Got one word for you. Pilot.

A machine can be a GM or Ide......bad example.

You can fly the Zaku or you can fly the Gundam. If the pilot is poor, the machine is poor.

Didja see Fa Yuiry in Zeta Gundam? Did you see her in Super Robot Wars?

I think that makes my case very nicely.

As for weapons, I like the generic balance of usual armaments. Ya know, energy swords, beam rifles, machine guns, the whole works. Maybe a special weapon (Fin Funnels, Hi Mega Launcher, Buster Launcher).

My Supers...............I think the Grungust says it best. Flying fists! Gotta have at least one. Big chest mounted blasters are cool, and you need a big bad finisher after using the basics, like a big sword that all the Gusts have. Y'wanna know something though? I'm waiting for the day when Banpresto says that Irum's been holding Grungust back all this time and lets him have the Grungust Beam (See SRW4) as an unlockable weapon or something.

Design is important! Gotta have a machine that looks cool! Personally, I like the Wild Raubtier and the Gespenst Mk II M class. Such a shame the Raubtier gets the boot after one game..........I'd like to see it again, though maybe with some head vulcans instead of the tackle.

I think a design should be distinctive or not at all.

Some of my favorite designs are these fantastic robots that can not exist in reality. They are just as much of a character in the show as the pilots. Hell, some robots like Giant Robo, Dendoh, Dancougar, and Daimos all actually show some emotion on their faces to boot.

Then again other designs I like really have nothing unique about them at all. Gasaraki's Tactical Armors, Patlabor's Labors, and Nadesico's Aestivalis all have their little differences (and in the case of labors and aestivalis their own specialized armor), but for the most part they are all the same sleek mass-produced unit.

I think people are also attracted to what they haven't really seen before. Eva's concepts may all be mugged from other sources but as much as I hate to admit it the designs were fairly unique. The Zaku models outsold the Gundam for years and I think it was because the Zaku was a fairly unique design while the Gundam looked like Daitarn 3's b*****d albino child.

Okay... I really have no clue what makes a good design.

Everyone finds different things appealling. That is what it all comes down to at the end of the day. confused

I tend to like Reals actually. Which most of the people here already know. o.o But I find it rather ironic.. Here I am, the only pure Japanse person around, more likely, or atleast of those that I know, who doesn't really show much Japanese side at all. o_o; No Oriental furniture in my Gaia Home.. except maybe the Bonsai, but that's because it's a bonsai.. x_x I like plants.. All of my styles tend to be... away from anything Japanese related.. Atleast those stereotypical, traditional Japanese stuff that you'd see in old.. Japanese... ..... Stuff.. o.o;

... Yeah. I kinda like a sharp look on mechs.. Nothing too rounded, nor bulky. A good camoflauge color combination helps make it look nice, of course.. And of course, the mech's abilities in combat. No matter how good a unit may be, if it's useless in combat, all it is is a giant toy model. @_@ But that's just beyond obvious for a mech to be "Bad a**".

Putting it simple, a Bad a** mech would be...

Any Compact Death. @_@ Atleast with my definition of "Bad a**", if it can cause mass destruction, it's bad a** enough.

It's ability to rain death and destruction upon the heads of the doomed, is a good indicator. Great detailing and design can only get you so far. The SDF1 for instance was very blocky, but god almighty the gun it had!

Charecters, definitly the charecter if the series takes time away from mecha action and uses it to develop charecters and not jump into things right away. Which was why I enjoyed Full Metal Panic so much.

Mechas of course, a mecha has to powerful but not too powerful. This was a HUGE turn off from Wing for me, to me anything has to have a weakness or a way for it to be destroyed in order for it to be appealing.

Asplosions. heart

But design-wise, I tend to either like sleek, non-blocky designs (Weissritter, Raideen, Dunbine) or bulked-up, unusual-looking designs (Nightengale, Baund Doc, Gunbuster). Unique weapons (Nu Gundam's fin funnels, God Gundam's Burning Finger and that "halo" thing on its back, Combattler V's Choudenji Yo-Yos) score big points with me too.

The main reason I like mecha, though, is the awesome battles and explosions and weapons. heart

A great mech's gotta have:
a rockin' theme song
a kick-a**, colourful paint job
imaginative weapon systems
lights and sound

battle damage is a plus. I love watching mechs take a beating and keep on ticking.
cheap explosions and lack of damage turns me off.

I think a good mech has to be sleek, has firepower, transformable and can out perform most of the enemies forces with ease.
Course there are various mechs wich fit those requirements.

Got one word for you. Pilot.

I agree right there. No matter how "pimped up" the mecha is it's just a piece of scrap metal if no pilot is in it. AI's only work to a limit but a human pilot is more alert and ready for battle. Not sure if I copyed this quote from some where but I hope I really did make it up: A super robot is only considered to be strong when it has a strong pilot. One who is pure of heart, skilled in the art of fighting, knowlageable with the advance technology. With a great pilot, the mecha will be unstoppable!"

Which is why Gundam Wing is anything BUT mediocore in my eyes...the pilots just abuse one fact after another IE: Quatra relied too heavily on everyone else, and the Maganac Corps. Heero abused the Beam rifle a little too much, and Duo abused the cloaking field. Lets not mention the soliders didn't put up a fight at all...why people consider killing Cannon Fodder the coolest, will always baffle me...
I know I heard this quote somewhere, but can't remember where, but the victor isn't the one with the best equipment, but who can use it better. Take full Metal Panic for example: Sosuke's Armslave was missing a leg, but he managed to take out two others single handedly, both of them Armed.
