Does anyone know how to make anointing oil instead of buying it? The New Age store here doesn't have any... or at least I didn't see any when I was there today. (I would've asked the lady that owns the place, but all the incense was bothering my boyfriend, so I paid for my stuff so we could leave.) And I can't order any from the internet, so I was going to try to make my own.

Disscusion:
Anything related to oils! (and how to make them, please?)

As far as I know, all you need to do is get the herbs and scents of your choice, and mix with some oil. sweatdrop

Just experiment, I suppose...

Here's a link that you may find useful though. ^^

I read in a book somewhere about how to make one... I think it said something about cheesecloth. I don't have a clue where to buy it though.

I think your right. To make strong essential oils takes a long distilling process but just some olive oil and some crushed herbs or something should work ok, even better if you can pick the herbs and flowers fresh, after all it's the power of the plant that you are after.

If you want to annoint something with a strong scent like lavender you could always try rubbing the plant directly onto the candle or whatever. I'm quite lucky as essential oils are readily available over here from magick shops, health food stores and pharmacies.

So I could just get some oil and then put some dried lavendar or roses in it and it would work ok? I have a lot of dried rose petals and we have a lavender plant out back. I need it for my self dedication which I'm planning to do on Samhain....

Come to think of it, I think she did have some in her store... but I won't be able to go back there in time to get it (she's only open on the weekends). I'd much rather make my own anyway.

The book I have that tells you how to make to make them uses mint and it takes like 3 days to make. I don't really want to use mint though. So maybe the same process would work with the dried roses or lavender?

I suggest trying it.
But don't try it on a huge batch, so if the oil comes out like crap, you ruined a whole lot of oil.

My mother used to make Ognjič oil (couldn't find the word in the dictionary, it's probably dialect...) which is good for sunburns and such by taking the ognjič petals, fresh after picking, putting them in a jar of oil (sunflower seed's oil usually) and leave them in the sun for a few days. The ognjič coloured the oil red, when I was little and I played cooking in the mud outside I'd use ognjič petals in water to make pretend wine or juice or soup or something red. razz

But that's all I know.
