I'm currently reading the Dalai Lama's book, Ethics for the New Millennium, for the second time, and I am once again overcome with complete and total adoration for this man. My copy of this book is full of highlighter marks, underlined quotes, and random hearts placed beside my favorite passages.

Anyway, my question: What are your views on the Dalai Lama as far as a spiritual example goes? Is he the ultimate example of what all spirituality (of any religious assosciation) hopes to accomplish, even if we don't consciously realize it?

I think that even though many people I know don't recognize the Dalai Lama as any kind of example, the overwheming happiness he exibits is the ultimate reason religion was formed, and the goal of all religious/spiritual people.

I haven't gotten to studying these religious leaders yet, so I don't have much to say from an informed standpoint. I'd agree, though, that among the ultimate functions of religion is to establish at the least contentment if not happiness towards all things. I'll have to see if I can get ahold of a copy of this book at the local public library. After I finish with the ones I have checked out, that is... sweatdrop

Yeah, if ever there was an example of what spirituality can accomplish, it is the Dalai Lama. I've never heard of the book, though, but plan to read it as soon as I've finished devouring the other books I'm reading.
