed somewhere? It is such a windy day-"

Whisper's tail gave a slight whisk to the side as the other repeated herself, talking louder. She didn't seem at all annoyed or anything, and she was glad for that. The last thing she wanted was to cause trouble for someone, especially someone who seemed as nice and caring as this wolf.
"A-may-lee," she repeated slowly, making sure that she got every part of the name correct. She didn't want to mispronounce the other's name either. How dreadful that would be! She also didn't hear the part about how she could call the other Amy, if she wanted, and so her pronounciation of her name became even more imporant though she didn't realize it.
As Ame mentioned that Whisp's name was important to her, a certain glow suddenly appeared as her tail swayed back and forth. It pleased her to hear that, even if she did have to strain to do so. It was nice to be appreciated, even by this wolf she hardly knew. "Thank you," she smiled, her normally dull eyes glowing with warmth and gratefulness.
"Oh, me? No, no. I just wander. And yes... very strong wind today. Makes it chilly, don't you think?" she asked, growing more and more comfortable around the seer as the minutes passed by.

Amélie was pleased- for now, the weight of loneliness she felt on the other female fell away. "Yes, I think it will be blowing in a north wind." She smiled, her ears flattening. "Cold times ahead- but today is being very nice. They say the orange is pretty this year. I’ve never seen it- but last year, it was red." They’d been here a year now. It felt like ages. To think that there had been a time when they had roamed in somber confusion. Amélie had liked having Phib to herself- but in a way, she had also felt very guilty. Half the exodus had been her fault, hadn’t it? That and Phib’s stubborn pride.
"But the weather is better here then elsewhere. You should come see the ocean sometime- wind makes it cold, but it is lovely. We get big fish now. They come and have babies." It seemed everyone was having babies! "Everyone is having babies-" She mused, and flicked the end of her ear.
"Wandering? Do you wander someplace in particular, Whisper?" Amélie asked. For the first time- she let her mind flutter, and suddenly felt it snap back. That was unusual. Not like with Meskeet's mind, or Kaho's, or Lao's. This was...she prodded again. Troubled mind!

Whisper took a moment to glance around them. She hadn't really noticed it before, but yes, the orange was very pretty. Last year was red? Oh, she couldn't remember that far back. It was a shame, really. She wondered why, but always seemed to get a headache whenever she pondered that subject too much. Consequently, she left it alone.
"Yes, it is very pretty," she commented, agreeing with whoever had told Ame that the orange was pretty this year. Perhaps her pack. Did she have a pack?
As she attempted to listen to the seer, she heard nothing up until she began talking about the fish. At the mention of babies, Whisp let her ears fall backwards slightly. She felt a certain loss every time she thought of puppies, as if she had had some of her own and lost them or something of the sort. Little did she know, she had actually adopted puppies and raised them and they were all off now living their own lives. But oh how she wished she could have had puppies of her own! They were always so bright and happy, the pretty little things. But in her condition... it was suicide.
"Oh, no," she replied quickly, letting herself forget the subject of puppies. "I just go where ever, really. I have no home and no family." At least, not that she knew off. According to her shakey memory, all of her family had been slain by the two-legged kind.

Amélie furrowed her brow, a bit disappointed in herself over bringing the subject up. She of all people! But the other female’s pangs towards the idea of pups brought up much sympathy in the small grey. She blinked her ringed blue eyes and nodded softly, affectionately trying to smooth over what had been said before. Whisper didn’t seem to mind- but Amélie took such things to heart.
"No family?" She peeped softly, her face frowning in concern. "I am sorry- times can be hard." She admitted softly, while in the back of her mind, the wheels turned in her head. Something familiar, she was forgetting. Where had she heard the name Whisper before? She had known it from the other female’s thoughts- but that hadn’t been the first wolf she’d heard to think of such a name.
"Familiar, I think- perhaps sometime I see someone who knows Whisper. I feel that I have known her name before. Odd, yes? Would someone be looking for you?"

The green female didn't much mind the topic of puppies coming up in their conversation, it was just that she wished she had had a chance to have some of her own. But now she was growing older and was growing closer to her time being up. And even now, her body was far too frail to hold any babies for very long. Perhaps it was good that she was alone, that way she didn't have to see others having puppies and feeling sorry for herself that she couldn't.
"It's fine," she murmured, a little softer than she meant it to be. "I can't much remember anything, so I think it's all fine." Though, she admitted silently to herself, she would have liked to remember and know the truth. At the moment, she could only guess.
As Ame said something about knowing her name from somewhere, Whisp tilted her head slightly. How could she know her name? She didn't think there would be anyone that would know her really, unless it was someone from a time in her life where she couldn't remember.
"Yes, odd," she agreed, looking the other over carefully. "No, I don't think anyone would. And if they are... oh, I can't remember."

"Not...remember?" Amélie spoke, slow as if she could not understand for a moment. Was that why her past was hard to read? She had none? Impossible- but, then the mind could be a tricky place. "Hee," She uttered somewhat in embarrassment. "It might seem pressing to ask, I don’t mean to be seeming much harm. But, why can you not remember?"
She took a few steps closer, her body still submissive and affectionate, but her face molded in a skew of concern. She’d heard of people having amnesia before- but she couldn’t name one that she’d ever met. It was almost a superstition. This notion of forgetting- it was rather scary. She hated to prod- she hated to appear...powerful? Was that the word? She wanted to be humble. Not quite like this.
"Did something happen?"

Whisper shrugged her shoulders, or at least shrugged the best that a wolf could. But her bad right shoulder also kept her from shrugging to her fullest potential. Not that it mattered anyways..
"I don't know why. I can't remember anything past a few months ago," she admitted, as if it were some sort of crime. "I figure something must have happened, for my head hurt a lot. And every time I try to remember I get this really bad pain in my skull."
As Ame stepped forward, closer to her, she couldn't help but grow a little suspicious. She seemed oddly interested in her memory problems, and Whisp wanted to know why.

"Ow-" Amélie spoke reflectively. It was a childish reaction to the other female’s story, but she let it slide all the same. Could a thonk on the head really do that? Phib had gotten hit on the head good a couple of times, but he’d never forgotten things. The idea of this intrigued her. Could she...fix it?
"Perhaps, would it be good to be fixing it?" Amélie spoke nervously, resorting to the jargon she had developed as a child. When she spoke like that, people took her lightly. She wanted to be taken lightly. "I mean-" She correct, realizing it had been perhaps too abstract. "Head- what if you could remember? Would you like to remember?"
"I am not good at many things. Seeing- running, being smart; things like that. Can’t really help people much either- but I am good with heads. I might be able to help you remember."

Whisper tilted her head slightly at the strange offer of the other. Fix her head? But how? She didn't even know what had happened to make her forget all the time, so how could it be fixed? It seemed rather impossible, and she wondered briefly if maybe Ame was crazy. But that was rude, and she dismissed it quickly. This female wasn't crazy, whatever she said.
"I think it would be nice to remember," she began slowly, thinking about all of this in her head. It would be rather nice to remember her life, to remember everyone she had met growing up and to remember what had happened to make her such a frail loner.
"Could you really make me remember?" she asked excitedly. But how? Again she asked herself that question. Was it even possible to do such a thing, to fix someone's memory?
"I would very much like to try to remember," she admitted. "I want to remember what happened to me during my life."

A brief flicker of delight flew across Amélie’s face. Until, that is, she realized she had absolutely no idea how to fix the thing she had said she could do. Could she? Seers did such things to control others- why couldn’t she use it for good things? Hard...how to go about it. She practiced reading, but she never had actually manipulated anything before. Luckily for her-Whisper wasn’t a seer. She had a feeling Whisper would have opted out of this doctor-patient relationship if she knew that Amelie probably knew about as much as she did in getting her to remember.
"Sometimes, I see things." Amelie spoke, trying to explain herself. "But I can’t see things. You know? Sometimes you hear- but you can’t always hear. It’s like that. I think I can help you." Did she truly think that? With a suck of her own breath, she nodded her head. Yes, she did think she could. It was possible.
"But- don’t be afraid. Not scary things, yes? Actually- I was waiting here for you. I had a dream about you. But ignore that, it doesn’t matter. Dreams don’t really matter." She rambled, but all the while, she poked around Whispers head. "I think to remember, it’s best to go slowly."
"If I ask you things about your past- do you think you can try to remember? If you try to remember, I can find what you’re looking for."

Whisper didn't quite understand what the other female was getting at, but she just decided to accept it and move on. Whatever it was, Ame seemed to know more than her about what she was going to do to fix her memory.
Her fur bristled slightly when she was told not to be afraid. Was there something to be afraid of, then? Failure, perhaps? But, she supposed, things couldn't be any more worse than they were right at this very moment. She grew even more alarmed, however, when Ame mentioned having a dream about her and waiting for her to arrive. Was she serious? Why would she be so important as to have a whole dream dedicated to her? But that didn't matter right now, so she simply shook her head and let the subject fall.
"Slowly," she nodded, taking in a deep breath. She didn't know what was going to happen, so she prepared herself for anything.
She nodded again at the seer, adding on, "I can try my best."

Amélie’s face brightened, and she sat herself back, as if she had already accomplished something great. Was it so easy for her to feel pleased? Now was the hard part. She tried not to bother minds. She had perhaps trained herself in the reverse direction of every other seer in history. She swallowed most of her abilities down until it was nothing but an amusing way to bother her mate when he was far away. Phib- even now, she could feel him somewhere far off. He was worrying, as he always did. But now she was distracted, and she returned her thoughts back upon Whisper.
Her mind pooled, and she felt around. Whisper was hungry- she had been eating dead animals for weeks now. Lonely too- wandering. Her head hurt sometimes. But they knew those things, and Amélie flattened her ears, and took a different turn.
"When you were little- your pack was destroyed by Man." She mused. But Whisper knew this too. This was where the knots got tied together. "Where did you go? After that? Were you hurt?"
As Whisper flexed to remember- Amélie followed the path her mind looked into. There was a knot- and carefully, she started to untie it.

Whisper sat down. She didn't know how long this might take, but she figured that she might as well make herself comfortable while it all happened. As she did so, she felt herself closing her eyes, seeing nothing but darkness until she felt something touch her mind. What was that?
In the next instant she heard a familiar voice in her head. It confused her for a moment, but she couldn't think much on it as suddenly she felt some memories rushing back to her.
She saw her family being killed off, one by one, by the murderous monsters that were the two-leggeds. She flinched and whined, her ears falling back. She saw her parents go down, and then her childhood friend. Tathar! She suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head; something had hit her and knocked her out. Hours later, she awoke to the bloody sight of her whole pack, family and everything, dead. She moved around, nosing each body to see if anyone was still alive by some miracle. No one stirred. Hearing yells in the distant, she ran away, far away from there. She ran until she could run no more, until she had stumbled upon woods not too far away from here..
Whisper took in a deep breath, remembering more clearly the time after she had witnessed the slaughtering of her pack. She remembered exactly how she felt, and exactly what she had smelt... it was horrible.

A faint shudder pulsed through Amelie, and she leaned forward to align her weight more to her front portion then her back to bring focus. The pain in her shoulder was agitating her, and coupled with the tension flooding through Whisper’s mind, she had to strain to keep herself objectively connected to the other female. Only a half answer- but this would do. She had to be getting somewhere.
"Sometimes things happen for reasons that we'll never know." She thought lightly, reflecting on the bodies of the dead parents. It felt funny- being there. She was standing besides a strange green child, hearing the yells far away. The pup started to run- and she turned away. There was nothing now where the bodies and the yelling were. Blackness all around- and she followed the little Whisper into a different place.
"And then you came here." She spoke. "What happened after that? Did you meet anyone?" Amélie questioned, her temple flinching once as she hit a slight dead end. She paused, and waited for Whisper to move forward again. It was a tangled ball of thread, and it got worse as they went. But the thread seemed strong enough, she did not worry that it would break.
"Do you remember their names?"
