Shoom~So. I think I'll stuck Dutch up there like Arrien suggested and leave it at that, because it's the best answer out there. Whee!

More detail and all that coming soon! When, you know, I'm not at work and not on a connection that's slower than dial up.

/*Introduction & ToC*/

Part 1: The Basics

1. What is your full name? James Erik Vanderdecken

2. Where and when were you born? My exact date of birth is unknown; the orphanage found me when I was an infant on August 3rd, 1988. It's located in New York City, New York.

3. Who are/were your parents? My father's name is Cameron Joseph Vanderdecken. He's a retired Navy pilot and currently works as a consultant for a technological firm. When I was growing up, I didn't see a lot of him, except on special occasions when he got leave from the military, so our relationship is sort of a distant and formal thing. I still don't see a lot of him, since the firm's in New York and we're up in Massachusets, so Dad's only really around on weekends.

Mom's name is Judy Marie Vanderdecken. I don't know what she did before meeting Dad, but she's a housewife now. I guess there was some sort of inheritance after Grandfather died, so she doesn't have to work. She's strict, but fair, and doesn't play favorites with us.

4. Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like? I have six siblings; one older sister, two younger sisters, and three younger brothers. Jessica, the oldest, is only older than me by about a month, so we get along about as well as can be expected - sometimes we do, and sometimes we don't. The younger kids are all younger than me and Jess by about 5 years, which means that Jess and I were pretty horrible to them when we were all younger, but now we kinda try and watch out for them.

5. Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people. I live with my family outside Boston, Massachusets in a medium size house that fits the whole family rather comfortably. It's large enough that only a couple of us have to share rooms, but small enough that we have to make a schedule for the bathrooms in the mornings.

6. What is your occupation? Student.

7. Write a full physical description of yourself. You might want to consider factors such as: height, weight, race, hair and eye color, style of dress, and any tattoos, scars, or distinguishing marks. I'm over 6 feet tall, weigh less than 160, so I've got that tall and lanky teenager look going on right now. Caucasion, and I don't tan, so I usually look rather pale. Black hair that never looks anything other than messy, and green eyes. I have a large nose, and I wish I didn't. Since I attend Catholic school, I wear a uniform most of the time during the week. After school and on weekends, I prefer to wear jeans, t-shirts, and maybe a jacket if the weather's cold. Plain t-shirts mostly, unless I can find one with a pithy phrase I like.

8. To which social class do you belong? Upper-middle.

9. Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses? I should probably get glasses or contacts, my far vision is starting to go a little blurry.

10. Are you right- or left-handed? Left handed.

11. What does your voice sound like? Very low. I sing in choir at school, and I am one of the three bass singers we have. I'm not very good at it, but I'm good enough to stay in the class. One of my youngest sibs said it sounded like thunder when I yelled.

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently? I say 'uh' and 'um' a lot when I'm nervous.

13. What do you have in your pockets? Lint, spare change, keys, my wallet, I think my cell phone, an iPod.

14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics? Jess says sometimes my eyes change colors.

Dressed in black, I'd go creepin'
While the normal folk are sleepin'
If I only were a Goth

notes:

james is catholic, result of a traumatic experience when he was younger. he was swimming, and while he was underwater, he saw the 'ghosts' of someone who had drowned at the beach several years earlier. Screaming, he almost drowned and now not only has a deep phobia of anything other than water used for bathing and cooking (and rain), he finds solace and comfort in his religion.

attends catholic school, only kid in the family to stay with it past the sixth grade. large family, 2 parents (mother is guardian, father is vanderdecken 'heir'), 7 siblings (four girls, three boys (3 of the girls and one of the other boys are also adopted), james is second oldest (adopted girl is older by a year). family is also catholic, but don't make a big deal out of it.

family lives in new england (MA, CT, or RI). father was in the air force, met mother (british) while stationed in england, married her and moved back to the states. mother's family used to be jewish 'fell out of the habit after WWII', she converted before marriage. james is close to all of his family members.

vanderdeckens/myth: after the captain found a suitable woman (for storyline purposes, in the mid 1800's; will have to look up specific dates) to marry, the ship was set out to sea to fall apart or what have you. by that time, however, the spirit of the figurehead (wiki article here) had fused with the ship and was unable to be freed. this spirit was now the ship, and cast a curse upon the vanderdecken descendants: they would always have bad luck upon the seas/with water. the captain drowned when he attempted to ply his old trade and his ship sank. james' paternal grandfather was in the navy during (vietnam? korea?) and was shot while trying to swim to safety.

by the time james comes around (he can end the curse, if he wishes), the family has largely forgotten the history of the clan, and only recognizes that they have horrible luck with water, but are inexplicably drawn towards it (hence living in NE). this only applies to blood descendants, obviously, and is usually manifested strongest in the males.

james has the ability to create banks of fog to hide himself in, and storms have a tendency to follow him around when he's moody. he can also see and interact with the spirits of those who died at sea, or were buried at sea. (BD, is that acceptable?) other than that, he's pretty damn normal.

for the lost children event: i assume he's going to be two, three years old? the earth he lives on is incredibly mundane, and magical growth is not an occurance. i explain that away by saying the time stream likes to maintain continuity, and it 'simulated' the years of his life that james skipped due to his nature as a fa'e. (so he was there approx. 16 years ago, skipped to age two, and so on and so forth up to current times).

forgot this: james either wants to be a priest, or a carpenter. he likes working with his hands, and one of his favorite classes in school is shop class. he's mediocre at it right now, but with practice, he could probably be very good. he's pretty shy, not because he's aloof or anything, but because he feels like he doesn't quite fit in, even among his family members. he often wonders why certain of his memories are fuzzy and vague, while others are sharper.

in the event that i lose the lost children event (likely) or get him as a 2nd gen fa'e (not likely), the vanderdecken family will not be his guardians; i have more sinister, NPC type plans for them. mwaha.

I think that's pretty much everything that's been floating around in my head - I just wanted to type this all out so it's here and I don't have to scrape around for it later. xD I will, of course, be formatting, editing, and adding to much of what's here. love you all~

With my hair up, I'd look fancy
Like Siouxsie and the Banshees
With silk or velvet cloth

Dressed in boots, never sandals
And the room would be lit with candles
If I only were a Goth

Would I like another clove? Well, sure
And after that, we'll go listen to The Cure

I'd pretend to be a vampire
Like in stories 'round the campfire
I'd suck your bloody froth

Yes the thing I'd be best at
Is impersonating Lestat
If I only were a Goth

Yes the world would be depressing
Over death I'd be obsessing

And this corpse that I'm undressing
Would be sexier, I'm guessing

With my diet I'd get scurvy
And I'd worship Peter Murphy
If I only were a Goth

No, the song has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with my Fa'e concept.

I've just had it stuck in my head for a few days.

THANKS FOR NOTHING INLE AND CEE WHO SENT THE SONG TO INLE.
