Jini let out a contented sigh as he gazed out at the waters of the pool before him. It was a beautiful day in his homeland, for the sun was bright and only mildly warm. There was a nice, gentle breeze too and the sky was blue and dotted with fluffy white clouds. Yes...a really beautiful day. For the first time in a while he had chosen to relax, instead of forcing himself to strenghten his nerves by leaving the pridelands or walking along its borders. And he was extremely glad of his decision, for he was enjoying the peace and quite. There was only so much nervousness a guy could take before he got tired, after all.

With a soft smile, a cute and warm expression rarely shown due to his shy nature, he rested his head on his paws and watched the fish circle in the water before him. It was an old passtime in his cubhood and apparently the affection for it hadn't faded.

The mostly white cub was happily curled up somewhere, she had not been around these lands long but it was her home now. Her mother had been here, lived here, and previous litters here so to Mchanga this was what home was and would always be. Or at least, for now.

Her light blue eyes looked around as she licked her small paws. Timid and naive this youngster was strange. She didn't understand life, a little like a sister she had met briefly use to be. Hopefully she would not follow in the footsteps however. She had a whole life ahead of her... if she could ever get over her mothers death.

Jini was...oblivious to everything around him. He wasn't the most alert of lions. In fact, he was rather bad when it came to noticing things physically. It seemed with emotions he had an attena on his head or something but...when it came to knowing others were about he was practically deft. So it was no wonder he continued to sit there, gazing at the sparkle of fins instead of noticing a cub nearby or its scent drifting along the wind. Warrior or hunter he was not.

The youngster spotted the lion after seeing him once and for some reason dismissed him as a tree, she was not one of the most intelligant lionesses that was for sure.

She stood up and carefully walked a little closer though she would not go upto him, she was afraid of strangers, always afraid, strangers killed her mother, strangers were bad. She just watched him, wondering why she believed that he was a tree.

As a bit of water splashed in his face from a frog's jump Jini tilted his head slightly. In that moment he saw something from the corner of his head. He blinked in surprise and whipped his head around. There he saw a little cub, looking at him with confusion and...was it fear? He felt his stomach drop and nervousness shot into his body. So much for relaxing. Afraid he'd startle her he became still like a statue, looking worried, "Ah-H-hello there..."

From the way he froze she suddenly thought he was a weird like tree again.

"h...h...hello" She squeaked the end of the hello. She was scared but then he looked kind of scared so maybe he was ok? She didn't move, just watched him. She was curious and slightly scared.

Jini's ears flattened at her fear. He loved kids, even if he still felt like an idoit around them, and it tore him up instead to think he was scaring one. He hated the idea of hurting anyone, physically or emotionally, let alone a cub! He shifted his paws and ducked his head sheepishly, offering a weak, dorky smile, "I-I'm sorry...I didn't mean to scare you....h-honest...." He swallowed, "Are you...ok?"

His fear or maybe it was just how he spoke, either way it made her feel better. She got up and walked over to him, still a little timid she sat right infront of him, looking up at him, the "tree".

"I am ok thank you. Who are you?" She looked slightly surious, he had the golden orange like colour she was afraid of but she had to have some guts!

Jini felt a little bit of relief touch his heart. She wasn't running away or anything, that was good. Though still nervous and hoping not to scare her he felt on edge and his nerves quivered. "Ah, I'm Jini!" He said with a small smile, closing his eyes in the process. His posture remained apollogetic and shy. It was actually rather odd to see, since he was so much bigger then her and all. But he was sincerely concerned about upsetting her. It was just something too easy to feel for someone as sensative as he.

"I am Mchanga." She looked up at him curiously and decided she liked him. He was a good tree, he gave lots of shade!

"Would you be my friend?" She tilted her head slightly, her eyes looking up at his. He was a cool tree, yeah the idea of him being a tree wasn't leaving her mind right now.

Jini looked a little surprised but...couldn't help but feel his nervousness slip away. His heart was touched and he took heart from it. He offered a gentle, genuine smile, "Sure. I'd love to." He had no idea she thought he was a tree but...in reality, he probably wouldn't have minded. Let he think what she wanted. As long as she was happy life was good, ne? That was his attitude to all those he met.

Mchanga smiled, "Yay my tree friend!" She chuckled happily at herself, thinking aloud. She had a friend! She had a friend!!! She was happy, she managed to make a friend. This was a huge achievment for this little girl.

"Why you so big?" Yep, now was the time for strange questions.

Jini paused. Tree...friend? Did he really look like a ...tree? Somehow it seemed extremely unflattering to be thought of as such. But...he didn't think she knew any better. She was so little...it was probably a game. Might as well play along...right? No need to squash a little one's dreams or anything. "Ah..." He smiled sheepishly, "Well all trees get big. Everything does eventually. Well...almost everything. You'll get big someday too, you know."

"Am I going to be a tree to one day?" She tilted her head looking at him, his eyes looked tree like and he was big but didn't look like her father... maybe he was a rare talking tree!! Yes a talking tree, the rare type!

"Well...no..." Jini said, feelinga little uncertain how to respond. He had never had anyone ask him such a strange question before. He felt a compassion for the parents, who most likely had such questions every hour of every day. Keeping this in mind he had to smile, though he shook his head a little, "No...if you're not a tree you can't become one. But you'll still grow up big. Growing up to be a pretty lioness would be more fun then being a tree, I would think."
