It was midnight when the earthquake happened. Located somewhere north of Tokyo it still shook the capital and its surrounding areas at a lower five on the Japanese scale.
Ra had been sleeping, his eyes flying open at the very moment that it happened. Jumping out of bed he supported himself against the wall as the tremor starte to subside and headed for the door.
he wasn't reallythinking of what he was doing, only that he had to get to Obie, he had to make sure that she was all right. What if there was another tremor, or worse a full on quake. Reaching her door he knocked on the wood, hard.

Obie had cracked an eye as her bed began to shake and watched in confusion as a picture of her and Natasa danced across her shelf. Blinking the sleep away as the picture fell to the floor with a crash, she sat up when she suddenly realized what was going on.
"Ra," she mumbled, jumping up out of bed. She had to get to him. She knew he would be terrified and need her to be there for him. She grabbed a random sweater and jumped at the loud knock on her door as she slipped it on. Sweeping her hair out of her eyes she quickly went to it and pulled it open.
"Ne-chan," she said, reaching out for him.

As soon as the door was opened Ra stepped into the room and pulled Obie into a hug, breathing heavily. He felt as though he was being choked.
"Your all right." He said with a little relief as he hugged her tightly, feeling his breath starting to wheeze as the panic attack started to take control. "Quick." he said dragging her to the bathroom doorway and standing under the frame.
This was what they were supposed to do they would be safe here. His heart was still beating too fast and his breathing wouldn't calm down. Scared he looked down at Obie.
"I can't breathe he said as he slid to sit down on the floor.

Obie didn't have much time to react as she was dragged over towards the bathroom. She watched as he slid down to the floor and quickly knelt down with him. The terror in his eyes tore at her and she tried to clear the sleep and fear from her own mind to think properly. Reaching out, she put her hand against the side of his neck and could feel his erratic hearbeat as he gasped for air.
"Shh, Ra, it's okay love," she said, smoothing his hair out of his face, his skin felt clammy. "You need to take deep breaths," she said, reaching out for his hand and holding it against her chest. "Just breathe with me. It's okay love. It's over. You're safe," she said softly, watching him closely as she forced her own breathing to remain steady for him.

Feeling the slower beating of her heart he struggled to keep his breaths level and even.
"But what if it happens again?" He said urgently. "What if it's worse?" He asked holding her eyes with his.
"We have to go somewhere safe, or outside, or something."

Obie could hear people out in the hallways now and held his hand tightly. Keeping her eyes on his, she chewed on her lip as she thought of what might be best. She knew that personally, outside would probably be better for him, but she was not sure if physically it would be a good idea. She didn't like the look on his face or the way he was shaking.
"Baby, you have to calm down," she said a bit firmer. "It's going to be okay. It was just a tremor and we're safe right here. If you really want to go outside and think you can make it, then we will. But I promise that we'll be okay right here," she said, reaching out with her free hand to place it against his face.

Ra took a deep breath and placed his hand on top of hers.
"O.k, we can stay here." He said with a small nod. "I ... I just don't." He swallowed and closed his eyes for a moment as he tried to calm himself. "I don't want you to be like her." He said, opening his eyes and looking into hers. "Like my aunt."

Obie swallowed hard and moved to pull him against her. Resting her head against his, she began to run her fingers through his hair.
"I know love," she said softly. "But it won't be like that. I promise. I'm here, so nothing is going to happen. I'll bet there won't even be another tremor," she soothed, breathing deeply and slowly for him as if willing him to use her lungs to calm down.

Ra closed his eyes again breathing deeply as she rest her head against his. He stayed silent, focusing on her breathing and calming his it may have been minutes and it may have been close to an hour. When he finally felt as though he could open his eyes he looked at Obie and ran a hand up into her hair.
"Thank you." He said simply, leaning back against the doorframe.

Obie simply held him for as long as he needed, closing her eyes and stroking his hair gently.
"Shh, no thanks needed my love," she said softly with a small smile. She watched him for a moment and then slowly eased herself away. Getting up, she quickly went to her bed to pull the large comforter and pillow off. Returning to Ra's side she smiled again.
"Here you go love. You can lean back on this," she said, offering him the pillow and moving to lean against him so she could cover them with the blanket. "We'll stay here for a while until we're sure they're done. Okay?" she said, looking up at him.

"Okay." He said with a small nod wrapping his arms around her. Sighing he welcomed the warmth of the blanket. It felt safe and familiar.
"I really need to stop this. If I am going to be living here for a long time." He said with a small smile. "Say I was in the middle of an operation or something. I could hardly panic and run off."

Once she was finished fussing with the blanket, making sure it was tucked securely around them both, she shifted down to lay her head against his shoulder, resting her hand over his heart. She laughed softly at the scenario and closed her eyes to listen to his breathing.
"It will just take time Ne-chan," she said soothingly, rubbing his chest lightly. "You've come a long way already and this is the first major tremor I've felt since being here. "Do you think you will start having your nightmares again?"

"I hope not." He said nuzzling her hair lightly. He had been using alternative therapies to keep things at bay. Meditation, some herbal teas he had picked up on his travels. Hopefully they would continue to work.
"I haven't had a nightmare for a couple of years now. I really don't want them to start. Especially not with my workload."

Obie nodded and tilted her head back to press a soft kiss to the side of his neck. Despite the intensity of the night, she was rather glad to be curled up next to him. They had decided to spend a little less time together in order to maintain focus on their studies and she hadn't realized how much she had missed being curled up next to him at night until now.
"You know if they do, you can come to me. I'll leave my door unlocked so you can come in if you need to," she said, stifling a yawn as she put her head back down on his shoulder. "Do you want to talk about it love? Or would you rather just forget?" she asked softly.

Ra smiled and shrugged.
"I think talking about it helps sometimes." He said stroking her hair. "It's not good to bottle things up remember." He smirked, sighing and squeezing her lightly.
"What did my mother tell you? Everything, or just the basic facts. I know it is hard for her."
