Although it had only been a few short days since the incident at the cliffsides, the dark stallion found himself missing the company of his two female friends... one in particular, he thought with a small grin, stopping to lean against a tree as golden eyes glazed over. It had taken him a long time to come to terms with what he was feeling, but there was little doubt in his heart about it. He would tell her soon, he resolved to himself.
He continued on down his path, his steps hindered by a slight limp, although barely noticeable. He'd bruised his legs pretty badly with that reckless jump... but he'd made it.

"April roses...Tiny sparrows..." The sky blue mare's voice carried over the lands as she sang to her bloated stomach. She was getting more used to the idea of being a mother, not that she had any choice. A heavy sigh escaped her mouth as her singing stopped. "What have I done?" She asked her self sadly. As she looked down she saw her swelled belly and couldn't help but feel proud. She'd work hard to treat her foals right, better then her mother had.

A light melody drifting through the air made his furry ears twitch, a smile slowly adorning his features as he turned to face the azure mare that had been the object of his thoughts for quite some time. When golden hues finally fell upon her slightly larger form, however, settling upon her swelling stomach, a heavy weight began to press down upon him, and he suddenly found it hard to swallow, hard to breathe. It couldn't really be what it looked like... could it? Had she gotten tired of waiting for his confession and gone off to start a family with someone else?
Someone else... those words put a bitter taste in his mouth, made a hurt so deep that it was almost a physical ache settle itself into his chest. She was starting a family, and it wasn't with him.

A disturbance settled around the young mare. A little angered at the unpleasent feelings swirling about she raised her head ready to snap. She froze seeing who it was and couldn't feel happier. "Shadow!!!" She cried climbing to her feet much slower then usual. She moved closer to him, foot steps light as ever. "I'm glad to see you, I was afraid that jump may have broken you."
As she spoke she failed to notice the look on his face. In fact, for a moent, she even forgot she was pregnant. For a moment she was back in the cave before Myoa had arived, after the thunder had scared her. For a moment, she was free again. Not burdened by such a heavy load.

The stricken look on his face lasted a few more moments before he finally found the motivation to cover it with a watery smile, dipping his head in a smaller, less enthusiastic version of the dramatic bow he usually offererd to her. Was this what it was like to have your heart broken? He'd always heard older stallions warning him that mares were trouble, but he never imagined it led to a pain as great as this. It felt like he was dying, and for a few moments, he even wished that were the case.
He managed a few deep breaths before he trusted himself to speak without his voice cracking, and it was softer than usual even as it shook. "Hello, miss Luna, you're looking as radiant as ever." God, it hurt so much to say that. She had a happy glow about her that only added to her beauty, but it hurt him to the core to know that it had been someone else to put that there... someone else that made her smile like she did.

Something was up. She could feel it, even taste it in a way. "Sh-shadow?" She asked, her voice quivering a bit as though she were about to cry. "Are...you all right?" She looked to his legs worridly fearing that he may have hurt himself badly. She took a step closer to investigate but at the sudden movement a wave of dizzyness swept over her and she was pulled forcefully out of her dream.
Crystal eyes widened as she looked down at her stomach and suddenly his shocked face made sense. "I...meant to tell you...I'm..." she paused, there was really only one way to say it. "I'm going to have babies!"

He'd thought she'd felt the same way... how could he have been so horribly wrong? Maybe she thought of him as a brother... the thought was a little comforting, at least. He could have her friendship, if nothing else. He forced his smile to widen, although it hurt, and found himself blinking rapidly. "I can see that. Congratulations, miss Luna, you'll make a wonderful mother."

"I hope so..." she murmered shifting about the ground under her foreleg. Hearing so many say that made her feel a bit better but still she worried. "I don't really know though...I mean...when you...ya know...it's something that's meant to happen but this..." She shuffled around it bit more. It was a bit odd, she felt safe to tell to him what she feared even telling her sister.

He had to wonder what would have happened if he'd actually gone through with telling her... would he have sounded as much like a fool as he felt? "Don't worry, miss Luna, I'm sure your foals will love you and their... father," he assured her unsteadily. He wished the earth would simply swallow him up then, perhaps it would distract him from the heartache.

Her eyes watered a little bit, the look on his face, the feel of his energy. This was hurting him, wasn't it? "Shadow..."Her voice sounded far younger then she was as she glanced down to her stomach. She wished she could just turn back the hands of time. Go back to that night and smash the bottle before any of this had happened.
Unfortunatly there was no way. All she could do now was wait for the foals. Hope that they loved her and hope that everything would continue as if it hadn't happened. "It's not...fair..."She whispered closing her eyes half way. What wasn't fair though? Her answer, the world.

Who was he to interfere in her own affairs? He wouldn't get in the way of her happiness... that was the last thing he wanted. If she was going to start a family, he would step back and watch, no matter how much it hurt. "I wish you... the best of luck with your family, miss Luna. I'm sure your foals will be beautiful, like their mother." That said, he took a hesitant step back and turned to leave, head hanging low, and golden eyes dim.

"Sh-shadow?" She called after him. He was leaving? When she needed him the most he was leaving her? "P-please...don't leave..." She couldn't hold it anymore, silent tears started streaming down her face. She felt so pathetic, standing there, calling for attention it seemed. Why did every meeting with this stallion seem to bring tears to her eyes. Why did they bring pain to her heart? Why was he just going to leave her?!

As much as he was hurting, the sound of her tearful voice broke his heart even further than it already was, and he halted abruptly, forcing a smile as he turned to face her. "All right, miss Luna, I'll stay with you." He could never deny her anything, as much as it pained him to stay. He took a deep, shaky breath as he approached her side to support her as he motioned to her previous resting place with a toss of his head. "Let's lay down, you shouldn't be standing too long like this."

Despite her tears she managed to smile a bit at him. "You will...?" She took in a shakey breath trying to halt the tears but it didn't seem to work. Giving up on her attempts she slowly lay back down to rest. She was glad Shadow had said it, she had been getting very tired but she didn't want to be rude. She raised her blurred gaze to Shadow to see what he was doing but found she couldn't face him long. It just made her far to sad.
