Oh dear! Of all the many things she had anticipated herself doing, Cassidy had never imagined she’d end up like this. It had been only a year ago that she’d been just an adolescent, scrabbling to her uncle Phib for any kind of attention and protection she could find. Now she was satiated- and surprisingly, she was happy. Sure- she had a habit of not doing what she was told. Or asked. Or implied. And for that, Phib had probably been on her back more then- SIGH!

The brown wolf paced, the end of her tail slowly swaying as she did. She knew what it was though. There was no denying it. Nature itself wouldn’t let her deny it. But even if it had been quieted- her mother had had enough litters for her to know all about pregancy.

Pregnancy for Jenna lasted three acts. First act- she told Jaden, her mate. Second act- they fought. More often then not, there was a question as to whether or not Jaden was the father. She had never understood why Jenna strayed. Was it because Jaden strayed? And if they both strayed, who started it? But they fought, bitterly, because despite the fact that they ran off with other wolves to spend their nights with, they honestly did love one another. It was irony in it’s best. He demanded to know if he was the father, and she shot back about some new female’s litter, or another. [Havn’t I seen your eyes in the pups of Kealie?]

Third act- they took the fight to Phib, who usually wanted nothing to do with it. Cassidy had never understood why, of all then men she chased after, Phib had never been one of them. Maybe it was too close to the family. But by the time the fighting was finished, the pups were do, and everyone in the pack was so sick of the domestic dispute that no one spoke of it again.

This- was what Cassidy related to pregnancy.

With a suck of air into her throat, she shot her neck up and arced her tail. Well! Wrigley should know, after all! Although she was a bit confused on how to tell him. She hadn’t been with any other males, so it wasn’t like they could argue over who the father was... and that left her confused.

The white overly poofed male was padding about the area he had last seen Cassidy. Being a guard allowed him to spend many hours of the day alongside her, stay with her, talk, that sort of thing. Cassidy was his saving grace, she made him feel like he had a home. That there was somewhere for him to be besides the home he had left behind him.

Where was she though?

Something was upon the wind. A fortune untold. What could it be? He wished to find her soon, he wanted to see ehr smile for him again today. He loved her, he knew it. Though he was a bit nervous of spending so much time with her (not that he didn't love it and her) but he wondered what phib might do to him if he knew how much he cared for Cassidy.

How much time they had spent together.

Where was she? Flicking his curled tail to the side he continued along, he caught her scent, but couldn't pinpoint it because of the breeze that swept through the trees.

"Cassidy? Where are you?" he called out, tucked behind his ear was a single white flower he had found on his way around the borders, he thought she would like it. It was so beautiful and unqiue, just like her.

Cassidy’s ears perked, as the now familiar sound of her mate’s voice caught her ears. She hesitated for a moment- breathing in what strength and determination she could inhale from the wind, and promptly spun around, holding her tail high. Well- as high as she dared, in any case. Mother had always looked like this whenever she announced a new pregnancy to Jaden.

Stoically she trudged off towards Wrigley, mentally preparing herself for the conversation at hand. She certainly had the appearance of being bold- but after approaching him at a closer range, and catching sight of the white flower held in his mouth, she faltered.

The truth was- Wrigley was nothing like her father, and she wasn’t really anything like her mother. But what did that mean?

Flushing, and losing the stalwart appearance and swagger, she lowered her ears and stumbled down the rock, whining softly and wagging her tail. “Wrigley-“ She started, but couldn’t find words to continue past that.

His heart was bright today, he had no idea why...no, wait, yes he did. He had day dreamed of bringing the flower back to Cassidy ever since he found it. He couldn't wait to give it to her. When he caught ehr scent being closer, his slightly curled tail wagged even more.

When his brown hues met her form he felt a warmth over his form, Cassidy was so beautiful in his eyes, he couldn't help but love her so much. Hearing her speak his name was just the boost he needed to get by each day. "Cassidy, look what I found for you..."

He padded up to her nad nuzzled her cheek before placing the flower at her paws, something was about her...but he couldn't tell what. "I found it today, it reminded me of you...so unique, so beautiful...I couldn't let it go without you seeing it..." he felt like Cassidy had somehting to say. Or perhaps he was just dreaming it?

No matter, he was with her now, which was what mattered to him.

Cassidy stood still as Wrigley greeted her, gently rubbing his face against hers, as her eyes kept themselves steady upon the flower. What if he wasn’t happy? She didn’t know how to deal with that. She didn’t know if she could argue like her mother had, or even be half as strong as her mother was. It made her quiver, and with a whimper, she turned her head away from Wrigley.

It was probably making her seem unappreciative. And she didn’t mean to be- the flower was beautiful, and she wanted to pick it up and glee over it. But she could not muster glee in her- all that absorbed her was the fact that in any minute she’d have to tell him.

Would he be happy? She hoped so... she needed him to be happy. She thought she was... but now it was hard to say.

“Wrigley-“ She started, lowering her eyes. “-I think I am pregnant.”

Wrigley warm deep brown eyes watched Cassidy as she seemed uneasy. Did he do something wrong? Did she not like the flower...what if she was allergic to it or something! He was scarmbling for an expelantion for why she seemed strange, his tail curling around one of his legs when she whimpered, his ears falling back.

Why did he make her sad?

"Did I do something wrong?" he asked, almost quietly in a whisper, he didn't want her mad at him, he never wanted her mad at him. His mind was racing over what he could've done to upset her, leaving at a certain time, wandering off, not getting enough food...what did he do?

He watched as she lowered her eyes, tilting his head he watched her and listened to her speak...still listening...wait, what? His tail started to wag behind him, ears perking up, she might be...she might be pregnant?! Wrigley had to restrain himself from jumping around for joy, he had always wanted a family!

He got closer to her, and tipped her chin up with his nose and smiled at her warmly, he was so happy he didn't quite know how to express it, "Thats so wonderful Cassidy, I promise I'll do anything you want me to do for you..." his left back leg was shaking with excitement, this was too good to be true. To have a family with the wolfess he loved the most. He nuzzled her cheek and smiled, this was perhaps one of the best days of his life, right up there with first meeting Cassidy...life was seeming perfect to the white male.

Then a thought came to his mind, why did she seem unhappy about it, and had she told Phib yet? "Were you worried?" he asked shootingly, guessing that had to be it, "You don't have to worry Cassidy, I'll take care of you, I love you, and always will." the thought came to his mind again, "Have you said anything to Phib yet?"

Cassidy’s eyes widened as he rubbed against her. “You-you will?” She gasped. Oh, crap. She hadn’t wanted to sound so surprised! “I mean- I didn’t doubt you, but...” she paused and lowered her eyes. “Oh, Wrigley- I don’t know how to be a mother! I can sort of baby kids, I mean, that can’t be that hard, but mothering- I don’t know much about....” She was hushed as he nuzzled her again, and slowly she wagged her tail.

“I’m...” She was half speechless with love, and rested her head against his chest. “I don’t know what to say. Oh- gods. Phib, I haven’t-“ She gaped. “He doesn’t know. Oh- he’ll be so grouchy!” She half wailed, and half chuckled.

“But, the babies–“ She spoke in a half whisper. “I feel them- I mean, they’re there!”

Wrigley smiled warmly at her, love in his dark brown eyes, "Of course I will, you're the only one I have close to me, the only one I love, my only family, I will take care of you always Cassidy, I'll take care of you and them..." he said referring to the unborn pups. He couldn't wait to see what they looked like.

Truth be told he was a bit worried about himself being a good father, he hoped he would be, he was always cautious, remembered everything his parents told him. It was sort of depressing to the white wolf when he realized his parents would never see what their grandpups would look like. Who Wrigley took as his mate, who he loved.

"It's alright, we'll both go tell him if you'd like, maybe he'll be grouchy now, but it will were off," least thats what he hoped. Wrigley also hoped Phib would not kill him either. "Feel them?" he tilted his head to the side, blinking once or twice, they were already that far along that she could feel them? He had to get something ready for her!

He curled his tail around her and nuzzled her again, "Then I'll start getting things ready, I'll make the den comfortable for you..." he would do that, find a good supply of food, what else...water! Yes, perhaps he could dig a dip in the earth to bring water to the front of the den entrance, yes, that would be good.

He would take care of her.

Cassidy gave a soft sigh as Wrigley reassured her. How had she ever ended up with someone like him? When she had been young, she had hoped to just crawl her way to her uncle and spend the rest of her time working [which she had subsequently done less and less of] her way up. But when she had gotten to the pack- she found herself aloof. She couldn’t focus. She had no drive to be leader, particularly with such other beautiful and powerful females in the group. Like Mozelle- if only she was like Mozelle! But... Wrigley hadn’t mated Mozelle–

It made her heart flutter, and she pressed against him one more. “Thankyou, Wrigley... For everything, I mean. I don’t know much about children... but I think you will be a wonderful father... Oh, I suppose we should tell him-“ She sighed, and glanced to the side.

“I think Amélie knows already.” She noted softly. “But I don’t think she told him...” She leaned forward slowly, the end of her golden flanked tail swaying gently. Last time she had seen her uncle, he was lazying around by the rockside.

"I think they'll be by the beach."

He smiled at her, and nuzzled her and made a soft type of growling noise in his throat, like a wolf's purr. She was thanking him? "Cassidy, I shoudl be thankful of you, I had no where to go...I didn't know anyone, but you were different...you made me feel at home..." it was mushy but that was ok, Wrigley loved Cassidy with every fiber of his being.

"Then we should go find him, you and I, side by side, it'll be fine," he said smirking a bit, "besides, if not, i'll throw some water on him," he said almost laughing, Phib didn't seem to like wetness very much, that much Wrigley knew.

"SO shall we go then?" Wrigley said standing up, stretching, and holding a paw out like a gentlemen would bow and outstretch his hand for a dance. This was going to be fun...and interesting.

Cassidy didn’t mind the mush. No one had ever said kind words to her quite like Wrigley had. Her family wasn’t exactly the most loving of families- and she appreciated all the words greatly. She could not think of a better man to be the father of her children...

At his comment she laughed, and shook off the sentimental feelings. “He wouldn’t like that much.” Honestly, she had no idea how he would react to pups. In the old country they’d been allowed to have pups on a rolling basis. But then, there had been a lot of wolves in that pack. There were certainly a lot in this one, but...

She leaned against his shoulder and smiled, wagging the end of his tail. “Alright, let’s go.”

Somewhere five minutes and some seconds later, Phib was attempting to micromanage the den situation for the winter. Last time they had all been able to fit easily into a small cave- but then, they had only numbered four. Now they were fifty, and there would need to be quite a bit of accommodations made. Although Cassidy had originally placed him by the beach- he had moved on somewhat to the inner coast, and found himself stalking amongst the brightly colored leaves.

Wrigley snuggled her a bit and growled in a soft fashion, yes, things would be fine, if not Wrigley would find some way to make everything right. Everything had to be right, Cassidy had to be comfortable and treated even better then before. He'd do everything, make sure everything was ok and would be okay.

Even if that meant getting on phib's bad side if he reacted poorly at all.

He walked with Cassidy, trying to sniff out Phib's position, but he couldn't pick it up, not even among the wind that carried teh stench of the sea that he ahd grown so used too, "Are you sure he would be by the sea? Anywhere else he might be? Or perhaps, we should call for him?"

“I think you are right.” Cassidy spoke hesitantly, and swallowed. Oh! What would she say about this? With a shy voice she gently rose her muzzle and called into the air. It trilled and dimly shattered across the afternoon- and it was loud enough to alert just about everyone in the pack that she was looking for the alpha.

Something which begrudgingly, Phib answered- having not actually been all that far away. He showed up about a minute later, his tail quirked off side, and a steady fixed expression glued on his face. It was the expression someone had about two seconds before a displeased sigh- and Cassidy furrowed her brow at it. Why was he so rough with her? Was it because of her mother? Or just the leftovers of what he spread to Gareth? Poor Gareth.

“Phib-“ She started, but her voice caught. Phib must have noticed the off kilter tone, because he dropped the look and lifted his head.

“Hello Cassidy, Wrigley.” Phib spoke, the crown of his head bobbing once

Wrigley offered Cassidy a warm and calming smile, trying to tell her not to worry without words. His tail was swaying back and forth steadily, the slightly curled tip flicking back adn forth as he did so. He listened as Cassidy called for Phib, and he came so soon! It was...surprising, the say the least.

He lowered his head in a bow of acknowledging Phib as Phib gave him notice, a smile still upon his maw. "Afternoon Phib," he said with enthusiasm, he better tone it down. He jsut realized, that this could turn out for the worst, if Phib did not approve. Wrigley stood next to Cassidy though, he seemed to have puffed his chest out, but it was only his fur that fluffed him up.

"We have something to tell you...good news," he said almost dancing on his toes. But he couldn't look like a fool in front of Phib, that would do him no good, no good at all. He peered towards Cassidy, tail still swaying, "Would you like me to tell him or would you rather?"

Phib blinked once and swayed. Good news? He didn’t like good news he didn’t receive a memo about at least two weeks in advance. He hadn’t been given ample time to worry about it yet. But the nervous smile that crossed Cassidy’s face calmed him for the moment, and he kept his mouth shut except to indicate he was listening.

Cassidy wriggled and rested her head against her lover’s shoulder, and inhaled slowly. She wanted to have Wrigley tell him. But she knew Phib would only look at her and wonder why she could not tell him herself. There was an oddness between them- and it always made Cassidy wonder what the relationship had really been between Jenna and the old king.

“Wrigley and I are going to be parents.” She finally resolved in scarcely a breath. She hadn’t realized she had shut her eyes until she was forced to open them. “I’m pregnant.”

Phib paused considerately and shifted his ears. It wasn’t the first time pups had been born in the pack- but at most, it was the second, and it was still a rather new occurrence. He wasn’t sure quite what to say at first. He wasn’t angry- although he had wished they’d perhaps timed it better so they would not have children during winter.

And for once, he was lost at words. His head moved to say something before he noticeably stopped himself, and considered his words. “Children?” He finally said. “Your mother would have been proud. Make sure to den inland.” He found it was about all he could say at the moment as he slowly considered. Ah- Jenna would miss it, wouldn’t she?
