Awaken us serpent of ages, awaken us and fulfill your destiny... The voice had been plaguing the serpent for many days now, so much so that he'd left the comfort of his jungle to try and find solitude. He was an anti-social beast and the voice in his head was beginning to drive him insane.
He wanted peace and quiet, to live a life where no one bothered him and he was left to his own devices. Life which involved strange females giving him orders did not sound like much fun.
His belly warmed against the sand of the desert as he slithered along, his soft, smooth scales glinting bright in the sunshine. For a green snake such a place was dangerous and yet since leaving the trees he had seen no predator to harm him.
Perhaps he was doing exactly what the voice wanted him to after all.Closer you come to us, yes closer now. We await your aid. Hurry Nyoka and fulfill your destiny, follow the path of your ancestors and reap the rewards. Nyoka hissed, his head snapping up as he blinked his strange serpentine eyes. A dark forked tongue leapt between scaled lips, but until he could rid himself of the irritating voice he would not stop.
Not ever.
"Get lossst." His tongue flicked and then dissapeared into his mouth before he dipped his head and slithered ever onwards. He was annoyed but atleast the sun here was brilliant ion his body, it had been so hard to get into the sun in such a dense place as the jungle.
The sand beneath his body was soft and moved around him in a strangely comforting manner. However in a few moments to come that sensation would dissapear and leave him feeling quite terified. You are here! Yes you are here! You found us!

Finally...finally...finally... The snake writhed upwards, puffing out his neck and opening his jaws to hiss at an invisible being. His eyes saw no one but his tongue scented a creature he did not like one little bit.
Lion.
His fangs glimmered and the hissing never ceased from his throat but in his mind came the voice once more and it's call was louder than normal. Had he been led here? Had he been tricked?!
"Tricksssy. Foul. Disssgusssting furry beassst!" He turned his head from side to side but saw nothing, that was until the ground itself began to quake.
The sand before him began to swell land all around him the sand shook and trembled as if terrified of what was about to occur.
And then the snake was cast into shadow by the pillar of sand and his eyes fixed upon the structure with such intent that he noticed that something was hidden beneath it's golden surface. With a snapping of his jaws the snake coiled back, his body like a spring, ready to unwind in attack if need be.
"Stay back!"
And then the sand flowed downwards like a golden waterfall to reveal what lay beneath: A statue of a lioness with outstretched pinions and a look of complete and utter sadness on her face. The expression was so realistic that Nyoka's anger was halted briefly and for a moment he found himself lost in his awe.
The statuette was so realistic, every marking of the fur clearly seen. Even the eyes looked as if they stared into his own, the cub's posture so heart breaking that he wondered why anyone would craft a rock in such a way. Anger, pride, strength perhaps, but not fear and sadness like this. Nyoka, awaken us. Bite us and fill our blood with poison. Do not fear scaled one for that poison will not kill, it will only help as it was meant to. You are a blessed being. Blessed. "Who are you!?" But he got no reply and instead Nyoka shifted forwards, coiling his body up around the leg of the statue. It was here that he saw two stone bracelets upon her stone forepaws, bracelets which resembled snakes. Could this lion be a friend of his scaly kin?
It was here as he moved up to her shoulders that he saw it, two small holes in the rock that looked like bite marks. Fangs perhaps? He hissed thoughtfully, his tnogue flickering out to touch against the rocky form. He did indeed smell the scents of other snakes, perhaps friends of this lioness.
But what was he thinking?? This was not a lioness, this was nothing but a rock!Bite us! And with clear frustration Nyoka lunged, sinking his teeth into the puncture marks to find fur beneath the rock. So...this was a lioness held within a stone shell? Could she not shed her skin without his help?
Oh this would be interesting.
For if her wings were as real as her body then this lioness was a goddess and she would prove a might ally, or slave if he had his way.
A deity to protect him and do his bidding. How perfect.

The centuries had ticked by and with every passing day the petrified goddess had waited and waited. She had not seen the world outside, but she had sensed it and with the passing thoughts of others had become desperate to see it again.
Alas, her eyes were made of stone and until the moment she had found Nyoka they had seen nothing but darkness. This Goddess had seen into the abyss, she had seen oblivion, and she hung at it's entrance by a single thread.
Her wings which had flownher through the bluest skies had been forzen in time, each feather weighing more than her body had when she had been truly alive.
The fact was that this Goddess had not slept nor died, she had simply remained living in the darkness, unable to die and unable to get free. Such a punishment was enough to turn anyone insane, and a Goddess too for that matter.
Roko...
Pelli...
'We are free...'
From the outside her stone body quivered and if one happened to look into her face they would have seen her bi-cloured eyes shining as bright as fire. One purple eye blazed like perfect amethyst and one orange eye glared as bright as topaz. Then a strange glow illuminated her body, waving through her stone fur as if it were real.
Nyoka hissed again and retreated, sliding to the sand and out of reach. Just in time too, for int he next moment the stone casing erupted, a thousand tiny shards splitting from the goddesses form where they hung about her like a thouasand tiny stars. For a moment they hovered around her form and then suddenly they dropped to the sand, creating the effect of rain.
Now where the statue had once stood there was a cub, as real as could be with wings a mosaic of different colours and fur the colour of the desert itself.
And as she gazed upon the snake she read his thoughts and smiled somewhat cheerfully before projecting her own thoughts into his mind.
'Hello Nyoka, do not fear us. We are safe and we are known as Roko" And then the tone of voice changed, darkening somewhat.
'No, we are known as Pelli!'
The Goddess ruffled her feathers and the orange eye blazed a little brighter, "No!" And this time she spoke alloud. "We are Rokopelli!"
Nyoka was beginning to think he'd found himself a loony...

"Well Pelli, or Roko or whoever you are." The snake hissed then, the muscles in his neck flexing as he raised his body up to make himself seem larger. This cub was larger than normal but that did not mean he would cower in fear.
Not yet anyway.
"How about you jussst flutter along and leave me alone. You've annoyed me enough for one day."
Rokopelli tilted her head and blinked her mismatched eyes at the snake in a rather confused fashion, then with a ruffle of her wings gave a small huff sound.
"Who is Pelli?"
"Me, me you fool!"
"Who're you!?"
"I am Pelli, I am you, you are me. We are goddess! Wake up!"
"I'm sleeping?" She blinked slowly and turned her attention towards the snake, obviously rather confused by the conversation that she had just had with herself. "Am I asleep?"
