I stepped up onto the stageI was about to test my skill against one of the strongest people in the Academy. It was rumoured that she had achieved Shikai over four years ago and had graduated at the top of her class.
I wondered if I would win automatically, but decided that she would show up.

((srry I live on like another part of the world))
Okuni had arrived late. Running from the gate opposite of her opponent, she appeared to have woken up late. It was most likely from her practice routine from yesterday that made her so tired.
She slightly bowed, "I'm sorry for keeping you waiting, please make our match-up an interesting one please," She said as she straightened up and walked to her side. Turning around she faced her opponent waiting for him to be ready as well.

"Hai," I bowed and removed coat folding it up neatly and placing it at the edge of the ring. I thought a moment just how I was going to battle her. I knew nothing of her almost just that she was talented. I bowed again once I resumed my space and assumed a slightly modified I-chuan stance, which he had recently during the tower had been training towards, he hadn't mastered the style, but he was getting there slowly. His modified stance meant that he was slightly more rigid in form and slightly more spread out almost a cross between the Hung Gar style Tiger Crane and the I-Chuan style.
"You are on time Nishiharu-sama," Kai used the honorific for the sheer fact that she was more trained than he was in the art of a Shinigami.

"You are very kind to say that, let's make this match up a very good alright Kai-kun?" Okuni warmly smiled as she adapted her stance as well, a low stance with her arms stretched out like a bird. Her left leg was stretched forward as the other one was to support her back.
The phoenix martial arts, a rare and exotic style she was taught by her father and members of the Nishiharu clan whom had created the style some millenia ago. She had learned that not to see what the opponent was going to do, but rather see what they do. She winked lightly at him as she waited for him to make the opening move. Her ways of fighting were gentle and caring, it was almost as if she would let her opponent win.

I looked up, I didn't like making the first move, thus I was going to treat her as a Hollow in this instance, a clever hollow. I transferred my Reiatsu around my body focusing it in my ankles, if she wanted a fight, then she would get one, though I wanted to see if she could spot the opening in this move.
I seemed to slid through the air forwards for about an inch before disappearing from common sight appearing again just to the right side of Nishiharu before committing myself to a clockwise sweep.
"Let's see how she copes," I thought in my usual monotone uncaring voice.

Okuni was smart to have leapt up in the air as soon as Kai performed his sweep as if it where just natural. As she leapt up, he performed several kicks that were aimed at his chest as a phoenix would utilize it's talons to tear up it's prey. Her mind was already telling her how to react and perform her counter, but for now it was planning something light-medium in terms of her level. She may not be adaptive to using her zanpaktou too often, but she was a genius when it came to hand to hand combat.
After this she landed and rushed forward aiming a barrage of precise chops and projected stabs at his shoulders. She meant to keep this as interesting as possible. After performing the barrage of attacks, was aiming a very powerful blade kick to his lower chest...
"Suzaku...Fire Arrow!" She said as her foot was imbued with fire with her chi energy as it had had been pulled back and sprung out the blade kick.

Immediately, I was finding this challenging, she had been kicking backwards in the air as she leapt up, turning and spinning in order to kick me, it had been a stroke of luck that I had fainted out of the way and rolled up. Then she had come at me again and I had barely regained my stance, this girl was fast and I was concentrating on using various blocking measures with just the tips of my fingers, a form of Koppojutsu which was pretty precise and involved attacking the enemie's nerve system and muscles directly.
Her style reminded me a little of a style had met before, it seemed a combonation between an extremely fast Kung fu style and Tai chi with the way she was moving at the moment.
It was then that the stabs came in and he was thrown back slightly by one of them, the girl though had carried on coming.
"This girl doesn't give up," I thought, "Good." With that I swept up.
"Hmph," I murmured. I had seen this kick before, performed various times during the combat sequence back in the tower. This was more basic than he expected but still...
I dropped my elbow down into the fibula bone, the larger of the two bones in the lower leg an intercepting strike which are commonly used in Kosshijutsu due to it's high probability of breaking the bone. It was still only a 40% chance.
Yet I didn't expect the kick to be imbued with fire energy and pain soared straight up my arm as if its own counter attack, yet I remained still letting the attack flow through me and straight into the ground below. The ground shook and dust moved out of the way.
Then I took my move and punched forwards with my right arm (presuming you attacked my left). I carried on deciding that I should pressure her right back sweeping straight into the opening with that punch straight to her stomach and then moving into a more constant combo and aimed for her lower legs attacking as I stepped forwards constantly moving faster and faster. Her speed was incredible quite strong for what I had originally anticipated.
Then I got my hands involved some more and instead of using fists like my first strike, I was aiming for her limbs with my fingers, and her muscles trying to hit the nerve points and the natural weaknesses in her body armour.
Then as I finally wore off on the attack, I blasted forwards sending Reiatsu into a palm strike straight to her chest.
(damn you're good at this)

((thanks its the result of being the only girl in an all boy family that takes actual martial arts since 1st grad.))
Okuni had taken the counter very well, as she viewed that her kick was met head on, she shifted her balance slightly to avoid the breaking of her leg bone, and avoid his blows as well. But seeing as this was done, she left herself open to Kai'a attacks.
Seeing as how he was know forcing her back, she had now been able to excute several styles of relaxed and dance movements to avoid the punch precisely aimed at her stomach, as she turned her body to move out of the way of the punches aimed towards her.
Seeing as how he was now aiming at her legs, she had no choice but to use her knees to block, nearly losing much of her balance she was now almost in a dance and ballerina form she had used to avoid several of the blows from Kai's fingers aimed at her, but most of them hitting unsure areas that wouldn't effect her in any way. She then had almost naturally followed with Kai's style of strategy down all the way to his speed, as she had now once again deflected his palm strike with a capeoira like spin of her upper body as it parried off her shoulder. She was now beginning to use real speed, and taking information as Kai was excuting his attack
Opening her next style of strategy was next, she would try a three-way style attack all in reiteration at once. It would involve the movement of her using his still in momentum from the palm strike. She first pulled his arm forward adding to his momentum to keep him from going forward and not being able to move anywhere else at this point. "Suzaku...Swoop of the Sun!" Okuni spoke as she executed the three way style attack.
As Kai would go forward she faked a punch to him and used his outstretched arm to be used as a swing to allow her to go under his attack her right hand holding his forearm out as she swung under his ongoing palm strike as she came up behind him and raised her elbow high in the air. As her elbow now imbued itself with fire, bringing her elbow down to meet with his head. This to Okuni almost seemed as if it were planned out since the very beginning of the assault. From a simple fake-out to an undercarry, and to a first strike, it seemed too complex for anyone to really analyze the measurements of her fighting style.

I watched in between each blow that I made, I wasn't exactly being accurate, but at this stage that wasn't the point, faking an attack was something that was unusual and I hadn't expected.
What I had expected however was the rear attack and had already made his adjustments. The blow was coming down on my right and thus I leaned, gathering his Reiatsu, leaning forwards and slightly to the left twisting round moving not only my head, but my torso out of the way of the strike before turning back into the strike, to exploit an opening by moving my left arm around into a spear shape almost and going with full force straight to her stomach.
It was almost a simultaneous attack, letting her attack me, transferring the stored Reiatsu to my shoulder and letting contact be made and also driving forward with an attack stright to her abdomen. If she didn't pull back, she would be hit in between the muscles with the tips of my fingers, effectively winding her and leaving her open. Although of course, if she carried on, my should would be dislocated, and I would be forced to endure the pain for a moment before I could get the muscles to relax enough before I could pop it back in. Thus giving her time to get over her winding, the thing was, did she feel confident enough that she could beat me with one arm tied behind my back?

Okuni had taken Kai's blow to her stomach, but she only winced slightly, nothing short of an elbow attack to an open attack. But, to her surprise catching his elbow before it could pull back would completely catch him off. She had seemed to notice that his idea about choosing between the blow to her stomach or the choice to dislocate his shoulder.
Taking the elbow and pulling back she had turned it into an Izuna drop and a cross between a falling tower pull. As she grabbed him by the forehead with her left hand as well, she slammed his head straight to the floor with the back side hitting with the Falling Tower style take-down. With that she would perform a somersault over him with one right foot slamming into his chest and finishing the somersault in front of his feet.
She had now straightened up and patted herself off a slight school-girlish twist. She lightly smiled, "I guess hand to hand wasn't as much fun as I thought it was," She spoke lightly.
"You shouldn't worry about dislocating your shoulder or such for hitting me, things like that belong in a war, not a battle, where ever you aim to go in the squads, it's not about what your opponent is going to do, but what that person is doing..." Okuni said as a moment of insight to spread to him. She was a pure genius in combat, and a fairly ranked shinigami, but she seemed to not care about her place in the squads, she seemed to like adapting to wherever she was sent.
"I guess I should surrender," Okuni said as she raised her arm to confirm that she was forfeiting.
"I Okuni Nishiharu officially surrender my chance to earn a place in 1st squad," She said throwing her arm down.

"Exactly," I said but I hadn't even earned this place, and it had been slightly odd, as I remembered my defensive maneuvres.
"Yang," Kai held up his hand slightly, and it was in that split second that his Reiatsu gathered and exploded from his Zanpakuto's sheath. Using this he had punched her arm off him before it had actually touched him, but fainted the fall, only to catch her foot as it tried to drive into his chest and flipping it back around so that she could finish her somersault.
"You surrender," I said, "Then there is no longer a reason for me to fight." He had been slightly disappointed that he hadn't been able to lead her into another attack, her elbow grab had been an excellent choice, and neither of their attacks apart from their last ones had actually connected, "You have earned the place more than I have." I bowed deeply and retrieved my coat before walking away into the darkness it was true...i had much more training to do now.

"Well, guess it's off to see that bone head's match," Okuni smirked. She had walked off and kept it in a down to earth approach. It wasn't the best of matches, but it did her heart well to spread wisdom.
Taking the exit from at ger gate, she skipped off .
