[ Intro ]

Fa'e has been one of the most coveted shops to own from, likely, in almost all of Breedable's history. While everyone's reasons for wanting one may be different, the desires are all still the same - to aquire one through some means.

This quest is my incarnation of that desire, manifested into this thread. Please read on.

Oct. 26 :: Mintaka has a few screws loose, er, things going on which ahs kept her slightly occupied, in good and bad ways. HOWEVER she si trying to work, so pelase excuse all dust and really wtf issues.... and the typos. While not dyslexic really, she does thing too fast for her fingers sometimes... and spellcheck isn't always her friend.

On the other hand, she IS working, so forgive her that. Any swift kicks are allowed, crits are nice long as they're constructive and offer advice (aka no YOU SUCK or IT SUCKS) .... and... bah. I think that's it for now. Right now I'm focussing on the Lost Child side of it, and leaving the pst somewhat vague in certain regards, as I HATE pre-defining every detail since it feels so... confining. Especially in a concept that isn't real. ...and I have a abd tendency to get 'better ideas' and keep editting when I get too detailed. Least on distant pasts. More recent past however... I ned to play with.

[ About the Questing Person ]

Mintaka: Random breedables person since Feb 2004, tends to flit about yet has loyalties. Creative, loves coloring, and adored mythology since youth.

Why quest?
I've asked myself this many times, when the chance for a Fa'e has popped up - and to be honest, the reasons have varied. I think, though, ultimately it is to shape something, to enjoy the creative whims and to interact. Now that I think I've truly found my heart concept, one which I originally thought for certain touched and taken, I think I can truly dive in feeling much better then I ever did before.

Why Loki?
Loki has always been a personal fave of mine from Norse mythology - something about the way he switches sides, you can't be too sure about him, his ability fo shapeshift, and other nuances about him make him a very interesting person. The game Valkyrie Profile certainly didn't help my love of him, and only fueled it more. After all, I didn't make a Shrine to him from the game for nothing, and compare/contrast his existence in the game to the known mythology for nothing. Aside, he's a tricky b*****d who's devious, and what's not to love about that?

A little more about Mintaka
I've been a member of Gaia since May 01, 2003, and I have to say I've enjoyed most every minute of it. I've been dedicated to breedables since I first came across it in Feb. 2004 -- I dare say I'd not leave this for the world. I've lurked Fa'e for many many ages, watching and lurking, occasionally entering into the contests... I feel n00bish for my previous approaches, but then I've lacked faith in my concept, ability, and other aspects related to getting one.

[ The Mythos ]

Loki was and is considered a primary god of the Norse mythos, retaining a number of nicknames - the Sly One, the Trickster, the Shapechanger, and the Sky Traveler. While considered an Aesir god, he was the child of two giants - Farbauti and Laufey. He is, however, considered a blood-brother of Odin, whcih is how he is considered among the Aesir.

Loki has been responsible for a number of issues among the Aesir, yet helped as well. Here are a few notable thigns Loki has been involved in, resulting in a number of thigns you may or may not recognize.

+ The Wall of Asgard

A giant, disguised as a man made a wager with the gods about how quick he could build a wall about the lands, and the giant was requesting Freija as his wife and possession of the sun and moon ... and Loki took the bet. The other gods were furious, and threatened Loki to do something about this. He shapeshifted into a mare, and lured away the horse the giant was using to help him - the only reason that he could possibly finish on time to win the bet. When Loki did return, a colt was in his wake, the 8-legged steed Sleipnir.

+ Gifts of the Dwarves

Loki being the trickster he was cut Sif's hair - unfortunately for our beloved trickster she was Thor's wife. When he found her upset, eh went after Loki. Loki's solution was to get a wig of gold spun to replace it... he also recieved from the three dwarves Gungnir - Odin's spear - and a collapsible boat for Freyr. On his return trip with the wig that would behave like real hair, and the other items he came across 2 other dwarves, and made a bet - his head being the prize - they could not make better. From this came the boar Gullenbursti, the gold ring Draupnir (Odin), and Mjollnir, which would become Thor's hammer. Freyr, Thor and Odin judged the items, deciding the hammer was the best gift - but Loki had his mouth wired shut (for awhile) instead of losing his head.

+ Stolen Hammer

Loki helps Thor in retireving Mjollnir from Thrym. Thrym wanted Freyja as his bride - otherwise it would not be returned. Freyja refused, which was understandable. Loki, however, devised a plan that Thor should dress up as Freyja and go. Loki takes the 'bride' (wearing Freyja's necklace and a veil to hide his face), and they eat at a feast. loki reasons why the bride ate so much was because she had been so excited she ahdn't eaten in 8 days... and that her eyes were so red from not sleeping in 8 days when that was noticed. A ring was presented, and the hammer returned into the 'rbide's' lap... and Thor then struck down all the giants in attendance, having recieved his hammer at last.

Loki's wife was Sigyn, but hsi mistress was the giantess Angrboda. From her, he fathered three children - Fenrir, the Midgar Serpent, and Hel (goddess of the land of the dead). Loki's dive into the more sinsiter began when ehw as responsible for the death fo Balder, god of light, by helping Hod throw a sprig of mistletoe (the only plant that was not asked to vow not to harm Balder) at Balder, which killed him, and then disguised himself as a giatness, and refused to weep while all other things in existence did - Hel's condition for the release of Balder (all of existence must weep for Balder). When Loki's treachery and fault of all this was discovered, he became hunted, and was eventually captured. He was bound to rocks, and a poisonous snake placed above his head ... Sigyn caught most of the poison that dripepd, but when she ahd to empty the bowl, that poison which fell onto his face caused him to contort, and was the cause of earthquakes.

Loki will break free at Ragnarok, and lead the giants and monsters against the gods, in an all-out fight. Loki will battle with Heimdall, the watchman, and they will kill one another before the end of Ragnarok...

((A rather shorted version, but it covers the important aspects. A few more tales will be brought over as well.)

[ Loki's Backstory ]

Loki ahd always been an outcast, neither fully accepted or trusted by the giants or the Aesir, and made the best of his situation. While most every 'myth' known about him had truth, things that eh did do, for better or worse, there was little mention of the tension that semeed ot foten exist in the later between Thor and Loki.

A tension that would eventually breed the hateful spite that would cause him to use Hod to strike down Balder. Loki had a level of jealousy and hatred of the fair God, beign loved, adored, and the center of attention. When he learned that Frigg had extracted oaths to not harm Balder from most everything, he turned into a hag to see if anythign ahd not - which had been the Mistletoe ...

As for gods played the game, throwing things at him and watching them fail to harm him, Loki - disgused still - helped the blind Hod to join in, by guiding his hand to throw the spring. It struck, killing Balder instantly. Loki vanished away quickly, leaving Hod to face the consequence, and Hod was struck down by Vali for his 'actions'.

Hermod, on the request of Odin, rode down on Sliepnir to Hel, to try and seek audience with Hel to get Balder back. She told him that she would do so only if all of existence wept for Balder ... Loki disguised himself as a giantess, refusing to allow Balder back, and refused to weep despite Frigg's begging. Loki was satisfied with this, rather smug for having won and caused the fall of someone who was 'so much better' then he by being adored, and taking it all away.

However, he did not calculate the Aesir would find out so quickly it had been his fault. When he learned he was now being hunted for hsi part he fled, going into hiding as a salmon in a waterfall. This did not last long, and he found himself caught by Thor, and brought to judgement.

Odin would not alow his blood-brother to be killed, and instead had him bound and chained to rocks. Skadi put a poisonous snake above his head though, to remind him painfully of his mistake and make him suffer as they all had. Sigyn, his faithful wife, remained at his side and caught the poison ... hwoever occasionally she had to drain the bowl...

Loki's rage knew no bounds now, and as every drop of poison hit, he found himself more and more angry, fighting to release himself when Sigyn was not around. One day, he managed to break free, and fled to the land of the giants, Jotumheim. Here, he raised the giants into an army, and led them to Bifrost the rainbow bridge, and up across to battle the gods, calling forth his children Fenrir and Jormungand (Midgar Serpent) to aid as well.

Heimdall, the watchman at Bifrost, sounded the horn, warning fo the approach of the army. Loki charged, leaving the fate of the battle for the Giants against to gods to them, attempting to silencce Heimdall once and for all for ruining the surprise of the attack. The battle was fierce, Loki using fire magics and his own shifting ability to try to best Heimdall, however as he struck be found himself fatally wounded by the watchman as well. Battle raged around the dying gods, Loki feeling a wisp of regret that it had all come to this... if only he could have tried to do things different, had been able to recieve the accpetance he never found...

His last breath left him as the fight continued, but already the world was crumbling, falling to pieces before the new world could be born once more...

Loki's Present [Lost Child]

Name: Istaxire Clark
Nicknames: Ist, Axi
Age: Approx. 17
Gender: Male

World of Origin: Crystara
World Description: Crystara is a world on the frindges of reality somewhat, existing in a shattered mess of alternate relaities. A fairly magic-dominated world, many races walk the land, havinf adopted a humaniod adaption to mingle with the humans. Dragons, faery, phoenixes, and many others considered 'mythical' walk the land step in step with humans and the magically inclined Kanyi race. While there is often racial wars starting up and dying across Cyrstara's history, Istaxire's shard of Crystara has been fairly quiet, with a mosly peaceful coexistence of humans and the magical races. Still, some tensions remain between enemy factions and races which have never seen eye to eye, and the ever-present political gunning.

Personality: Ist is a quiet individual, often on the skirts of social circles. While not liked nor dislike dby groups, he finds it easier to shift between them, as an almost natural behavior to simply not completely belong to any group. This serves an advantage, as Ist learns much about what's going on and knows how to stay clear of the worst of the dramatics that erupt, and also use the information to get what he wants. He's not above using what he knows to get the upper hand, or disengage himself from a problem or potential fight.

Outside the social drama of his ending days of school, Ist enjoys exploring and generally being alone, observing the world around him rather then connecting into it so much. He finds himself apart from everything, not quite natural in the setting he's in. Howeve,r he accepts that perhaps he was a dscendant from something else, a visitor to the world, and that explains it, as many planeswalking races have come and gone through Crystara, and knows well enough that his 'father' is not related by blood.

This disassociation from what is around him allows him a keen eye in observation of the world around him. While not cynical, he does have a certain pessimism about people after watching the sopcial interactions of many. He stays in the loop however to keep himself informed and to use this to his advantage. He has neither enemies nor friends, simply aqaintances who keep him around for his occasional wit and humor, and his ability to find out things. He enjoys the thrill of 'the game' as he's come to call it, the playing and toying with the dynamics and social structiures that exist.

Beliefs: Ist believes that people are selfish and greedy, always looking out for themselves. Those who try to be above these things are simply trying to hide their own faults, and he's mroe then willing to remind them of those faults. His concept of morals is ambiguous, and sometimes shifting to fit the situation - after all, you can't work two sides without agreeing to both at some point. He belives that the only way to survive is to take advantage of others, using their flaws to get ahead and keep alive. Stability is an illusion easily shattered, and best discarded before it kicks you to the ground. While he has no qualms about mos tdirty work, he doesn't feel compelled to strike a woman - partly due to being taught a certain amount of respect or the fairier sex by his father. Still, they're fair game if they swing first. He does not, however, like physical fights, being that he's not exactly built for them. He prefers playign thgins by the shadows and out of sight.

Likes: Mindgames, random trivia and facts, keeping out of sight, good food, pranking others as payback, revenge, getting out of trouble.
Dislikes: Fights, demands to do things/expectations, attention focused on him, rumors about him, goody-two shoes who think they're holier then thou ...

Habits:
- Tends to never be still, always looking around and trying to keep aware of his surroundings.
- Tends to fiddle with small objects, almost like a nervous habit.
- Sarcastic and rude to any who look down on him for some reason.
- Tends to laze around rather then get thigns done until the last minute.

Loki's Guardian [Lost Child]

Name: Rex Clark
Age: Appears in his 20's, is actually in his 40's.
Gender: Male
Height: 6'2"
Weight: Lighter then expected for his build, which si fairly well-built.

Complexion: Very pale, bit not completley ghostly or greyed.
Eyes: Emerald
Hair: Jet Black

Personality: Rex is a very striaghtforward, serious sort of person most of the time, but not without a sense of humor. He tends to view obligations and commitments as serious, and tries his hardest to make sure he keeps them all without fail.

Istaxire's Arrival into his life: Rex pretty much was given the child unexpectedly one day, and told to take care of him well. There was not much explaination at all, other then to care for the child as his own. While the option to pass him on to another had been available - he had a sister he could have asked - he kept his commitment to the stranger and raised Istaxire as his own child. He occasionally asked his sister Tiffany for advice on caring, but did most lal the rearing of Ist himself, a child he never had.

Beliefs: Rex believes that all thgins happen for a reason, and deals with everything in a logical manner. He tends to keep his cool under pressures and problems, hiding his emotions well when needed. He's been more fo the pillar of support in his family where his father failed them, being the oldest of three children. He's not too fond of his younger brother, but is thankful for his younger sister's devotion and adoration of him and helping to care for Ist when he's been forced out or away. He prefers to keep out fo the major political drama but has been known to get involed in keeping the peace in his area where he lives, mostly to keep Ist safe. If he makes a promise, he tries to keep it, believing one's word is the most important thing anyone can have.

//. Appearance and Powers

Potential Appearance

Hair: Dark brown, short - kept to about 2-3 inches tops in length all over, slightly ruffled.
Eyes: Sky blue.
Skin: Average - neither pale, nor tanned.
Build: Lean, almost wiry. He is far from muscular, as his strengths are in his mind more then his muscle.
Clothing: Casual wear in reddish oranges, reds, and black. Occasionally wears romani style shades, often has a few jeweled bracelets on that are still manly (thickish, adored with red and orange gems set in gold).
Special features: None. :O

Potential Powers

There's only one real power I see him having out of the two or so listed. I will detail it's limitations out, so pelase read it through before spazzing or anything. ;o

Shapechange - Loki's sole ability is the ability to change forms into any other living thing - however he cannot change into specific individuals. He cannot clone others - he can only become someone/something 'general' - such as a human, an elf, a hawk, a salmon, etc. He cannot become someone already in existence - while similarities are possible, he cannot duplicate anyone, including voice, to a perfect T. This ability is used most often to either disguise himself as anyone other then him to belnd into a crowd or decieve others, or become a type of animal in order to accomplish some task. When taking the form of an animal, he is able to perform all the basic necessary tasks - swim, flight, walk, etc. - enough to get him by. He cannot understand otehr animals when changed forms - he merely looks like one, and sounds like one. Whatever non-living items are on him merge into the form - and reappear when he resumes normal form. While back in the day he used to be ab le to maintain forms for days or longer, he is limited now - he c an only spend a few hours, max, as any one other form before needing to revert to his normal self - the effort in maintaining a form is stilll very taxing on him. The power awakened around when he became a teen, so he's still learning it's limits - and still trying to learn to 'blend in' better with behaviors and such. He can only change when he wills it, and it takes at least 1 minute to change - sometimes logner depending on the difference in size/mass compared to his normal form.

//. Assorted Yammerings + Min's Notes to Self

What I probably need to refine to clarify is a lot fo how I see Loki reborn, as I don't see him just being HOMG nice and good. Even not knowing his roots, he's GOING to retain those old traits and habits he held long ago.

+ He's going to be a schemer - he will use anything and everything to an advantage if he can/has to. He will always try to come out of situations smelling like a rose and looking innocent if he can help it.

+ Loki is not exactly a compulsive liar, but he DOES tend to bend the truths to his needs a lot. Whte lie types - he simply finds it difficult to just blurt out what really is ... partly because if he did, he'd be in more trouble.

+ He enjoys a good prank, usually non-malicious ones. However, he has moments where he DOES tend to be a little more... harsh, cruel or whatnot. But almost never without provocations. But he enjoys pulling little thign son others, just to get reactions. Partly, too, to see how they react and behave. If caught, he will try to worm his way out of the other being angry, sometimes including litlte gifts which mean nothing to him.

+ Totally a bragging type - if he feels he can boast about some feat to make himself look better, he will. Unfortunately, he often times speaks non-truths, and is lft in a situation to try and actually DO it.

To me, I see him looking like a totally plain person - he's not going to have anything visually remarkable about him, not super tall (or too short). I have NO damned clue what color hair to give him - part says black, part says brown, and part says blonde. Although I COULD go random as hell and say GREEN. Why? Reborn in a world where it ca happen, and uh... Loki's never been the completely sanest one of the batch. That rebirth magic stuff cna do odd things. As we can tell, Min doesn't give much thought to appearance details since there isn't MUCH you say about him.

Notes to self to eval better:

+ Loki's motivational reason for rebirth/reasoning?
+ WTF was Loki thinking over thigns that happened?
+ Why did it go wrong? (linke dot above maybe?)
+ Loki's potential power(s) ... (minor but needs consideration)
+ Potential path contemplations?
+ Evaluate certain key parts of the backstory?

+ Review backstory and turn into a more coherent story then it is. And pull mythos together better.

//. Crystaran Culture

Crystara's culture is heavily steeped in magic, although there ar enon-magical people residing in the world. At the moemnt the population is about 50-50 on that, although the magical races vary greatly - dragons, phoenixes, and other races walk in the form of humans to mingle with others as part of society.

Political Structure
Politics vary greatly by region, althoguh where Istaxire has grown up is Crystal City, where one President (althugh not placed by popular vote) rules the city, making decisions and looking out for what's best for those living there. Politics run heavy here, with many people jockeying and fighting for a place in the power tree and vying to be the most powerful. Backstabbing and scams seem frequent in the belly of the political beast, but there are still soem fair and honest ones in there fighting to remove the corruption. Even outside the city politics it seems as though there is a constant fight to be on-top, to be better then others. Social placement reins high, and it's in this climate Istaxire finds himself at home in the realm of trickery and deception.

The Racial Rift
Unfortunately, many millenia back in Crystara's history a rift between the magical race Kanyi, and the nromal humans erupted - one of the Kanyi completely lost it, and their power rampage killed amny innocent humans (and Kanyi) alike before the chaos was put to an end. Since then, distrust has always been around between the two - with human extremists often trying to eradicate the Kanyi. Kanyi take this with grace, mostly, but some rogues help continue the fear and hatred by countering. Other magical races sometimes suffer in the wake of such fighting - being accused of being what they are not, and caught in the crossfires of the war. Even among the Kanyi, a racial divide exists ebtween various kinds, causing even more inner turmoil without the human's help in making more hell. This naturla distrust and open accusations have also helped shape much of what Istaxire's life has been, hearing and seeing first-hand some of vicious verbal fights - sometimes turning physical - that have erupted even in school.
