Sunset was approaching, which had inspired Sid to cut his binging short in favor of watching it. Thus he was only mildly buzzed when he walked out to the surf. It was enough to odd a nice gloss to the scene and make him feel that sitting down would be a lovely idea. He didn't know if the tide came in or out at such an hour, as if it matter much when he was going to get wet one way or another. He sank down onto the sand that hadn't been touched by the surf yet, careful of his tail.

After that it was just a matter of watching the horizon and waiting to see if his feet were going to get wet. He rested his cane in his lap in the meantime and tried not to think of how he was going to get up once night fell.

Cody had spent most of the afternoon swimming around the shore. Something about the salt water made it felt better on his skin than the lake one. But the sun was setting and he had to return to the village
So unwillingly he left the water and starte searching for his bike. But instead he found someone he didn't know sitting on the beach

It looked like another animal person, though he wasn't completely sure with red light of the sunset. The way Gallen treated him was still fresh in his head and by no means we wanted to have to go through that again
But he had to cross the beach to get to his bike. So he carefully aproached the new person

The view of the ocean stretching out before him, Sid decided, would have so much better of he was at least high. Instead it was just... nice. All a few beers could do to help the experience was take the edge off the nicotine withdraw. The latter was for the better, he had to keep telling himself that, because a man can only have so many vices before it stops being cool and starts being sad. As if it wasn't already.

He glanced over his shoulder and realized that with his hair out of a ponytail several inches of it was now in the sand. With an annoyed sigh and turned back to the water. The sight of the kid approaching surprised him, it also reminded him that since his change he was never a pleasant sight.

As Sid waved he tried to close his mouth a little more, but it would only work with him so much.

As Cody got closer, he realised this people had changed as well. And had a really weird mouth!

Not being able to hold his curiosity, he approached Sid for a better look

"Hi"

Sid's eyes lingered on the kid's tail a little longer than was polite. Figured they'd go easier on a kid... figured they'd experiment on them, too. His tongue curled up in what was the sad echo of his habit of licking his lips when nervous. He realized, too late, that had to look weird.

So he tried to make up for it by saying something. "Hey."

He was entirely too sober for this.

Cody did noticed the long gaze, but paid little attention to it. Not like he hadn't do the same when he stared at the mirror anyway

But he looked curiously at Sid's teeth in return. Why did he had long, needle looking teeth like that? And why was his jaw bigger than the mouth?

"Why does your mouth look like that?"

"Jus' lucky ah guesss," Sid hissed. It took all of a second for it to hit him that that was too harsh a thing to say to a kid. "Ah mean... s'whah ah'm becomin'... th-- ssome kinna fish." He sighed in frustration. "Ah'm adjuss... adjustin'."

Cody was startled by the harshness of the reply for a split second. Whaever he had asked, it wasn't a topic this guy liked to talk about

"Sorry, it's just... I've never seen teeth like that before. Or a jaw bigger than the mouth!"

Sid nodded and scratched his chin. He hadn't shaved since he changed, so he was developing a terrible case of hobo beard. "Ih'll likely oh- only geh worssse," he said matter-of-factly. "Teef es..." Sid trailed off and shook his head, words like 'especially' were still too much to attempt.

Cody looked a bit puzzled, as he tried to make sense of what Sid was saying. For a moment he thought of asking why his voice sounded so strange, but that would probably be impolite

"Seems hard"

Only then he noticed Sid's tail. It was definitly fish looking, but as the sunlight was fading he could swear those dots were glowing

"Is your tail really shining?"

The sunset has lost its appeal- there'd be another tomorrow, anyway- so Sid kept his attention on Cody. "Yeh," he said, glancing back at his tail. There wasn't much room for it to wiggle as long as he was sitting down, but there was just enough for it to create a little furrow in the sand. "Mah own perthonal nigh' ligh'. Makess ih hard to ssleep ah times."

He didn't even notice the last word was uttered without incident or lisping or hissing.

Cody couldn't help to poke the dots on the still small tail. It felt just like scales and not some glowy stuff like he first thought

"Cool"

"I guesss," Sid muttered.

His tail flicked away involuntarily at the touch. Sid himself was feeling a little too low to get angry at the invasion of personal space. He may have gotten the random twitching more or less under control, but he didn't see what the use in controlling it yet. Leaning to talk with a mouth like his was his biggest priority, though learning to drink without making a mess was a close second. Smoking he'd given up on. That there was even a list of adaptations to work through depressed him even more. Worse, the buzz was fading, leaving him without any sort of buffer.

Time to change the topic, then.

"Tho... yuh a dolphin or somefin, righ'?"

"If you get lost you'll be easy to spot"

It was a funny idea, imagining Sid in the middle of the jungle and then using glowy tail to be found. Maybe he could even use it as a lantern if the light got strong enough. That would be neat!

"Yeah. Dunno why, but it's cool. Better than getting a rodent"

"Ah thuppossse... Supposse... sh-crap." At least Sid caught himself before he swore. Let no one say he was a total bad influence on the younger generation. As he brushed his hair out of his face he finally took note of the tide. He'd been wrong- though he wasn't sure which he'd been hoping for- it was moving out.

"Wissh ah coulda stayed a mammal," he added under his breath.
