Newtons visit had kicked Natsumi into gear concerning her state of clothing... She had been nearly on her set.. and what then? Walk around naked? Haha. The apocolypse would come before Natsumi did such a thing. So... She had taken some time to gather her dirty clothes, and now she was facing down her door... Just go out, down the road... Wash your clothes, and then come back. It'll be fine.
She thought about maybe washing them in the tub, but that had been shoved away as being "too crazy." Of course hiding away for God knew how long wasn't crazy at all... Nope. Not one bit.
And here she was, basket of clothing in one arm, the other hand resting on the door... Just do it. She'd go fast. Okay. the door opened, the girl poking her head out... No one around. Quickly, she slipped from the duplex, shutting the door and hurring down the stairs the best she could with her feet changed as they were.

Thom was in a surprisingly good mood following his own meeting with the frog man. Newt's stutter was irritating, yes, but there were far worse people to talk to around the island. Zachary, for example. Or that squirrel woman, whatserface, Antony. Newt was at least polite, even if it took him a while to get through a sentance.
However, after learning that something had happened to Natsumi, Thom dropped the conversation fairly quickly and rushed off to the duplexes to talk to the girl himself. It hadn't occurred to him that he would be walking straight into a trap. It had completely slipped his mind that Natsumi's duplex was above his. It wasn't until Newt had wandered off and Duplex 45 came into sight that Thom remembered and, at that point, well, it was really too late.
The duplex, to anyone else, would have appeared just as any other, but even as Thom watched it warped to swallow his entire field of vision--including the gecko girl descending the steps that he had yet to notice. The door opened to bleed darkness and roaches, expanding outward to enclose the entire area in a massive, slowly shrinking duplicate of his grave. And there, framed in the doorway, was the shadow, smirking. No where to run. No where to run.
The cobra man froze the moment the sight registered, absolutely rigid with terror. His pupils dilated, a slight tremor running through his arms. No where to run, even if he had been able. He had walked into a trap.

The first instinct the girl was met with when she saw someone near the duplexes was to bolt back into her own. She hadn't seen him from where he was when she first came out, but there he was.. in all his cobra glory. Her mind picked up that it was Thomas just before she decided to run, her heart sunk, and releif washed over her... He was there. He wasn't dead! He was just fine. Physically fine that was.
She jumped the last 2 steps, dropping her basket on the ground carelessly, not like the clothes weren't already dirty, before rushing forward towards her friend. "Thomas?" she questioned, stopping just infront of him. She was wearing the same thing she'd been when Newton came, a pair of pants and her buisness shirt, along with the new necklace Newt had given her. "Are you alright?"

Natsumi might as well have been invisible during her rush over. He didn't see her--his eyes were fixed on the grinning shadow. He willed himself to run, to shout, anything to chase the shadow away, to prevent himself from being drawn into the grave. But he couldn't. He could only stand there.
But there was someone standing before him, he realized when Natsumi spoke. With the momentary interruption, his eyes left the duplex for the girl, and instantly his surroundings returned to normal. Duplex 45 stood as innocent and unspectacular as ever. Nonetheless, even with his focus now on Natsumi, it was a moment before recognition dawned. However, once he recognized the girl, he cracked a smile, adrenaline draining from his system as quickly as it had come. He relaxed, dropping to his knees, and looped both arms around the girl's waist, burying his face against her stomach without so much as a hello.

Natsumi waited a moment, trying to place the expression she had caught just before she got close enough to catch his attention. Then it had faded and.. dissapered? "Ah!" She squeaked as he dropped suddenlly, arms raising into the air awkwardly as he burried his face into her stomach. She visibly cringed, her stomach always felt so empty after the "incident." So with Thom there, almost filling that feeling, it was both nice and stingy. A bitter sweet. And after a second or so, she abruptly wrapped her arms around his head, giving a squeaze then loosening so he could pull away when needed.
Her arms stayed there, tail twitching, falling into silence. She couldn't stop a breif glance around the area, but once her mind determined it safe her gaze returned back to the man in her arms. What on earth happend?

A word, an embrace--he was safe. The duplex was just a duplex, and the shadow was gone as long as someone was with him. He hadn't done anything wrong. They couldn't trap him again. He still wasn't ever going in his own duplex again, but he really didn't need to worry about it. He was safe.
Finally he loosened his arms, letting them fall back to his sides a moment later and sitting back on his legs to glance up at Natsumi. He cracked a grin in greeting, muttered a 'Sorry about that', and reached for his discarded crutch, climbing back to his feet and pointedly avoiding looking anywhere near the duplexes. "'Ad a little... Well, nevermind. Natsumi! 'Ow've you been, then? It's been a while." Small talk. Good. Good. Talking was good. Take that, shadow.

She watched, waited, it wasn't like thom to be so... Open? He just didn't seem like the hugging type. Actually they'd only hugged when he transformed that one time... and she had initiated that one. She blinked as he pulled away, frowning in concern... Which seemed to fade some as she was met with a grin. Still with that, and that time when she had thought she'd been imagining things with his duplex, she couldn't help but still feel a bit worried in the back of her mind.
She gave a little nod to the small talk, muttering an small "mm" in agreement, which abrubtly broke into a smile... It was nice to see him. But who wouldn't miss such a boisterous man? Tsh. "I have been... Alright. I was going to do laundry..." She gestured to the tossed aside clothing, pausing ot give another saftey glance left.. right, back... good. The careful action had become somewhat a habit over the last month or so. "Have you been alright?" She finished, looking back to him.

"Brilliant! I'll join you, shall I?" Laundry. Laundry meant indoors, but laundry meant away from the duplexes. Indoors was tolerable provided Natsumi didn't wander off. He needed to be away from the duplexes. "I've been...well enough."
Smile still forced, he crutched his way towards the discarded basket of clothes--which, he realized, meant walking towards the duplex. The door swung open once more, darkness pouring forth, but Thom fixed his gaze on the basket, stubbornly continuing forward and managing to reach the lot with only a slight shake in his arms. He tugged the clothes back into the basket, tucking the lot under his right arm, and awkwardly rose once more, gladly leaving the duplexes behind. "Sorry if y' looked for me an' wasn't around. I 'aven't been stayin' in my duplex lately."

"Okay..." she gave a small nod and a smile, well enough.. .That was something. Then he was crutching to fetch her laundry before she had a chance to stop him... Not that she couldn't really dash past him and get the laundry before he did, it just was that she hadn't realized he was getting it til he pent down to tart picking things up. "Aa, You don't have to..." A conjunction! Probably the first she'd ever used, though a tad mispronounced... All that reading might have paid off. "Really..." she edged forward, too late.. he already had it, and was moving away from the duplexes.
She trailed after him, hands fidgeting as her mind debated trying to take the bundle of clothing or not. "I have not been out much... But... I was wondering what happend to you. I heard something and your door was locked..." she cut off, shaking her head. "I was worried." She admitted, stepping forward suddenlly to catch her hands under the basket of clothing, and gently take it away from him. She couldn't just let a man with a crutch carry her things... "But you are alright now." She gave a small smile. Stange though, she was so much more nervious around everyone else than Thom. She didn't feel that constant need to fix her posture or something of the sort. Alot like how she was around her brothers. She paused to give a glance behind them, then back to Thom.

"It's not a problem," he assured her, but allowed her to slip the bundle from his grasp nonetheless. It was easier to walk without it, certainly, but it had served as a good distraction while he carried it. He frowned briefly as the bundle was eased from under his arm, but almost immediately lost interest as her words registered in his mind.
Locked door. She had tried to get him out? But she hadn't been able to then. She wouldn't be able to now. Sensing someone behind him, Thom whirled around, taking a step backwards when there was no one to be seen and keeping hold of his crutch only out of habit. Briefly, his eyes fixed the duplex now a good distance away, but he managed to pull his eyes free and turn back around, continuing stiffly at Natsumi's side. Fighting against paranoia, he lifted a hand to hold his head, rubbing his temple with the heel and trying to decide how best to explain. "The, ah... I was.. Th' door was locked, an' th' roaches--"
He shook his head and paused in step, dropping his crutch in favor of moving both hands to his head. His eyes closed against the images that threatened to assault him, and for a long moment he simply remained where he was, stiff and silent and struggling against the memories. Finally, without looking up, he cleared his throat, managing to croak out, "Nats-... Natsumi, t-talk?"

She blinked, watching his expression change as she mentioned the locked door... Well, she hadn't imagined it apparently, but she suddnlly wished she had. "Roaches...?" She echoed.
Meep. Bad subject... Down the clothes went again as she moved infront of him to try and catch the face that was getting hidden behind hands. Her tail gave a small twitch, talk... Right. Okay. And certiantly not about what made him look so... scared? It was spooky to see the man she looked to for comfrot scared. "Newton... Gave me this necklace today.. and... I finished reading lord of the rings. It is still confusing... But I think I am starting to get it..." she started to let herself ramble on about nothing, only motivated by worry. "It scared me, some, but it had a good ending..." she paused awkwardly, "Did you have a favorite part of it?" The gecko in her mind urged her to look around, something might be sneaking up! But... Her human mind argued that Thom was more important at this second.. She could check as soon as he stopped looking like he was.

Natsumi was there. Natsumi was speaking to him, calm as ever, simple small talk between friends. He wasn't trapped again. He was just imagining things. He nodded slowly, spinning her words through his mind a few times before his mind grasped their meaning. He took a shaky breath and let one hand fall, lifting his head slightly. "...Tom Bombadillo," he finally replied, offering a nervous laugh. "Good book, that."
A moment later he cleared his throat and bent to retrieve his crutch, straightening up with a sheepish smile. Remembering her earlier words, he leaned forward, peering curiously at the necklace. "Lovely, that. Nice lad, Newt. Bit irritatin', but nice. I ran into 'im myself just b'fore I came t'see you."

Good. Good it was working... She smiled, a mix of encouragement and releif. Note to self, don't mention locked doors or whatever happend that day... She was more the type to avoid such problems, or any problem... Course that had obviously done wonders for her in the past.
As he bent to retreive the cruch, she fetched the laundry, glancing to the sides and back.. Safe, so far... And they'd get there soon. "Yes, lovely... and he is nice." She lifted a free hand to bend the object around her neck so she could see. It really was lovely... Thom caught her attention again, causing her to look back again."Really? He left quickly..." she frowned some at that, still fretting over the fact she might have messed up.

Keep walking away from the duplexes. Yes. Good. The moment she had settled the bundle in her arms once more, he started off again for the laundry room, nodding. "He probably came from visitin' you, I shouldn't wonder. We spent most of th' time talkin' about you, in fact," he admitted, flashing his first real grin since they had begun speaking. "He's rather smitten."

Natsumi blinked, automatically glancing to the ground. "About me..?" she echoed, momentarily worring it might be bad but.. No, why would Thom tell her if it were bad? But why... Well... It was kinda obvious Newton was attracted to her, but she thought it nothing more than a friendly sort of thing... Like highschool dating, you go out once or twice, see where it goes... That sort. "Smitten?" she questioned that time, not regestering that word in her limited second language vocabulary.
