Shhh. The Whisper was thinking.

As Whisper sat and thought, she stared at one of the many ice crystals littering the cave. It was, in fact, the same cave that Anyu had shown her. She loved it; quiet, solitary, inspirational, it was now one of her favorite places, once she got over her fear of getting over those ice steps.

It was a very nice place to think.

Anyu was out the door before his mother could shout her usual farewell. He'd been held up in his room for days now, not wanting to irritate his father's unusually horrible mood. But luckily, the old man had left the village for business and he was able to get out on his mother's permission.

Sliding along the snow, he seemed much happier than usual. Every once in a while, a little laugh would echo from his frame as he slipped and nearly fell on a patch of ice.

Of course, it wasn't long before he quieted down, having to concentrate on his way across the floating ice chunks.

Slipping into the cave, he'd expected to be alone. It felt a long time since he'd seen Whisper. He was a bit surprised she remembered where this place was. Then again, he thought with a light smirk, he was more surprised she'd made it across the ice in one piece.

Crossing his arms idly, he watched her for a moment.

Whisper didn't seem to be fazed by the sudden intrusion on her tranquil solitude. Actually, she didn't appear to even realize someone was there.

Still staring blankly at the ice crystal in front of her, she slowly reached one hand out, and touched the tip.

"OW!" Okay, that was sharper than it looked. Whisper stuck the injured digit in her mouth, then looked around. Finally, she noticed Anyu.

Uhh..."Hi."

A questioning brow raised, but nothing more. Luckily, he'd been able to keep himself from laughing at her. Knowing enough about her from their first meeting, he wasn't sure how she would've taken it.

"Hey," he responded, arms falling to his sides as he moved further into the cave to join her. Of course, as generous as he'd been in holding his humor before, personality dictated he had to say something.

"Look out for those crystals," he muttered, holding back as much bite as possible. He couldn't really mock his siblings, as they were all older, and he'd been locked up forever, for heaven's sake! Besides, despite inner protests, he knew he'd feel bad making too much fun of his friend.

"I sort of figured that out by myself." A small smile cracked along her face. She knew he didn't mean to mock her. At least, she hoped he didn't.

She returned to her staring at the crystals.

"So. What brings you here?" she asked suddenly.

"Just wanted to get out of the house." Besides a slight shift of his feet, there was no other sign that he was full of annoying, pent-up energy. Following her gaze to the crystals, his eyes narrowed slightly at their strange, seemingly unnatural glow.

"Do you come here a lot?" He questioned, finally moving to sit against an almost crystal-less part of the wall. He idly poked a gloved finger against one of the formations.

Truthfully, he still felt a little uneasy that anyone else besides he and his brother knew of this place. But Whisper didn't seem to be bothering it at all, so...

Whisper hesitated before she gave the answer. "Yeah, I do." Then, in a rush, "You don't mind, do you?" She bit her lip worriedly. Maybe he was regretting showing the cave to her. Maybe he didn't even want to be her friend anymore. Maybe he wished he'd never even spoken to her that day. It wouldn't be the first time someone had done that. No one wanted to talk to someone who didn't like to talk back. Although, with Anyu, it wasn't as awkward.

He seriously thought for a moment, finger still poking at the ice. After a while, it grew stiff with the restricted movement and cold and he warily pulled his arm back to his form, rubbing his hands together.

"Nah," he answered, the same hand he'd just warmed warily rising to touch his necklace in habit. "Just curious."

For a while, he remained silent against the wall. His person seemed to soak up serenity, a thing he rarely felt. It was nice, he supposed.

"You didn't have any trouble getting across the ice?" He asked then, not meaning to sound mocking and not sure if he did sound so. Icy blue eyes left the crystals around them to look at her again.

Whisper cringed, reminding herself hastily that Anyu didn't mean it in as a satiricism. "No. It was a little scary the first few times, but after that I got used to it." Besides, it felt good to risk death sometimes.

Which reminded her.

"OMIGOD! Sasha said you were going to die!" Her overloud voice bounced around the cave, the echoes getting higher and higher in pitch as they went.

Closing his eyes once he'd recieved his answer, he sighed. Though he would be hard-pressed to admit such a thing, he'd been a bit worried knowing she'd come here alone. He remembered her falling when they'd come together. It had only been once, but-

"What?!" Eyes shooting open, he gawked at her incredulously for the longest time before he was able to calm. It wasn't so much the fact that Sasha said he was going to die. No, she'd told him that herself.

It was more that he'd been caught up in the moment.

Or maybe he was glad someone actually seemed worried he might die...

"Pfft." Finding that he'd shot forward, as well, Anyu leaned back against the ice once more. "That old bat doesn't know what she's talking about." He muttered, crossing his arms in a huff.

"She's not an old bat, Anyu!" Whisper cried, reeling in shock at the insult. "She's one of the best Waterbenders around, other than her brother I guess." Of course, she'd never met the brother, but if his sister was so powerful, what would he be like? "And she knows a lot about the world," she ended solemnly.

"I think you're a good bender, though," Whisper added softly, looking up. She hoped she hadn't changed his mind about being her friend after that little rant.

Anyu couldn't say he liked Sasha. No, not at all. But she was fun to pester, he tried to take that into account.

So Whisper had basically scolded him for disrespecting the teacher. He could handle it, he could. Still, he was just a child yet, and he wouldn't let his friend's "betrayal" go without something said in his defense.

Pulling his legs to his chest and setting his head on his knees, he pouted.

"I don't like her, she doesn't like me." He stated matter-of-factly. "And I don't care what she knows."

Though he still remained slightly pouty, his ego was given a good enough boost by her comment (despite the fact she'd told him many times before) and he stretched his legs back out.

"But...don't you want to learn bending?"
PostPosted: Sun Oct 15, 2006 7:58 pm

That question caught him off guard. Eyes narrowing at his feet, he shifted uncomfortably.

"It's not that..."

All his life, he'd told himself he didn't need anyone to teach him bending. That he could teach himself. But truthfully, he knew he couldn't. And he was afraid to admit it, even to Whisper.

And so, his bratty defense mechanism kicked in.

"It's that I don't need a teacher. I can teach myself." He proclaimed indignantly.

"But it'll go along a lot faster, and probably better, with a teacher," Whisper pointed out. Even as she as adomonishing Anyu, she felt a sinking feeling in her gut, which she tried to push away. This wasn't the same thing, she told herself. I don't want to learn Waterbending.
