Original Spell: The spell was called "A Hardened Shell" and was meant to give the drinker of the potion a thicker skin, so they would not be as soft-hearted.
What went wrong: The warlock was so infuriated and flustered with life, that he simply threw the ingredients into his cauldron in a fury. This caused a miniature explosion which sent him through the binding circle and in turn, breaking the original intention of the spell.
