A Little Help

Sonii glanced over at Tyler as she tried to soothe the firebird. Shaking her head, she frowned as she patted it.

"I don't know what to do, Tyler. It's injured, but the potion we have isn't working. I think that we need fresher jack in the pulpit... I think. Not sure." she said after thinking silently for a moment. "What should we do? A few blossoms that someone goes and finds for us?"

"The fresher, the better." he frowned. "I should go talk to Puck. He would know."

The bird lay on its side in the mossy nest she had made for it. Though it was an adult, it didn't look very old. Its feathers were slightly askew as if it had been attacked by something though there was no evidence of injury other than small puncture wounds very closely together.

"It looks almost like something managed to bite the poor thing." Sonii shook her head, patting the feathers as the bird shuddered lightly.

"Yeah." Tyler answered with a slightly anxious air, unusual for him "that could mean alot of trouble though, if she could tell us where she got hurt, we'd know if we were safe here or not."

Sonii shook her head. "I don't think she can, Tyler. She's too sick. She's really hot. I'm pretty sure she was poisoned by something. We need the flowers fast so we can make more potion for her. She won't last long at this rate. Especially when we don't know what has poisoned her. Better go see Puck now."

He grumbled "Firebirds are supposed to be hot, Sonii." But he went, and returned quickly with the riddle given to him by the trickster:

Be it wood, or be it marsh
either way, the path be harsh
petaled flowers on the sly
enable wounded things to fly

He grumbled "I hate when he makes things even more difficult."

Someone needs to find jack in the pulpit blossoms in the woods or marsh. Will you help heal the firebird of the poison? You will have to search everywhere you can to find these plants. They are rare living beneath other plants and bushes in the shade. They are no more than 5-6 inches high. There are dangers so be careful what you choose to do.

You may jump into the thread randomly, but the story quest will NOT be halted because you are absent. If you are gone and need to figure out where things are, read it to catch up. Also, problems will be added randomly as well as items. You may very well have to backtrack through the posts to find something or other. It is a part of the quest, but those points will be considered plot points and will be explained. Above all, have fun. That is what this is all about. smile

All got pulpits.

An owl appered over the horizan. "Heard help you need whoo whoo," he said. "Name Everett."

"Yes...whoo whoo...glad to be of assistance," Everett said. He landed on a branch and waited.

I am Edana, and I will help. I am young but smart.

Cheal galloped into the clearing. Despite his cumbersome looking body, he moved swiftly and barely disturbed anything in his path.

The magnificent unicorn stopped near the others and it appeared as if he was not going to speak. A few moments passed before a deep but gentle voice rumbled "I also heard your call and am here to offer my assistance."

Sonii glanced around at all the help and smiled.

"Thank you all. What we are looking for is a jack-in-the-pulpit flower. It may take more than one. We are not sure how else to cure the poor thing of poison." she explained as she dripped more water onto the beak of the firebird. The creature shivered slightly as the fever within it rose a bit higher. Its feathers were already changing slightly in color to a more faded and ill tint.

"The flower grows back under things in the shade. There are some in the wood, but we aren't exactly sure where. And they only grow about sooo high.." She indicated a span of about five to six inches tall. "They will not be easy to find. Look for... trilliums. Many times they grow beneath them."

She looked up at them for a moment more. There was one way out of the glade they were in, but not too far outside was a fork. And each one separated into even more beyond that point. They'd have to split up into two groups and then separate even more later. Some might even have to possibly backtrack until the blossoms were found. Dangers lurked as well, but they needed the flower to help the firebird.

"Just remember that there are dangers out there and you will have to be mindful of them as you hunt for the flower. And you may have to split into smaller groups as you go. But search everywhere you think the plant could be." Sonii said softly, not knowing if Tyler had anything to add.

The Iguion trolliped through the area and happened to over hear the conversation that they were having. Though Incapable to speak he could still understand what they were saying and it didn't seem like things were going too well. He galloped over to the group and took his paw drawing things in the dirt. Since he was not able to communicate through voice he had discovered another way to get his point across. When he was finished there was a message in the dirt saying that he would help if they would allow him to.

Chael shook his head around and snorted. "We can start off together then, and break up as needed. Owl, will you lead us and warn of danger until such time that we split up?"
