I've noticed that the candle that I use to represent the Goddess always has the biggest flame (it's always at least 2 inches high, maybe 3) while all the other candles I use (my alter candle, the one to represent the God, and the ones I use for the four quarters) never even reach 1 inch. It also burns more (it's still got about 3/4 left and I've only used the candles 3 times while all the other ones are pretty much still as they were when I bought them). I don't know if it's just the candle or what. What do you guys think?
Questions: 1. What do you think about this? 2. What's your favorite scented candle? 3. Anything else about candles that you want to add....

I love candles, probably because i love fire in general but i use candles alot and love to fall asleep to the light of fire. Scented candles are good to because they can set an atmosphere, which help with things like meditation. Ive also found that with my candles, the one on the left always burns brighter and longer than the one on the right, and since femine is represented by the left it kinda complies with your goddess candle

Personally, I can't stand scented candles. >_< I think they smell tacky, and somewhat cheap. ...and clash with the incense. xd
Yes, my Goddess candle also burns quite bright - but so does the God candle, and fire. I'm not sure what's causing it - but maybe you've got a good bond with the Lady. 3nodding
As for the third option - keep your candle stocks up high. They go down quick. >_< Try and get as much symbolism as you can - choose your candles as part of the spell writing. We've got a great colour correspondence guide in the academy - I refer to it often.
Also, try and keep spell candles seperate from your "feel good" candles.
...and always consecrate your candles. If you're using a banishing spell, annoint the oil by starting in the middle, going to the top, then stop. Go from the middle again, go to the end. For added effect, after you've finished using it bury it away from your home. Vice versa, for a spell that's bringing stuff towards you, annoint the oil by starting from the top, going to the middle, stop. Go from the bottom, to the middle. Then for the extra 'oomph', bury it close to your house.

I love candles for relaxation and spell work. I find my most effective candle spells occur when I have made the candle myself, as it is all a part of the spell process. They are quite easy to make, you can make them exactly the colour that you need and can add scents and objects to your own specification. If you can it's something that I would recommend everyone try! 3nodding

Ooooh... I'm intrigued. ^^ How do you go about getting the wax in the first place though? >_<
Although - I think that somewhere we've got a "make your own candle" set. sweatdrop
...I can be such an idiot at times. xd
But yes, thank you. I'll give it a shot. 3nodding

Here you can buy colourless wax about 50x60x5cm in a local papershop thingie. (I still don't know what to call those. They sell notebooks, pens, paper, greeting cards, colours etc. :S)

Craft shops usually sell colourless wax pellets, dyes to mix in and wicks. It's pretty simple to do but takes a bit of time. You can also buy something called stearin to mix in that makes the candle burn for longer, but it's not necessary.

Thank you guys! whee
I've now managed to make myself a coupla candles, and scent them. One's my study candle, which is yellow with eucalyptus and runes to encourage success carved in there, and ones my sleep candle, which is somewhat stripey with light blue and white: and literally soaked with lavender. ^^; So far they've been working out great, really effective - thank you so much Michel for telling me about this.

This is completely out on a limb. Wrong phrase, but it's not off-topic either. Not really following the conversation. When candles have been flickering, I've found that sending energy into them steadies the flame. Has anyone else experienced something like this? I've always found that the candle I use for fire burns really tall, and all candles I use in magick are hotter (ie. radiate heat further) than any other candles... o_O

aaahhh... I am all of a sudden reminded of a little energy exercise with candles... At some stage in a circle (one of few we've done together) we did something to do with energy and the candle... (what was that Jess?) and whenever we did, I noticed the flame grow a little... and when we tried to put energy towards it deliberately to see if we could make the flame grow, it did. Not huge or that mich bigger... but when we tried, it worked... Enough to notice anyway. We also tried moving the incense smoke toward and away from our hand(s) a different time... that was fun, too... But has nothing to do with candles. I really like red candles... And green ones too. But with the green... I only like specific shades, some *cough* most are horrible.
