This is the official Dio thread. All talk about Dio must take place in this thread.

The first time I played Iron Maiden for my dad he thought it was Dio singing. At the time I had never heard of Dio but I thought that if they sounded like Maiden they must be good. So I corrected my dad, told him who the singer was and then went out and got a Dio cd. I was amazed. They are without a doubt one of the best American metal bands.

Which do you prefer? Dio when he was just 'Dio' or when he was with Black Sabbath?

I myself must say when he was just 'Dio'.

Rainbow was great! But I'd have to say, I really do love Dio's solo career. Vivian Campbell kicks so much a** on guitar! And Dio's voice is fantastic. I actually just got done listening to "I Speed at Night" surprised 3nodding

I'm a massively obsessed Dio fan. I've got all ten of Dio's full-length albums, and Heaven and Hell by Black Sabbath. Dio-era Sabbath is by far my favorite so far, and Dio is just amazing. For my senior picture, I did the double evil-eye pose, just to pay homage to a true metal god. THE MAN IS SIXTY-FOUR YEARS OLD, FOR CRYING OUT LOUD!!!

My brother was the one who got me into Dio. He was a huge Dio fan, and I borrowed his album The Very Beast of Dio, and then went out and bought Holy Diver. I was more of a casual Dio listener at that point, but once I got Master of the Moon, I was officially hooked.

You can imagine how happy I am that I have Sacred Heart on Vinyl, and how jealous I am that my brother owns The Last in Line on vinyl. I have Holy Diver, The Last in Line, and Dream Evil on cassette as well, in addition to having everything by Dio on CD also.

Dio owns your souls(together with Freddie Mercury, Bruce Dickinson, Steve Harris and Kai Hansen). I've not heard much of his work with Sabbath, but I've heard 4 of his solo career albums and I must say it's all truly amazing, and even though I've not heard much of him and Sabbath, I dare to say his work with them is way better than Ozzy's could ever dream of being. Last in Line and Holy Diver are ******** amazing.

^^Quoted for Truth^^

You would cream yourself if you heard Heaven and Hell. It's by far my favorite of anything that Sabbath has done with any singer. Not a weak song on the entire album, and the title track, at 6:56, is the ultimate Heavy Metal song (yes, Dio-era Sabbath is Heavy Metal, while Ozzy is Doom) that any self-respecting metal fan would be better off dead than not liking it. The songwriting on that and Mob Rules is impeccable, as well. Dio's skills at the pen are better than Ozzy's x987685786578968697643665876643 3nodding

I liked it when it was "Black Sabath," because the early Black Sabath was Black Metal. xp

Actually, no. Ozzy-era Sabbath is Doom metal. there is a difference between Black and Doom Metal. Doom metal is a much slower version of Heavy Metal, with more emphasis on the basswork. Other bands of this genre include Candlemass, St. Vitus, and Pentagram.

Venom was the pioneer of Black Metal, from which the name was coined with the song "Black Metal." Then Mayhem was formed, and the second wave of Black Metal was introduced.

Just a little lesson in music biggrin

It's still atmosphere-ish, and depressing like Black Metal isn;t it? question

But Doom has a very atmospheric and depressing feel to it as well (hence the name "Doom"). I can see where you're coming from, but one of the biggest differences is the fact that most black metal songs are at regular or faster tempo, a lot of Sabbath songs are just really slowed down. I'm not 100% sure about the absolute difference, but i do know there is a difference 3nodding

OK, black metal is a pure assault on the ears of speed, screeching vocals, and "Pure ******** Armeggedon". Doom is slow, gloomy, and dark. They are complete opposites really. Doom vocals are more like Ozzy's, and Black Metal, is, well, This.
