A Lost Iguana
How are you starting it? I did a crash course in QFT at a summer school and we pretty much dived into second quantization after a brief review of relativistic quantum mechanics, and Lagrangian/Hamiltonian mechanics applied to classical field theory.
I admit, we never got further than the scalar field case in our examples, but we were supposed to end up with the tools to create particles in Fock space. Or something. I forget. XD
oh so it is fock
i wasnt sure if he wrote fork or fock
we did something with that
and lagrangians and hamiltonians and then some tensor rubbish i think
and transformations
i'm still clueless. hurrah.
i need to revise classical Ls and Hs I think...
what makes me REALLY HAPPY is how:
- he's apparently the head of the dept and doesnt have time to be helping us with this stuff so if we have problems with it we should sort it out between ourselves
- if we DO have problems with it we're stupid and will never catch up because this is the easy easy stuff
it just fills me with confidence
MY uni never pulls this rubbish with us - our mathsphys dept has a totally open-door thing going on and are quite happy to have me constantly plaguing them. same with the maths dept.
speaking of maths it's halfway through my algebraic topology course and I'm clueless. argh.
also our bloody general rel course is FULL OF differential geometry
have i done that before? no. so i got a basic book on it.
diffeomorphisms and stereographic projections for teh win...
