got any annoying things that japanophiles say you know is just stupid? post it here and i may debunk it.

I seriously hate it when I wear a bracelet with an anime character on it and these dorks come up to me and be like. "O-M-G (they actually say the letters) THAT'S KII-YO RIGHT? I LOVE HIM! WHO'S YOUR FAVE CHARACTER? I LIKE YUKI BETTER!", and they pronounce Kyo like Kii-yo. burning_eyes
Or when they're like "I like to draw anime. I can draw him pretty good." And they hold up this picture that looks like a five-year-old did it.
And all those 'How-to-draw-manga books that are like...Ever seen that Kappa Mikey show? Total stereotyped anime that is so ugly, it's not even funny.

You mean pronouncing whats written in katakana in japanese? yes it is. because if you say an obvious english word thats been borrowed in ENGLISH, People will say what a show off or that sounds dumb.

unless i dont get what you mean. because we suck at pronouncing english, and most thing like sailor moon (see raa muun) are in katakana(or english with katakana).

Yes, understandable due to pronunciation. But it's worse when people who know English type it like that to look cool, because there are lots of translations on even Japanese merchandise that says "Sailor Moon".

That's basically what I was saying though, you got it: it's dumb to show off and use katakana pronunciations if you actually know English and it's a word meant to be in English.

ahhh, you mean she was saying you HAVE to use katakana? thats really dumb. japanese would be messed up eith out english (we are taught the english alphabet to pronounce letters differently, and the names are said different to)

stpid japanophiles i cant stand them i love the japanese culture i watch very few anime and i read only a few manga that i like. i absolutely hate naruto i hate it with a passion and i hate the anime club at my school becuase its full of loosers who think anime is the best thing ever and thats how japan really is

In my Civics class my friend, CASEY (she failed French and totally lied saying she got a 92% when I saw her work and I gave her the answers, she could barely talk, she was horrible and her plays eek kill me! 10 minutes long with mumblings of them trying to remember lines and words... sad I died listening to it. And she annoys me because she's a snob but she isn't that smart. Japanophile!)

Anyways, she and this group of people like anime. Now, don't get me wrong, I love it, but I haven't bought any since August 18th, I have too much to do (school, work, clubs, yearbook, Japanese review) that I can't buy any. But with what I have, I watch and review kanji because it's easier for me.

Anyways, she came to school and in our CAF period she said I know how to write "tree spirit" in Japanese. And then she wrote 木. My Japanese is not the best but I know that that means "tree, wood" not tree spirit. I told her this and she said I was wrong. I said no I'm not, first of all this is from Naruto I can bet (they're obsessed with it). Anyways, she said it can mean that and I said "With a few more kanji it is that!"

Then she says her favourite name is: "SAKURA" and she spells it in Katakana. No problem there, Kanji, Hiragana, Katakana it's a name. But HOW she wrote it made we want to scream. She wrote it, and I'm sure of it cuz my best friend loves Naruto and so the little video's she asked me to put on her profile let me see it. And the pink haired girl, Sakura, her head thing said something but it said sakura in scribbled, hand-written katakana. But I noticed Casey wrote it the SAME way... and I wanted to say, there is no EXAGERATED squiggle of the "ra" it's a line and then a line with a curve (you know what I mean though). So I thought... otaku.

My other friend and I HAD retarded fight. we're better but she said things that made me KNOW she is a japanophile.

Anyways... I think most of us here wanted to learn Japanese and was introduced by anime at some point. Me it was Inuyasha BUT I liked the songs, bought the CDs, then I bought J-Pop and I couldn't read the lyrics and I started learning it, then I bought a book on Japan, grew intertested, and now I'd like to see what it's about. That's why I am learning Japanese, because it's fun and I can use it if I go to Japan.


But it does annoy me when people use anime as an excuse and say they know Japanese... it's sad sad

Same! I forgot that but one thing I don't want to be called is an OTAKU. sad I learned it's REALLY bad and it's worse than nerd. And apparently this guy in Japan killed 4 young girls and so they called him OTAKU and so being an otaku is really bad.
