Part I: Introduction

User Image

Fa'e were the first. They are considered by many to be the most unobtainable Heavy-RP child in Gaia. If you haven't experienced the wonderful RP, community and art I can only strongly suggest that you click the banner below and visit the world of the Fa'e. There, you will find a much better explanation/introduction than I could ever hope to give.

Part III: Why?

User Image

The Fa'e thread happens to be one of the first that I stumbled upon when I discovered breedables back in '04. (You know, back when 20k was a lot of gold? XD) However, being the self-conscious newbie that I was, I felt intimidated by the amount of activity in the Fa'e thread and I didn't feel comfortable enough to build a home there. It may sound a bit silly but, its how I felt and I can't deny that. Over the years, I've found that honesty is the best policy and I can't lie for the life of me.

I've been a silent lurker ever since Kia was a toddler. I remember because it was the site of her in Neith's sig that tempted me to seek out the thread.

Anyways, you may be wondering any number of the following things;

'Why bother starting a quest now when the odds of ever becoming a Fa'e gaurdian are a hundred to one? What? Who? Where? How?'

Over the course of the past few years concepts and ideas for a Fa'e have rattled around in mind. It was something I read very recently, however, that finally kicked me in the a** and had me putting my nose to the grindstone.

Fae HQ
The story of the Fa'e has been in the making for a long time, since the first Fa'e appeared out of the shadows of time, children that never should have been born... children that defy the order of nature, children that have made some ancient forces very angry indeed.

That quote was taken directly from 'The Story of the Fa'e-Metaplot History & Updates' thread in the guild.

Children that never should have been born? Children that defy the order of nature? Children that have made some ancient forces very angry indeed?

Wow. Amazing. Entirely gripping.

That single quote made my imagination spin and my saliva drip. Holy crap. Who wouldn't want to become a part of that?

The roleplay is enchanting and many of the Fa'e are interesting, well-developed and beautiful characters that I would love to be able to interact with.

I know that the likeliness of me ever becoming a Fa'e gaurdian isn't very high but I fail to see the harm in bringing at least a part of my girl to life. I can't help but feel like I've been neglecting her by letting her rot away inside my head. At least here, she'll have some room to breathe.

Part IV: Concept

User Image

Sedna was a shallow, beautiful girl who was content with her life at home with her father, a widower. She turned away suitor after suitor for none could ever afford to provide her with the comfort and contentment she felt when she was within the richness of her own home. It was on one fateful summer evening that a handsome man arrived in a beautiful qajaq. He had heard rumors of Sedna's beauty and had come to her with promises of an even better life in hopes of gaining her hand in marriage. It wasn't until the handsome young man guaranteed to supply for her aging father that Sedna agreed to marry him.

It wasn't until after the wedding and their arrival at their new home that the handsome man revealed his true identity. He was a Raven and could only hunt small fish; therefore, he was unable to give her the things she had wanted from a marriage. Miserable and filled with a strong sense of betrayal, Sedna could only weep and pray to the Creator that her father would visit someday and take her home.

It is rumored that the wind carried Sedna's cries across the ocean and to her father who had already realized that something was terribly wrong for the provisions the handsome man had promised had not arrived. Upon hearing her desperate pleas for help Sedna's father collected his boat and set out to sea in search of his daughter.

Raven was out hunting when Sedna's father arrived at the island where the couple had taken up house. Sedna swiftly told her father of the birdman's betrayal and he, angry that the Raven had dared lie to him in such a way, swore that he'd take her home with him to stay. By the time father and daughter had made it out into open sea Raven had returned home. Enraged by the abandonment of his wife, Raven flew to Sedna's father's boat. The furious flapping of his wings caused a terrifying storm to swell up and surround the small fisherman's boat.

Fearing for his own life, he grasped his daughter around the waist and cast her from his boat. When Sedna clung to the side of the boat her father, worried that her weight might cause the boat to tip, took out his knife and cut off each of her fingers. They fell into the ocean and became the riches of the sea; orca whales, seals and walruses.

Incapable of holding on any longer, Sedna sank to the bottom of the ocean, then descended to Adlivun, the Inuit underworld, and became its ruler.

Once upon a time in Adlivun Sedna was cold and naked for she lacked the fingers to hold the needle and thread necessary for sewing her own clothes. She was covered by a long tangle of black hair that sometimes crawled with crabs that she could not comb out. The broken taboos and sins of the people above plagued poor Sedna. They would collect within her body and cause terrible pain and damage to her soul. When her suffering became to great Sedna would weep.

All of the creatures that roamed the Inuit world would try and find their way to Adlivun's doors in order to comfort the Goddess. This strange behavior is what finally warned the people of the above world that something below them was amiss. They gathered with their Shaman and publicly confessed their sins. Then, they would pray and dance for the Goddess Sedna and the Shaman purified herself so that she could take the treacherous path that lead to Sedna's home, the underworld. Once there, the Shaman cleansed Sedna's body with fine sand and sang to the Goddess, while tenderly picking the crabs from her hair and combing it until the tangled locks were returned to their original glory.

After Sedna has been sufficiently comforted the Shaman offered the confessions of those in the above world to her. She repeats the people's prayers of love and respect, their promises to change their life stories and to be kind to each other and all other creatures. Then, Sedna prayed to Creator and asked Creator to forgive the people for the ways they had behaved. All was forgiven and the Goddesses' sobbing was no longer heard in the waves or in the winds.

Now, however, Adlivun has transformed drastically. There is an empty throne where the once finger-less Goddess had sat, overlooking and taking care of the numerous tornat (spirits of natural formations and animals) and tupilak (souls of dead people). As the years passed the people of the above world became less and less concerned about the Goddess below. Their sins had piled up to such a great extent that Sedna drowned in her own tears and the souls that wandered the halls of Adlivun were lost without their ruler. They escaped into the above world and have wandered there for hundreds of years with only one purpose; to find and bring back Sedna, their beloved Goddess of the Deep Sea.

Part V: The Fa'e

User Image

Name: Eshe

Meaning of Name: Life in Swahili. –In Inuit mythology Sedna is the ruler of Adlivun, the underworld, where the souls of the dead, the tornat (spirits of natural formations and animals) and the tupilak (souls of people that have passed on), reside. Her name symbolizes her rebirth as a Fa'e and it’s a bit of a parody, if you will, of her past-life position in Adlivun.

Origin of Myth: Inuit

Gender: Female

History: (See; 'Concept.' Sedna's story is kept there.)

Personality: Naïve, forgiving, loyal, selfish, quiet, somewhat egotistical. Eshe is somebody who desperately wants to be loved and cuddled but due to certain past life of experiences that she does not remember or understand she tends to keep everybody who wants to care about her at arm's length. She prefers distance and is very much afraid of stepping out of that particular safe zone. However, she's not one to deny anybody a hug so long as it is asked of her and not suddenly taken. Oddly, she's more comfortable around strangers and people that she doesn't know very well than her family members. Meeting new people is easy for her. However, making close, long-term friends is nearly impossible. She prefers distance over intimacy.

She's logical and quiets her heart in matters of decision. Her gut instinct gets a word in here or there, but she lets her mind rule every choice that she makes. Spoiled, she enjoys getting what she wants when she wants it and is apt to sit and pout if her wishes are denied her. She is the type that wants things handed to her without very much fuss, time or hard work on her part.

Her expressions and emotions are easily read. When she's content and happy Eshe portrays a calm, quiet disposition. However, when she is upset and/or miserable she doesn't care to hide it. Those that see her on a regular basis can easily guess her mood and therefore can either avoid her or not. Usually, having somebody sing to her or brush her hair improves her temperament.

Eshe is not particularly brave and, if faced with battle and given the chance to run she would take it without hesitation. There is only one possible scenario that could possibly convince her to stay and fight. If a member of her family or a friend were in danger she would try her best to overcome her cowardice and protect them, although, her best could turn out to be lacking.

She has an instinctive dislike of birds, predominantly male birds. (Judging by the number of bird Fa'e and Fa'e with feathery wings this could make for some very interesting RPage.)

Feminine and shallow, Eshe has a wild affection for pretty things, whether it is object, beast, man or Fa'e and tends to avoid what she deems to be the lesser species; ugly things.

Appearance: While her Fa'e appearance depends entirely on her parents and what the look there is one defining feature that I would love for her to have. Her fingers should look like they've been sewn back on at the joints where finger meets knuckle and they should be paler than the rest of her hand. The range of movement in her digits is a bit smaller than normal for they are always extremely cold.

Powers: (See; 'Powers')

Why do you want a Fa'e?: (See; 'Why?')

Part VII: Powers

User Image

Powers/ Special Abilities: Eshe's powers are few, limited and they aren't very battle-worthy at all.

-A piercing (almost deafening) cry that can be heard for kilometers. When she cries sea creatures, especially Arctic sea mammals, try their hardest to reach her.

-She can hold her breath for a large amount of time, therefore enabling her to swim deep below the surface of the water. For obvious reasons, it is easier for Eshe to hold her breath longer when she is swimming in the Arctic Ocean, particularly when she is close to Adlivun. This ability won't appear until her teen stage.

- When she is directly disrespected or intentionally wounded sharp pains begin to throb at the joints of her fingers and within the palm of her hands. After her rebirth the effect of this curse on Eshe has lessened slightly and the degree of the pain she experiences depends entirely on the magnitude of disrespect she was treated with and how she interprets it. In most aspects, this ability is more of a curse.

How do the powers and your character relate back to your mythos?

-In relation to her personality

Sedna's personality and abilities varied from article to article and I had a difficult time picking out definite traits that she portrayed. After a bit of hard work and digging, I managed to come up with what I think is a well-rounded character.

It was the betrayal of the Raven that prompted her dislike for birds and the betrayal of the Raven and her father are responsible for her fear of affection. She finds it difficult to trust others and feels more comfortable around children and people she knows.

-Relating to her powers/special abilities:

Like an Orca whale, one of the sea mammals that Sedna's fingers became, she can hold her breath underwater for an unusually large amount of time.

The curse of her hands comes directly from Sedna’s story. The Goddess experienced similar pains whenever the Inuit people were breaking taboos and disrespecting each other.

    1. Be nice to everybody that visits this thread whether they be gaurdian, lurker, friend or bumper.
    2. Please, do not donate any gold to me concerning this particular quest. A Fa'e child can not be bought. Therefore, gold is unnecessary.
    3. Do not steal my concept. I've put hours of work into her and I'd be more than terribly upset if I ever discovered that one of my ideas had been ripped off.
    4. Have fun! Come join me and chat. I'm a friendly person.
