Shade shook her mane sending sparks of flames dancing angrily amongst the crimped silk. She was singing in her german accent her voice oddly ratehr angelic for the dark apperance that hung about her body. Flaring her opaque wings that shimmered with blue sparkles the mare stretched herself as her glowing eyes scanned the horizon.

Followed by her butterfly friends, Nalani made her way across the open fields. The sun was setting and she wanted to reach her secret sleeping place before darkness fell. The butterflies began to flutter around wildly and she wondered why. The mare caught a glimpse of a figure from the corner of her sky-blue eyes. It was a Kalona! She had heard many stories about them and how they are nothing but trouble. Nalani didn't know if she should turn and run. Instead, the butterfly-winged alicorn stood her ground.

Shade's ears twitched when she heard the hoofbeats, her singing stopped at that moment and she turned to stare at the female. The flutter was a pretty young thang as far as it goes. She looked like a kind one porbably never having seen hardship in her life.

She began to worry as the kalona stopped her singing to stare at her. Not wanting to seem like a threat, Nalani took a step back and lowered her head. Her ears were faced sideways, not flattened. She was trying to show the other female that she didn't mean any harm. Nalani whinnied softly to the mare, afraid that if she spoke too loudly that the kalona would take it offensively.

Shade oddly felt a warming in the frozen pits of her soul for the little mare and let out a kind whicker in greeting back, "you don't have to fear me child i shant harm you." She shook her mane sending sparks flying before turning and slowly wondering slowly twoards the flutter.
"Greeting and good day to you child i'm NightShade it's a pleasure to meet you." The mare titled her head the glow in her eyes softened alittle for this mare.

Every tensed muscle in her body seemed to relax at the sound of the kalona's kind assurance. Nalani raised her head slowly and smiled innocently at the sapphire-haired mare. "It's a pleasure meeting you as well, NightShade. I am Nalani." She bowed politely knowing that the mare meant her no harm. The stories she had heard didn't seem to matter anymore. This kalona was far different then any other. Nalani was happy that she encountered her instead of the actual evil ones.

"It's a pleasure Nalani, what brings you out so close to nightfall? The world isn't a safe place once the sun tucks itself safelly bellow the horizon." She stood like a living statue of the finest marble her coat shimmering softly under the dimineshing sunlight.

"I had rested by the stream after exploring the beautiful land here and I was just on my way home when I came upon you. Never have I met a kalona before, you are the first. There are many stories of how evil kalonas can be, but you have proved them wrong." Nalani smiled at the shimmering mare. She couldn't wait to tell her friends that she encountered a kalona and one as elegant as Nightshade.

She gave a laugh "Ah but many are quiet evil. always be wary of a kalona my dear." She looked around watching the sun sink beneath the horizon. "Where are you headed, you just may be going in the direction that i am," she titled her head slightly pricking her ears.

Surprised at the kalona's request, she smiled. "Of course not. It'll be a pleasure if you came along." Nalani slowly turned in the direction towards the beach. "Come on, follow me. I know you'll love it. The sea is beautiful, especially in the moonlight." Shaking her brown wavy mane, the mare took off in a steady trot.

She laughed and folloed behind her own mane, that wasn't bound in braids, rippling against her slinder ebony nack. She folded her wings down so that she didn't have the extra drag slowing her down, her horns gleamed like daggers in the moonlight.

The sun had finally set and the only light was that of the moon. Going through the forest at a trot in the darkness wasn't very easy for her. She had to be aware of the many branches and roots on the ground so she didn't trip and hurt herself. Something glowed in the darkness, Nalani strained her eyes to see what it was. It was a group of fireflies a few feet ahead of her. The seemed to be leading her, lighting her way out of the dark forest. She looked back to make sure the kalona didn't get lost or had any trouble following her. "Hey, you ok back there?"
