I have gone to one anime con this year, Anime Central. I cosplayed, too. xD; I'm not the geeky type otaku, I just enjoy reading manga, and watching some anime now and then. Usually the stuff that not everyone in the universe has heard of (Like Naruto, no offence >_>)

You'd end up doing a lot of killing then... Naruto cosplayers are everywhere. stare Actually, my very first cosplay was Hinata from Naruto because the costume was very easy to make. I still wear the jacket every now and then too.
My more recent cosplays have been more obscure though - Yuli from Pop'n Music and Sheila from Mahou Shoujotai Alice. I've only ever been to Anime Boston (went all four years it's been in existence), but I've enjoyed it every time moreso than the last. It just makes me feel very old because many of the attendants are so young. And I'm only just out of college, you know!
BTW, I.... wouldn't really consider this to fall under the topic of 'Japanese Popculture', since American anime cons have very little to do with Japanese pop culture. I guess I could always bring up Comic Market though! World's largest doujinshi/comic convention, held twice a year at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center. I've gone there the past two summers and enjoyed myself immensely both times. Quite different from an anime con, even though the convention is anime/game-centered.

I've only been to AX for about 1-2 days. I do not cosplay there. All I do is watch anime on the screen or go shopping in the huge exhibition centre. Though I've also gotten close to watching a performance by KOTOKO.

I've gone to Kumoricon for 2 years (it's REALLY close for me). I've gone to Sakuracon once, and will be this coming year. (Tomoyo hime - Tsubasa Chronicles) keep in mind: I was exposed to naruto when it was FIRST released (In Japan) I've lost a lot of intrest in it since they've had an full freakn' year of filler episodes and since it's becoem *shudder* Americanized.

I went to AFWCon last Summer and this summer I'm going with a friend. I've never cosplayed before XD mainly because I'd only cosplay if I was with friends =/, Yeah I do hate how they "Americanized" Naruto into something that 3-5 graders watch on a daily basis.

oh 1. thing i want say is i am not an Otaku for sure, but i dont like when people speak like otaku is somethin bad, i dont think so and also "nerd" people are in my eyes cool not uncool, they just do what they want, they dont care what others say and they dont copy others, thats really cool in my eyes ^^ .. so i like anime and cosplay but i think many cosplayer dont care that they look cute or beautyfull in there costumes ^^; i saw so much, they just want be an anime character they like, but it doesnt sweats them haha i dont know why they do this :/ for me cosplay have the sense to be like in another world, to hide ur real face.. thats my personaly sense of cosplay.. so i dont like to cosplay as a character which exist in a manga/anime i prefer (goth)doll cosplay just to see urself as an object of art ^^ i also love the typical maid, nekkoko, yousei, hime and so on costumes hehe but to find ur own way how u want look is more fun as to copy an character i think hehe heart

I haven't been to one, but I am going to MTAC 2007 in a few months. I am in the Mini Skirt Army (A Roy Mustang/Travis Willingham fan club) and I am Skirt #2, so I am going with a lot of the skirts. But I will be cosplaying in my Lulu outfit(FFX) and I won't be pregnantxD(Maybe you guys get that?;- wink

I'm going to AnimeBoston this year ^^ A bunch of my friends want me to cosplay, so I'll probably go as Kiki from Kiki's Delivery Service. The costume is easy, and I can't sew razz Plus, I'd rather make a costume than buy one online.
