yes, i love weapons. but that's besides the point. the star wars weapons are mostly heavily modified real-world weapons, mostly from WW2. i have a fun time finding and recognizing them. see how many you can spot, and put your findings here. here's what i found (pictures where available): Han's blaster is the classic WWI-era P96 (heavily modified)

I also believe modified hand tools can be acounted for as lightsabers. like an old style flashlight.

Luke's and Vader's sabers in Ep. IV were actually dressed up camera flashes - the professional photographer's umbrella type flashes, without, of course, the umbrella.

you can see right down to the bulb in obi-wan's when he's fighting vader..
and btw, the M79 was used only from Boba's gun in Empire. he seems to used a pistol with a lengthened/vaned/widened barrel and a stock in jedi, but i can't get any good pics to figure out exactly what it is.

Nospai Deathous they did actually put lightbulbs in the original ones.. They are bulbs, BUT have special gasses and chemicals added in the glass tube, which make the actual flourescence.

I heard a story once about two morons who tried to make a mock lightsaber battle and used those long light bulbs and filled them with some concoction they made to make them glow, but the bulbs smashed when the cracked them together the, got cut up from the glass and they burned themselves on their glow stuff. I only heard it in passing so the facts may not exactly line up, but while we were on the subject of lightbulbs I thought I would share this story.

the new ones do, but not the old ones. the old ones were rods covered in shiny tape and colorized. they had lightbulbs down in the handle to reflect out the top, too.
that story belongs in Darwin Awards, if it's true.
