HALLOWEEN

Do you celebrate Halloween? Do you celebrate it (or a holiday near it with a different name) religiously or secularly? How do you celebrate it?

I go out Trick Or Treating with my nieces and nephews. Every dresses up and tries to get as much candy as possible, regardless of how old you are.
If decorations are available, the house is decked out in orange and black - streamers, pumpkins, bats, cats, a full moon etc... most of the time we turn our Christmas lights on. xd
We're probably going to just leave a bowl full of candy near the door once nighttime hits - everyone able to get up and tend to the door will be out with the kids gettin' candy - so I hope that people don't get greedy and take it all in one run sweatdrop
I still don't know what I'm going to dress up as, though sad

I'm an aussie, and down under we don't really do halloween, don't get me wrong, some do, but my family never has. Since I only really got into Wicca/Paganism early this year I haven't celebrated Halloween as a Sabbat before, but I'm gonna be going up to a mountain somewhere nearby for a Beltaine camp-out with my friends family, once I organise it blaugh

Well, Halloween's kind of a big deal here in the States - I'm even taking my dog to a doggie Halloween party! xp

It's nice having commercially endorsed holidays; it makes them so much easier to be celebrated secularly xd

Happy camping :3

Halloween is also called Samhain among Neo-Pagans. This year the Elodrym and friends are honoring our ancestors among the redwoods at a state forest. We'll be offering herbs, coins, or stones to the spirits. This time of year we also reflect on what habits we wish to "die" to so we'll be raising energy through chanting and drumming to help with this transformation.

I LOVE this time of year. Pumpkin pie, pumpkin spice latte's, chocolate. mmmm So glad my favorite holliday foods can be made with Splenda. heart

It's called "Samhain" among Celts.

Halloween is a secular, commercially endorsed American holiday than centers around dressing up in costumes and going door to door to get candy from strangers - it's a wonderful excuse to party.
I don't do this religiously, but some people have other holidays with different names that are religious - so I used the more general secular one.

This Elodrym? Who is included in "our"?

Why is this done on Halloween?

My whole family loves pumpkin pie. I kinda perfer pumpkin chocolate chip cookies, myself.
This year we're actually going to make a jack-o-lantern, so we'll get to have fresh roasted pumpkin seeds - I've never had any before x3
This is my second favorite holiday heart

Hope you know, I wasn't trying to correct you. Just add to the discussion. Here is a great article on Samhain if anyone is interested. http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Forum/7280/

"Our" meaning the people who are able to attend.

Why we release things at Halloween/Samhain. It follows the concept that each holiday effects our inner realities as well. Especially at Samhain when the veil between worlds is thinner. Death is a transformation in our views, not necessarily an end. So as we celebrate the event of death during this turn of the seasonal wheel, we reflect on the releasing of old habits and ways of thought. Hope that answered your question.

I love pumpkin seeds, too. What is your favorite holliday?

Im going to dress in pure black to school and be in a witch costume. Too bad we cant wear hats. Well anyway a bunch of people are going to freak because I am normally wearing pastel clothing. Hehe that will be fun.
My family doesnt do much except hand out candy and decorate the house. I am not sure if I will go trick or treating but I know for sure I am having another Gaia holiday.

Oh I love your outfit that you are wearing. The circle makes it look soo awesome.

I wonder if I should wear my pentagram necklace to school. I would have to take it off before she sees though.
