Hope it's alright to make a new thread here, I didn't see anything against it, or one of this kind before this...
I do vocals as a main thing, but also a little bit of guitar. Been doing vocals for 4 different bands now, over the course of 4 years. I have only one (crappy) clip of it action, so feel free to request a link to it. I use yousendit.com to share things, and it expires so I won't bother with a link just yet.
Any other vocalists in here??

Necrohazard used to do vocals in a band. I sing a bit while playing guitar, but I'm not in a band.
There are a few other members who do vocals, but they don't come here as regularly.
Send us a link whenever you get the chance. 3nodding

theres a few threads with some good tips in them in both the metal forum and the musicians' forums (the public ones, not ours), so you could try to find those, or just wait for a response here... your choice.
what are you going for? black, death, power - what?
I do death (crappy), black, and clean. Much like Christian Alvestam, so i coulnd't help with anything but those three.

well, singing and screaming in general. I'll most likely do death metal if my boyfriend forms a band though.... he probably wont.... but just in case...

gakihime well, singing and screaming in general. I'll most likely do death metal if my boyfriend forms a band though.... he probably wont.... but just in case... well id say clean vocals is just something that develops through practice ... idk what to tell you with clean, but for death, theres plenty of tips floating around. obviously you need to relax your throat, and everything else for shows. as i explained in the public forum, if you screw one thing up during a show, no matter how small it is, it can (absolutely not always... its just a small possibility) throw the whole show off just from chain reactions (ie: someone in the crowd notices you mess up a little or get fidgedy/nervous, so they laugh or do something distracting or rude, the drummer notices and skips a beat or something, more of the crowd notices, and then the guitarist notices, etc...) - so relax everything. open up your throat, obviously, and scream/sing/whatever you wanna call it with your diaphram - NOT YOUR THROAT! something other people suggest, but i never noticed a difference, is drinking some milk or eating honey before you do anything. it makes kind of a membrane, or film rather, sorta thing in your throat to help keep it from getting sore and coughing. Coughing on stage is embarrassing - dont do it! and last thing for now - if you really want to know what you sound like, plug one ear with a finger while you scream. sounds stupid, but youll be surprised. hope at least some of this was new, and helps, sorry if it was nothing new or helpful. good luck with things. smile

thanks. I will definately have to practice if he forms a band. For now, I'll just stick to composing and practicing my guitar.

A bit unnecessary, but we should keep these threads moving...
I just tried to do some vocal recordings today, since I just got my new mic. It's been a little over a year i think since i did any kind of screaming at all, and holy s**t I need to get back into practice cry . i sucked BAD today... So, no new recordings for a while, at least til I get back in the game. hopefully ill have my new guitar when im good and ready, so ill have new stuff with that too.

I hate that. Every time I take a break from playing guitar, it's like I've taken a step backwards.
Good luck dude.

milk actually hurts your performance a bit when it comes to screaming ive found because you hahve that extra mucus there and youre not strengthening your throat to withstand the normal wear and tear of screaming... ive always found lemon is good but only after it starts to hurt... i tore away at my throat when i first started doing hardcore/ metal vocals which i then supplemented by smoking more... and eating raw lemons.... then i quit smoking and i had the sound of the scream but not smoking let me build my lung capacity to hold it out longer...i am not condoning smoking*cough* cigarettes*cough*im just saying thats what did it for me
p.s. if you have a car... scream along to just about anything whenever you can.. its private and you can scream as loud as you want....
p.p.s try not to crash
