Hello All, I was looking around the forum and I noticed we don't really have anything on chants, so I decided to ask everyone to post some chants of their own. Seeing as I don't know that much on chants I didn't want to put this in the library, seeing as I don't really have the knowledge to make a lesson on it sweatdrop
Just post some chants you've made up, someone else made up, or you read somewhere, I guess.
Two Rules!!!!! 1. If you put up a chant you got from someone/thing else, reference it. Mainly so people can look further into it (buying a book, looking at a website etc.) 2. Don't pay out other peoples chants, chances are they'll think yours sucked too smile

I guess I'll start off my own topic.
Seeing as it seems the seasons have been completely out of whack down here in the southern land (I swear, in Autumn it was Winter, Mid-Winter it was spring, and now in Spring its gone into summer) My family has become fire paranoid, living near the bush, it happens. Anyhoo, I made up this chant as basically a small "Protect Me" chant to try and protect me from fires. So far, it's been two amazingly hot days and my house hasn't burnt down yet (Though I might be following the same principle as Lisa Simpson's "Anti-Tiger Rock" blaugh ). But enough with the long intro! On with the short chant!
Let there be no fire, No smoke for me to see, This is my desire, My will, so mote it be
Ah, gotta love the typical "so mote it be" Anyhoo (I say that alot) If it helps you could picture some protective energy encircling you, your house, your town etc. My suggestion, use something linked with water, after all, fire hates the stuff.

This is a great topic, I think! But, unfortunately, I don't really know of any chants other than the ones I use for scrying... which I can't seem to think of off the top of my head at the moment. Maybe I'll post them later.
As for to whether or not this belongs in the Library subforum.... After this thread builds up a little bit with more chants, if Tricia wants, we can move it to the Library, but for now, it's fine here in the main forum.

The only chanish thing I know is something I got from the Circle Round book/cd. It goes like this:
Fur and feathers and scales and skin Different without but the same withing Many a body but one the soul By all creature are the Gods made whole
I'm not accually sure if those are the words. It's what I remember hearing, and the words we used when the my sister's and my hamster passed on.
Oh! O remeber a couple of others. that my mom taught me. and I know many other peope know them, but I am not sure the origins of them.
Isis, Astarte, Diana, Hecate, Dameter, Kali, Inanina
And I know I may have spelled some of the names wrong.
We all come from the Goddess And to her we shall return Like a drop of rain Flowing to the ocean

I know a few We all come from the goddess, extended version *Simultaneously, or some similar hormony type thing of your choosing* We all come from the goddess We all go to the horned one Hoof and horn, hoof and horn And to her we shall return And from him we shall return All that dies shall be reborn Like a drop of rain Like a spark of flame Corn and grain, corn and grain Flowing to the ocean Growing into new life All that falls shall rise again I like this version cos I think the horned one often gets the short straw when it comes to honouring the deities, and cos it has cool harmonies. This one's really good if you slowly get faster and faster each repetition, it sounds awesome. Circle round the fire To raise the cone of power To bring what we desire Oh, So mote it be Weave the magick by the moonlight Weave the magick all night long Weave the magick by the moonlight Dance and sing the witches song *lather rinse and repeat as neccesary* Nice end of ritual chant Circle is open, but unbroken may the god and the goddess be ever in your heart Merry meet and merry part and merry meet again. Circle round the fire and we all come from the goddess (along with others) are HereAnd Circle is open is Here

We chanted this once with a friend. Don't know where he got it from: "Come wind, come rain, come lightening, thunder Come the storm in all its wonder!" Power raising chant by Arkayne Magii: "I call upon this power grand, On forehead, chest, foot and hand. I call the power of Divinity, The power of the Great Oak Tree." Following the theme of "mote it be"... here is another chant by Arkayne Magii. This is for the completion of a ritual or spell. "My will is strong, My power free, My will be done, So mote it be!" This is a Lady Liberty chant used in protests. It's written by Starhawk. It is performed as a call and response. "We will never Never lose our way To the well Of Liberty And the power Of her living flame It will rise It will rise again." Some of the chants that have been posted so far and more can be heard at http://www.bornpagan.com/upca/song_cycle/mp3.htm Community Song Cycle

www.elodrym.org/PowerSong.mp3The audio file will probably pop up in a new window. I recorded this chant and Arkayne Magii mixed it. I use it sometimes in rituals for energy raising. The first time I heard it was at a Pagan Cluster ritual.

Awwww....My topic is slighty dead, TIME FOR A RESSURECTION! (Which probably won't last blaugh ) Anyway, heres a chant for scrying with water I found in Scott Cunningham's Earth, Air, Fire and Water (A good book if you're interested in elemental properties, though I THINK you're supposed to read Earth Power first, but I digress)
Sparkle, Shimmer Mind grows dimmer The second sight's Now brought to light
I've read a different version before, probably in a Circle of Three novel, It's too be used when you're scrying into a bowl of water.

Here's a few of my own; I like to write 'em myself:
Dream: As I sleep on this night, Give to me the perfect sight, To show to me a future plight, To learn from it what I might. Show to me what I desire, I am in need of answers so dire, With this gift, set me free, With the power of prophecy!
Protection: To keep me and mine from harm, I infuse magic into this charm, And with this power all bad will cease, Bringing to us calm and peace.
(Usually done with an item in hand)
Binding: By all the power of three times three, I bind you from doing harm. This spell has been bound, and shall not return on me, As I do will, so mote it be! (Though I wrote my own, I got the idea from Starhawk...I believe it was)
Prosperity: May me and mine live in good health, And may we be blessed with considerable wealth, Abundance of love and happiness is what I ask, With a positive mind I shall meet the task.
Physical Healing: If an ailment should plague me or mine, Dull the aches and make them be fine, If more serious an ailment it be, Cure them of it, three by three. May their suffering dwindle and vanish, Continue to make them well and to banish, Keep the disease from spreading abound, send the illness into the ground.
God chant:
O-si-ris, Di-on-ys-us, Pan, Cer-nun-nos, O-si-ris, Di-on-ys-us, Pan, Cer-nun-nos, God of justice, Lord of the Vine, God of the Harvest, Lord of the sun.
Goddess Chant: I-sis, Art-em-is, Ha-thor, Di-a-na, Lady of fertility, Goddess of the Hunt, Mistress of motherhood, Lady of the Moon!
Most of those are spells, but I usually chant them several times while visualizing the outcome. ^^

Round and round the Wheel doth turn! Higher and higher the Balefires burn Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift Pass and pass and claim a kiss!
Maiden, Maiden, Flowered Bride Offer up your Lady's pride With your lover in the Greenwood bide Merry 'til the morningtide
Round and round the Wheel doth turn! Higher and higher the Balefires burn Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift Pass and pass and claim a kiss!
John's in the barley, John's in the rye Stag's in the Hawthorne, raise him up high Raise him up high and the fires burn bright Merry in the Green 'til the dawn's first light
Round and round the Wheel doth turn! Higher and higher the Balefires burn Dancer hath a promise, Weaver hath a gift Pass and pass and claim a kiss!
'Tis the night to ring about in the May Dance the old dance in the merry old way Flesh to flesh and heart to heart Merry you meet and merry you part!
Round and round the Wheel doth turn! Higher and higher the Balefires burn Pass and pass and catch Her eye Help the Lady raise the Greenman high!
This is a Beltane chant I found in a book called 'Sherwood Forest' by Lisa Croll DiDio. The book may be fiction, but I found that the chants and story resonated with me for some reason. Enjoy!

Yeah, that's the one you had in your topic; it bears reading, I'd think. That's an incredible chant.
